Thank you Dave,
very helpful. I'll hold off updating for a few days...

On non-CM related matters, do you have the spinning beachball show up occasionally at odd moments? I've had finder, or messages, or other apps seem to freeze for 10-30 seconds now and then. I had this on the older computer as well but I thought that the newest one, with the newest OS would not.
No, not that I can think of. I haven't had any real issues at all. Touch ID stopped working on my new Magic Keyboard after a day or two but that should not be an Apple Silicon problem.

I tried searching on this topic, but I only found those who virtualized windows on Apple Silicon and got it working. Has anyone got it working (Red Thunder/Fire&Rubble) under native Apple Silicon using (I assume here) Rosetta2? Does it run well or is it inconsistent? Running a Macbook Pro M1 Max, which is the latest machine from Apple.
With the exception of the shadows graphics artefact linked above, it runs great for me on my base model M1 Pro 14". Definitely better than my previous 2016 MBP.

Thanks for update.
Those artefacts look like shader and shadow issues, what options do you have switched on/off?
Thank you very much Lucky_Strike, by turning off shadows the artefacts disappeared!

For the most part, it is working great. I'm comparing with my previous base model 2016 MBP 13". I'm in a large Studienka PBEM with graphics settings on Best and the turns load significantly faster. I experience less stuttering when navigating the battlefield. So overall a very good experience.
I have noticed some graphical oddities in CMSF2 and CMFI - see the buildings and walls below.

Hapless Basics videos are a fantastic introduction to the game for any newcomer to CM.

Received my M1 MacBook Pro 14" 2021 today and fired up CMCW 1.03. Runs great, definitely better than on my Intel 2016 MacBook Pro.

This is very important! Mac does not get PBEM++ and will not. It is a Windows only app.
Huge disappointment.

Yes, yes and no.
PBEM++ only has to do with Slitherine. It has nothing to do with Steam (other than the coincidence that the only game capable of PBEM++ in steam only at this particular time).
Thanks! Off to create a Slitherine account then.

So if I have the Mac version of CMCW, purchased from Battlefront - what do I need to do to be able to use the PBEM+ functionality?
Just install the 1.02 patch when released?
Create Slitherine account?
Involve myself with Steam in any way?

This is Monterey, but not M1 chip, right?
Correct!
My M1 is still a couple of weeks away.

I updated today and CM (including CM Helper) is working fine.

I have one on order too. Please post your experience here if you have time. Might be good to compare how things go.
I will, but delivery is not expected until end of Nov...

I have. 2018 MacBook Pro, updated about a week ago. No issues at all with CM. So far, everything I've tried works just fine.
Dave
Thanks, good to know, then I’ll update by 2016 MBP as well.
I have an new 2021 M1 MBP on order and looking forward to see how CM will perform on that.

Can someone confirm upgrading to Mac OS Monterey does not create any issues with CM?

I'm not a fan of zig-zag roads. So i end up making compromises to 'fit' the overall 'feel' of the road/track/rail. I think this makes it easier for the player in game to plot road movements etc. So I compromise map accuracy for ease of play.
I agree with this approach and appreciate very much as a player!!
Looks great!

Right. CPU-wise all M1 Macs are the same for CM, even the biggest 16" (except that the Air with no fan might slow down after a while). But of course the added GPU cores do make a difference.
Thanks Redwolf.
Should I expect noticeable improved performance compared with my current 2016 MBP with the Intel Iris Graphics 550 1536 MB? I understand this is specualtion only and 'noticeable' is a very vague term.

Could anyone more tech/Mac savvy comment on if the improvements in the new M1 Pro (Macbook Pro) will make any difference in Combat Mission gaming compared to the older M1? I remember someone writing at some point that CM can only use 'one core' - I hardly understand what that means to be honest, but I assume it means the whole multi-core thing does not make any difference for the CM experience?
-
Looking forward to hearing how the game runs on the new Macbook Pro’s!

Wow, thanks all, never too late to learn something new...!

After having played the game for more than a decade, I should know this (and I'm afraid the answer is No) - but is there a way to save a PBEM file while working on the turn and then re-open and continue giving orders? Just starting 'Studienka', and it seems it can be challenging doing a full turn in the limited time period I often have available...

If you fancy an infantry-mainly fight in the bocage, MG Green Hell is good (requires Market Garden).

Have you created a ticket with Battlefront support?
Mac OS Ventura and Combat Mission?
in CM2 General Tech Support

I just updated and both RT and FB works just fine for me.
