Grenadier Battalions with poor quality equipment were virtually identical to high quality units. Full of MG42's and STG44's. A problem when trying to recreate poor quality units from the static divisions. :) Also a few other surprises.

    Another historical note:

These are the production numbers for the scoped variant of the G43. Note that production only really picked up in November 44. Since the units in Normandy were only really refitted after that campaign, it is fairly unlikely that this weapon actually showed up in that theatre and from a historical standpoint it should probably be left to the games with later settings.

  2. I would say if taken together with the expansion it probably is the best WW2 CM, simply because it has a ton of fairly unique content and is most "up to date". That said, how much you enjoy a CM title boils down a lot to your interest in that particular scenario. If you don't care much about the eastern front at all, you may as well get a different one that interests you more. They are not massively different and the quality between the titles is fairly steady.

The western effort to ‘isolate’ Russia amounts to bifurcating the world economy as the ‘western’ share of the world economy continues to shrink in relative size.

I forget the name of the agency created by the U.S. during WW2 to around the world and ‘buy up’ things that could be of value to the Axis powers.  We can’t really do a similar thing today.

I was surprised to see that on GDP PPP basis the BRICS have overtaken the G7.

Yeah I've also been wondering if future history books won't call these sanctions the beginning of the end of the dollar's dominance of global economy.

Malofeyev is making the case that in order to crush all hope Russians might have had for a better society, they had to be cut off and scared that they might lose everything.  Now it's full on autocracy, including single sourced information, entertainment, arts, and of course education:

That is literally bomb spot B of Dust 2....

  5. There would be other problems with it as well, namely that neither the British nor French used submachine guns in meaningful quality. I mean, you do what you want, but my personal view is that this kind of energy would be best spent on making new content and scenarios for the time periods and forces already covered, especially considering the amount of different stuff already in FI...

Having them be supportive of Ukraine is expected as the cause is just, but the usual response from this crowd is to provide Humanitarian aid, get the UN involved, try to broker a ceasefire, etc.  Never did I expect a child of the 60s telling me we need to send more Javelins and HIMARS, by name for Pete's sake, to Ukraine in order for there to be peace.

    Steve

That's because this war is obviously different from the colonial adventures people are used to protesting against.

  7. Maybe it's me being confused, but is it possible the changes somehow deleted the normal Grenadier Battalion from the quick battle selection? At a glance I can only find the "Ersatz" version, at least in June 44.

For those interested in the unspecified ToE changes, it seems like the German were brought up to the FI / RT standard, namely adding the G41 semi auto rifle and getting rid of the random MP44s.

Germany "called the shots" during the debt crisis more than any other single nation in Europe.  The nations offered the deals put out by Germany had little room to negotiate.  Germany acted decisively and without "Scholzing".  That is leadership.  France, of course, was also a major player and acted in large part with Germany.

The fact that Germany was in large part responsible for the debt crisis due to bad lending practices, and the austerity strategy Germany championed is still controversial (putting it mildly), I agree it was not good leadership.  But it was leadership none-the-less.

That's because this economic policy was in line with the neoliberal policy of the German establishment. Waging war or participating in it is not.

  9. Remember pre-22 when Germany was always quite far at the front of all those "most respected countries" polls? People even called Merkel "the leader of the free world" for a while, because she was arguably less loony than Trump. That's the world Scholz was born for. When the main task of a German politician was protecting the interests of German businesses and shaking hands with this or that sheikh or dictator to get the money flowing. He has not given up on that dream yet.

  10. Regarding the hybrid warfare potential of Russia: As I am sitting in my classroom here in Germany, looking out of the window, there is a massive traffic jam of trucks from all over eastern Europe. The reason: an as of yet unidentified truck has lost tons of white wax on the A7 Autobahn in the middle of the night. The first day after it happened we joked that it may have been a Russian act of sabotage. Now that we learned that this might take the whole week to clean up, some have started to believe it…

Turns out you could probably cripple all of Germany with 4 trucks full of white wax.
