  1. Has anyone else had the bug with infantry mounting a halftrack where a couple of the squad don't get in but instead end up running off across the map in a random direction? Really annoying because it leaves you unable to move the halftrack or give orders to the squad inside it. Had it happen a few times now, it seems to happen if they're in the process of mounting at the end of a wego turn.

  2. Low walls can be crossed by tanks and infantry, hedges and fences can be crossed by anything I think. One good tip is that whenever you're driving over something like a hedge or wall the slower you go the less damage it will do to the tracks\wheels. I always break through stuff with slow, a lot of the time it doesn't do any damage. That also applies to driving through some types of rough terrain. Going quick through heavy brush for example will cause much more damage than going slow.

  3. Quick rule of thumb...

If you want to limit your engagement (Targeting), use Cover Arcs. If you want to optimize your Spotting, carefully choose your Facing, Position, and Unbutton. Cover Arcs should not be used to optimize Spotting. That just sorta comes as a side benefit for limiting your targeting area.

I advise this because if you try to "game the system" (e.g. eek out an undeserved bonus) to get a little bit of a Spotting edge you might very well get a side effect of not engaging something you otherwise would like to engage.

Yeah, I've had a few too many disasters with cover arcs to try to use them like that anymore. With afvs I mostly use cover arcs for stuff like setting the facing of a turret while it's coming out of cover, then using a face command to get rid of the arc asap.

edit: It's funny to me how when I first started playing the game I would go crazy with complicated sequences of waypoints with cover arcs and pauses all over the place but nowadays I try to keep everything as simple as possible and have been seeing much better results from it.

  4. I've noticed the hesitations & such and have been able to make 'deductions', myself. But since its calculating during the 'replay' phase its a moot point. Whatever slowed the bar down you're going to watch happen to you in 10 seconds anyway. About it being an aid to cheating... there's no page in the manual that says you shouldn't cheat. So cheat with a clear conscience. ;)

No it doesn't. If you're playing pbem it happens after you click end turn on the command phase. Then the file is created to be sent off to your opponent to watch. So in theory you could go back and create another file if you see something you don't like from the bar. Like I said earlier though, I can't imagine being able to gain an advantage from it.

  5. If you want the file email me...I named it Super Panzer.. Did I mention after killing the first zook team it drives up on a waiting M10 who puts a round penetrating into him? The Super Panzer doesn't even flinch.....he calmly stops rotates over and fires, destroying the M10.

So, I assume then that AP and HE are not modeled? I mean earlier in that same turn the tank shot and blew up the zook team (must of been HE) then a few seconds later fires again blowing up the M10 (must of been AP) whom he didn't see until after been hit by it.

Tanks will drive with a round in the tube... normally AP. If there is a target that requires the opposite it is quicker to fire the wrong round at the target then to try to reload. (at least this was army doctrine in the 1990 when I was a tanker. So, in the above scenario the tank either was combat loaded with HE when he blew up the zook team (AP rounds on troops are pretty worthless) then reloaded with AP, which makes no sense, after just finding grunts in the woods I know my TC would of ordered my to load more HE. So, if HE was loaded he destroyed the M10 with HE... possible but not likely.

The game doesn't model what type of shell has been loaded, no. The type of shell to be used is decided at the moment of firing so you never have to worry about that.

  6. I used to get this a lot (w7 64 bit) but strangely haven't had it happen once since the patch. Anyway what I used to do as a work around is save the game after giving my orders (save in the menu, not by ending the turn) then if the file doesn't create after ending the turn just load up the save and try again. That way you don't have to plot all your orders again.

  7. Ok thanks. My question is: Despite the additional 15 min delay when you adjust, can you still order the adjusted bombardment on a location not in LOS of any spotter?

If so, that 15 min wait could still be well worth it if it takes you 15 mins to get a recon unit into position to see if there are enemy positions at the new location.

And after all, you could order a 5 minute pre-ordered bombardment delay and keep adjusting to buy extra time until you check the location for enemy positions. (Yes, it's all kinda gamey, I agree.)

Nope, your spotter will need los to the place you're going to adjust it to. It's treated like normal arty and requires the whole spotting rounds process to get it on target.

  8. If I see the spotting rounds and figure out where the arty is likely to land I'll get out of there. If my opponent follows the arty close enough to take the position before I can get back then staying there probably wouldn't have helped much anyway. If I get caught in it I'll hide to keep everyone flat on the ground and wait it out, maybe split squads up and give some slow orders to space them out and try to get into shell holes or any nearby cover. The ground floors of buildings offer good shelter from lighter arty as well.

  9. Move order will automatically make the gun pack up. The thing that seems to confuse people is that after giving the move order it takes minutes of packing up before they'll actually move. Can see from those screens that gun has a 6.3 minute packing up time so thats more than 6 turns of waiting until they actually start to move. As long as you see packing up in the soldier status on the left you know your order is being followed.
