  1. In my last game my opponent had a panzerschreck team prone in some grass. My sherman came round the corner, the schreck guy switched from his already equipped schreck to his pistol, got on his knees and fired his pistol into the frontal armour of it at which point the sherman spotted him and took him out. Needless to say, he wasn't very happy. I could have just about bought it if the shot was aimed at the tc but choosing to fire a handgun into the tanks armour when he had a schreck ready to go made no sense at all.

On the other hand I have had an mp40 wielding member of a vehicle crew target the tc of a moving tank at quite a distance and hit him which impressed me.

  2. One potential problem would be that it would make units that are often required to operate out of C2 (scout teams for example) impossible to use properly.

I don't believe the AI is up to the task for this. There are tons of situations and corresponding actions that it would be impossible to programme.

Think about it, your squad is out of C2 in the simplest case where they just remain where they are; this mean that you some how have to re-establish C2 with them, right?

So how will you do this? Send a scout team with which you will lose control once they go out of C2? Move the HQ unit and lose C2 to the remainder of the force? It's a big can of worms in my opinion. Maybe one day, but not in CMBN.

Absolutely, I agree. I don't think this could be done in cmbn. This thread seems more like a hypothetical suggestion though. Like you said before there would have to be some way for squads to have their own initiative and ai would be the only way to do that. Would be really difficult to get right.

  3. Yes, I find it hit and miss too. Makes me more reluctant to split up squads than I'd like. The way I was doing it is to give both teams a move order to the same spot but even then it doesn't work that often. Just sending one team to a spot the other is already occupying works even less of the time. Anyway, thats useful info about splitting into three fireteams and rejoining. Guess I'll start doing that if it's more reliable.

  4. I'd say they're quite useful. They're quick to deploy and target, very accurate and can wipe out a single squad\mg\atg pretty quickly. Obviously theres the risk of exposing them to fire when used like this though and theres no option for linear\area fire targeting.

In the devils descent campaign I liked to take a couple along with platoons and leave a couple sat back somewhere where the fire can be called in remotely. That way I had the option of both methods when I needed it.

  5. My favourite is to approach from a wall that has no windows and blast your way in with a demo charge. Had a breach team surprise an entire german squad like this. Right after the blast the team killed three of them with smg fire and the rest were so shook up they immediately surrendered. Obviously not an option all the time though.

  6. I like to think I don't really care but in a meeting engagement I'm playing with a friend he bought two sets of those goddamned nebelwerfers (a grand total of 360 159 mm rockets) and proceeded to put massive area fire missions on maximum length all over my half of the map with them, using adjust fire to move the barrages about. He also lied at one point to try and trick me, saying he was nearly out of ammo when he actually had 200 left.

Ok, they are expensive but I can't help but feel that it's cheesy as hell and got a bit annoyed. Its the kind of thing I'd expect from some ladder tard, not a friend who I'm meant to be playing for fun. What do you guys think about this? Am I wrong for getting irritated?

  7. The road to montebourg campaign definitely got me acquainted with bunkers. :) If you've only got infantry I think bazookas are probably the best way. It sounds like you've had some bad luck there to be honest, haven't seen many bunkers survive more than two\three hits on them. Only problem is getting them in close enough to make every shot count. Machine guns are next, preferably two of them at once. Might take a long time to knock out a bunker with them but it is possible. They'll usually do a good job of suppressing the occupants too, which can also help with getting your bazookas in close enough. Never had any luck using mortars on them. Don't forget about using smoke to neutralise them either. Anyway, good luck!

  8. Well that is certainly confusing ;)

Hopefully you mean the method and not my explanation. ;)

You can do a lot more than just pause and face, too. I've setup complex strings of commands where I move, face, pause, move, target a specific building (while pausing for several seconds, move, clear target, etc.

Right. This thread from the cmsf forum has some good examples of the kind of things you can do:

  9. If Blackcat was being sarcastic, he should do a better job of not writing nearly word for word what our most grumbly customers would :D

I still agree with his first part, sarcastic or not. People should play games for enjoyment first and foremost. If a game is not fun for someone, no matter what the reason, they should put it down. Period. If the reasons for putting it away seem to be temporary then pick it up again later on after things have been fixed. It's not like a customer's game license expires if it isn't used.

    Steve

Haha, fair enough. I think the key to his post was "best wargame around" Basically saying that Steiner isn't seeing the forest for all the trees. Trees which are being addressed and fixed tirelessly for v1.01 of course ;)

Anyway I'll stop putting words in other peoples mouths now. How about them low walls huh?

  10. For the UI i'm using a mix of Jujus, Marco Bergmans and Niessuhs ui mods.

    Other mods:

    Bils gridded grass.

Veins tracers, skies, explosions and smoke.

    Scipios muzzle fire and flames.

    Oddballs sound mod.

    Ramblers weapons.

And finally DeutschRitters icons, Niessuhs base markers and Seqoiuas mine markers.

All good stuff, thanks guys :)
