  1. Nah, wouldn’t be historically accurate. BFC works very hard at keeping everything as accurate as possible for the given timeframe. In the case of CMBS, that would be 2014. The only thing that should be changed is the performance of the Russian Army. The UKR Army is actually pretty well modeled as they wouldn’t have adopted the NATO tactics yet.
  2. Sweden has applied for membership in NATO, but, as far as I know, has not yet been accepted. However, that also means that Sweden is not constrained by Article 5, so they might actually be able to do more than NATO at this point in time if the sabotage occurred on Swedish “territory” happened as in the NORD Stream pipelines.
  3. Nope, I tried a Soviet/Russian cigarette in Asia back in 1970 when I was in Fleet Marine Corp Pacific (FMFPac), scared the crap out of me. Those things could kill you!
  4. We might be looking at the 1930’s “Bitter Harvest” of 2023.
  5. In all of our “how did this happen,” let us not forget the largest and most important factor, RUSSIA BUILT IT!
  6. We create our own natural gas here in the U.S. We use “Boston Baked Beans” and “Pizza!”
  7. I thought that the Russian Charter or Constitution, or whatever it’s called, doesn’t allow conscripts to be used outside the country. Perhaps that’s why Putin illegally annexed the territories in Ukraine, to keep his mobilization “legal?”
  8. At this point in time, both parties are most concerned about the mid-term elections in November and control of the House of Representatives!
  9. Nope, wouldn’t work. U.S. Congress would just find some reason that they should be released into the general population.
  10. I understood Huba’s humor, but just wanted to point out that the Triple 7 is designed to be towed that way, which is why if you look at a 777, there’s what look like a flat tongue with a tow ring extending from the muzzle end of the barrel.
  11. The triple 7 is towed by the barrel. What isn’t shown is the connection to the towing vehicle which is at least two to three feet above the road surface.
  12. Finally! Someone who speaks proper Bostonian.
  13. Whatever their sins might be, the crew of that second crew, they have balls, and didn’t leave their mates behind. I have to respect that.
  14. Have to disagree. The plastic will retain the moisture from your sweat and will saturate your socks and make things much worse. You want materials that are permeable and let moisture escape. That include changing your socks. When we were in freezing conditions, I’d have my men remove their boots during a rest stop so I could inspect their feet for condition. Of course, that would mostly go by the wayside in combat situations. I seriously doubt many Russian NCOs have any interest in trying to take care of the men though.
  15. I live about 10-15 miles from the Atlantic in coastal New England (just north of Boston), and the ocean definitely keeps us warmer, in general, than areas just 50 miles farther west. The U.S./Canadian Great Lakes, are a much different climate. The prevailing winds in North America are from the west. That means they blow across the lakes, chilling the lakes and loading up with moisture that gets dumped as “lake effect” snow. We don’t get that effect on the coast unless the winds are from the north/north-east. my last Marine Reserve unit in western Massachusetts was part of the 4th Marine Brigade Rapid Deployment Force. Our mission was defense of northern Norway, so we spent 10 to 11 drill weekends training in the mountains no matter what the weather was like. That is how you train for cold weather operations.
  16. Well then, I stand corrected. Thank you. Now I guess that whether the earthen mound is a dam with a causeway on top of it (built to stop the water flow and create a reservoir) or a causeway (elevated road built to cross a low lying water feature). Isn’t the English language so fantastic to give us so many opportunities for discussions?
  17. Nope! A causeway is a passage from a mainland to an island. The island and the causeway are completely surrounded by water. An earthen dam is a dam made of earth, vs an earth-core dam or a concrete dam. Earthen dam is just more descriptive of the dam.
  18. The only reason they didn’t veto the UN forces in Korea, was because the resolution was presented and voted on after the Soviet Ambassador had left the room for some reason. The Soviet or Russian Ambassador has never let that occur again. I suspect the Ambassador has been told that he is to soil himself rather than ever leave the room again.
  19. Not surprising at all. During the U.S. /England War of 1812, when the U.S. residents of Calis (sp?), Maine, U.S.A. didn’t have gun powder to make fireworks for celebrating the U.S. Independence Day celebrations, so the residents of St. Johnsbury, New Brunswick, Canada gave them some of their stock. Obviously the residents of both didn’t let a little thing like a war between their nations screw up their relationship.
  20. Putin won’t got go to Beijing, he too afraid of getting CIVID 19.
  21. Sorry folks, try as I might I can’ delete those miskeyed posts what I wanted to say was: LOL , “Airplane,” one of my most favorite movies of all time! I worked for the FAA for 20 years.
  22. @Butschi, thank you for that info. I thought that might be the case since Marshall was Chief of Staff to the U.S. Army, and McArthur reported to him, that would have been a unified position of the U.S. Government For the reconstruction of both countries.
  23. OK, one political statement here and I don’t make any others on this vein. I’m a Moderate Republican (original ideology of strong Federal Government, weak State Government), and I couldn’t, and still can’t stand the Jackass Trump. I felt his speeches were straight out of “Mein Kampf.” However, this war wasn’t because of his policies. I actually agree with his threat to the “free-loaders” in NATO to start paying their fair share commitments or he’d pull the U.S. out of NATO. That didn’t cause the war. In 2014, when “the little green men” from Russia invaded Crimea, and the “vacationers from Russia” helped the Separs, Obama didn’t want to deal with the invasion, despite our treaty that required the U.S. to protect Ukraine from a foreign invasion, so he assigned the portfolio to Biden to handle. Biden did NOTHING, so as far as I’m concerned, this war results from the messages that The Obama Administration (failure to adhere to our treaty commitments), AND the message sent by the European NATO members that failed to live up to their commitments to NATO! TLDR there is more than enough blame to go around, so how about stop with the childish “I know I did, but so did you” BS. No one can change the past, so everyone has to strive to learn from it and change themselves so they don’t repeat it.
  24. Japan has a prohibition of using their Self-Defense Forces outside of their country in their Constitution. Does Germany, France, or any of the other EU members have a same or similar one in any of their Constitutions or Charters?
  25. Apologies if I’m late to the dance on this one, I’ve been giving my old eyes a rest break and am now trying to catch up. If this is true, it’s great news! If he’s a Russian citizen, he can be mobilized and sent to the front! Nobody likes a Turncoat.
