  1. If your strategy is to sneak all of your forces forward, one action space per turn, I can see how you might run into time issues.

    :D

Exactly!! Hide and crawl one action square at a time. The excitement this leads to on finally spotting something is normally enough to involuntary lose control of the bladder. Hence the term prior to this event commonly referred to as piss-bored.

  2. When I view the alpha on the original example in Game Graphic Studio, I can see that there is variable transparency on the tree edging (for a shading effect) which gives it that less crisp look. I would say these pixels vary between 20% transparency to around 50% transparency but they are across that spectrum. My conclusion is that to get that scale of effect with your files (without hex-editing each pixel) you will need art software with 32 bit-depth capability. Perhaps someone else on the fourms with Photoshop can help you improve on these now for you?!!?

I have converted the ones you sent me into (trans on or off only) though; find attached.

  3. To do this, I think it would be easier for me if you uploaded or sent me a greyscale of the alpha. black 0 0 0 being no transparency and white 255 255 255 being full transparency. The more complex the alpha the longer it will take to produce a script.

Do you have a Hex XVI32? My scripts are written for this tool.

  4. I use PSP 9 and have exactly the same problem because there is no PSP 9 support for 32 bit-depth files.

Game graphic studio is a modder's graphic tool that will read 24 bit-depth and save as 32, but there remains the problem of inserting the right hex numbers.

My solution was to write a script for a hex editor which writes the required alpha bytes into the file following 32 bit-depth conversion.

Therefore, if your query specifially regards 32x32 floating icon files I might be able to help you since I have a number of self-prepared scripts.

  5. Without the application of some armour house rules, QB battles can be one-sided affairs; should, for example, the German player select an armoured force of Tigers then the US player may well be unaware of the quality of armour he might expect to face without some rule parameters.

In this case, I'd recommend using Fionn's house rules such as the 'short 75 rule' which will alleviate such a potential problem:-

  6. new pre order format- no disc is shipped but you get a special pair of glasses? :P

Ha really gives an idea how many of us old gamers are here doesn't it.

    :D

Reminds me of an old fella' on the train the other day reading emails on his tablet, wearing glasses, with his eyes barely two inches from the screen.

  7. Sorry to come over all PC but there are people from many countries and ethnic origins on these forums and they should not have to deal with descriptions like this.

It's not a case of being PC, it's simply being respectful.

I think perhaps there is a context for making a perjorative statement about an ethnic group but that context is not easy to convey or define. In almost all cases it would be one which is lighthearted, humorous but rarely if ever serious. Even then, the intended meaning could be interpreted by others wrongly - esp online.

As a matter of online decorum, like the use of other offensive expletives, it's just best avoided - lest others start to avoid you.

  8. Delete all internal files in the folder until you find the culprit, then right click on the file for properties and uncheck read only box, secondly rename the file type to .txt, then you should be able to delete it.

If it won't let you change the file type then you have a file that is probably being used by your internet browser or a third party application/mod somewhere else on the system. You would have to go into task manager to shut that process to allow deletion. As a last resort you can use Malwarebytes "Assassin" tool which is free - this bad ass hardly ever takes prisoners.

  9. Thanks for the response Wodin. No, memory will not prove an issue as long as the os is 64 bit. It is 64 bit software if I recall correct.

Nevertheless, mainstream releases are increasingly incompatible with XP os - which I suspect is to do with support for Direct x11. But whether this is the reason behind my query, I don't know, but I actually doubt it. Perhaps someone can tell me what API the game uses just to rule that poss out?

  10. Nice game indeed. I've been wondering what WOFF was like on XP 64? I know the recommended os is windows 7 but the devs have stated that it will prob work on XP, just that stability cannot be guaranteed. That's the only thing that's stopped me purchasing thus far. Any insights?

  11. Yup, and you guys are surely used to me pouring the cold water of reality onto discussions that go off in that direction :D None probably more commonly than the blur to operational level gaming. Which speaks to the need for someone to do a more operational level game system with CM's overall philosophy and attention to detail. We might be the ones to do it, too, but it won't be within CMx2's framework.

    Steve

For me that there is a tacit bone!!

Recall discussions about persistent battlefields anyone including a hint from Steve that this could be looked at for v3.00? PB's can only be possible if one could put load a .bts file into the editor. And that function is the basis for a possible operational layer - a non BF application naturally.

Y'all remember you heard it here first mind.

  12. Looks impressive :)

Quick question, with the inevitable increase in complexity when bigger maps come in (you can't have a 30km front capability without having at least a few truly epic map filling battles :D), is there any plan to give units more autonomy (even if it's optional)?

Just as one example, I don't see how you can reasonably tell who's under fire and respond, other than second by second stop/go, so having units able to seek cover a little bit more proactively than they currently do or calls to indicate under fire (not just casualties) might help...

I've pointed this out in posts elsewhere, but team based multiplayer (with 'Iron' style fog of war for team players) will be the only way for multiple battalions to be manageable within current CM gameplay (WeGo or RT).

I dearly hope that this feature is incorporated if even larger maps are being catered for - it would be a freakin' awesome step fwd in tactical depth for the series.
