On non-CM related matters, do you have the spinning beachball show up occasionally at odd moments? I've had finder, or messages, or other apps seem to freeze for 10-30 seconds now and then. I had this on the older computer as well but I thought that the newest one, with the newest OS would not.

No, not that I can think of. I haven't had any real issues at all. Touch ID stopped working on my new Magic Keyboard after a day or two but that should not be an Apple Silicon problem.

I tried searching on this topic, but I only found those who virtualized windows on Apple Silicon and got it working.  Has anyone got it working (Red Thunder/Fire&Rubble) under native Apple Silicon using (I assume here) Rosetta2?  Does it run well or is it inconsistent?  Running a Macbook Pro M1 Max, which is the latest machine from Apple.

With the exception of the shadows graphics artefact linked above, it runs great for me on my base model M1 Pro 14". Definitely better than my previous 2016 MBP.

  3. For the most part, it is working great. I'm comparing with my previous base model 2016 MBP 13". I'm in a large Studienka PBEM with graphics settings on Best and the turns load significantly faster. I experience less stuttering when navigating the battlefield. So overall  a very good experience.

I have noticed some graphical oddities in CMSF2 and CMFI - see the buildings and walls below.

I'm not a fan of zig-zag roads. So i end up making compromises to 'fit' the overall 'feel' of the road/track/rail. I think this makes it easier for the player in game to plot road movements etc. So I compromise map accuracy for ease of play.

I agree with this approach and appreciate very much as a player!!

    Looks great!

Right. CPU-wise all M1 Macs are the same for CM, even the biggest 16" (except that the Air with no fan might slow down after a while). But of course the added GPU cores do make a difference.

    Thanks Redwolf.

Should I expect noticeable improved performance compared with my current 2016 MBP with the Intel Iris Graphics 550 1536 MB? I understand this is specualtion only and 'noticeable' is a very vague term.

  6. Could anyone more tech/Mac savvy comment on if the improvements in the new M1 Pro (Macbook Pro) will make any difference in Combat Mission gaming compared to the older M1? I remember someone writing at some point that CM can only use 'one core' - I hardly understand what that means to be honest, but I assume it means the whole multi-core thing does not make any difference for the CM experience?
