  1. "slow" makes your unit crawl. You trying crawling everywhere and see how tired you get! ;) And no they do not recover any faster with the "hide" command. Yes, they will recover eventually. But an exhausted unit takes a VERY long time to recover as compared to a "ready", "tiring" or "tired" unit.

I would only add that you really really want to avoid exhausted because it takes so long to recover from. Once you guys get Tired don't worry about it it but start thinking about where they can rest a bit. If the hit Fatigued then get them to stop ASAP because Fatigued is bad enough but next step is exhausted. If you plan some rest when your guys get tired then they will stay OK.

Also note, if you are moving a platoon of if infantry with heavy weapons attached (an MG or a mortar) be aware the guy guys carrying the heavy weapons will tire quicker then the rest of the platoon.

  2. Is it possible to break this mod into 2 parts? One for the allied icons and another for the Germans. When I look at German units, I prefer to use the German symbols as they had used them. For the allies, I prefer to use the allied symbols as you have created in your mod. I hate to have to choose between one mod and another if I could just have the best of both worlds.

    Check out this mod:

It is not updated for Commonwealth yet but I hope it will be.

  3. Well that is cool. I figured all that was written by Sergei. It worked - sort of. I had to copy the link location and search for that since the link text was shortened by the editor.

In google maps (e.g. maps.google.ca) search for the string below to see it displayed:

  4. These are two of my favorite mods - right after Vin's animated text. I was wondering if Bill Lockton (Lo Vis Icons) and Daniel Lopez (Niessuh contact icons) could comment on their plans to add the new nationalities to there wonderful mods.

    Niessuh contact icons

PS. To be clear, as far as I can tell, both of these mods are working just fine with the CW release they just don't modify the new nationalities unit / contact icons.

  5. Speaking of Cromwell tanks - wow I am loving them. I never really paid any attention to them at all. But last night I was slowly adding mods back in starting and stopping the game. To keep things interesting I played a small armor only meeting engagement quick battle. I let the computer pick forces.

Anyway I ended up with some Shermans and some Cromwells against the computer's favorite Panther and some Stugs. I sent the Shermans one way and the Cromwells the other. The Shermans soon met a Panther and started dueling (which ended badly for two of the Shermans). But I ordered one of the Cromwells to flank at high speed to see if I could get the Panther from the side. Wow that sucker moved like a bat out of hell, came up on the Panther from the side and got a penetrating hit. Then after shrugging off a hit from a Stug they withdrew a bit and eventually took out the stug and then I sent them back to finish off the panther - which was obviously damaged.

It was one of those great moments and now I am interested to play a more serious game with Cromwells.

  6. I cannot believe I am going to be the first to submit CW module screen shots to this thread.

This is from a QB I setup to try the PIAT against German armor. I have a Canadian infantry company (with a 6lbr and two Achilies). The Germans are crossing the bridge and my first PIAT team fired its first shot from a second story window.

(Yes, I did give them a face command toward the tank. I expected them to be at the window but I'm not complaining)

And missed - rats I was hoping the first one would be a hit.

  7. There is no separate patch. The ability to better utilize memory is already included in the game. Do not run ANYTHING THAT ALTERS THE EXECUTABLE.

    Roger that.

If by "4GB patch" you mean you set your operating system to use a larger virtual address space (the /3GB switch, or increasing user VA, what have you), then great. But do NOT use any "large address" patches that alter the exe.

Humm do I have to do something extra on my 64 bit Windows vista machine to get CMBN 1.10 install to make maximum use of my machine's memory? I figured from reading the change list all was well.

  8. Thanks guys. And thanks for making the *up to* 36 hour wait for the download only crowd more like 6 hours!!! :) Downloading right now and can't wait to play.

+1 to that - I feel like I am part of the club again:D

Now go get yourselves a hot meal and a few hour's rest!!!

Good idea - the real flood of tickets, posts and PMs start in a few hours.

  9. So, on an Apple MacBook Pro, when I do the install, I tell it to put the Commonwealth install someplace else?

So, I have a pc but the process is most likely similar. Here is what I will be doing - once it is available:

Starting with the fact that I have the existing game installed in a directory named CMBNP1.

    1) Leave the current working install alone. Do not mess with it, don't look at it funny:)

    2) Install the base game into a new directory called CMBNCW

    3) Install the patch onto the CMBMCW directory

Note: you now essentially have two installs of the same thing except the new one has no mods.

    4) Install the CW module into the CMBMCW directory.

Now you have both versions installed and you can keep playing your current pbem games with the original and start your new ones with the new install.

  10. Easy solution, keep your 1.01 install as is and install 1.10 in a new folder... As long as you install the base on the same machine you can load it as many times as you want ...

I highly recommend doing that. I ran with the original game and the patch side by each for a while. One by one I migrated PBEM games over or played them on the original game if there was a problem.

  11. <snip>People who do not want that (and want just the downlod) will have to wait for the official release (which is planned within the next 36 hours).

Oh please don't make us wait anything like that long. We are ready to give you money now!

What is the criteria for deciding to open it up to the rest of us unwashed masses? Do you have to wait until a certain number of pre-orderers get it? In which case come on you guys get going. Or is it once the traffic has dropped off? In which case - nothing to see here move along hopefully a lot off people's email is down.

    :D

  12. Well that sucks. OK actually it is awesome, or it will be awesome once I can order it too.

Note to BFC: I would have gladly given you money for a pre-order but I have *no* desire to have any physical media mailed to me. Please, if you are going to give preferential downloading to those that pre-order - let those of us that only want a download to join the club

  13. Happened to me yesterday ( for the first time actually ) - in a pbem game of Huzzar!,

Yeah, I saw it sever times in my recent game of Huzzar! But also in much smaller scenarios too.

Possibly a RAM issue, since Huzzar! is the largest scenario I've played to date and running XP so only 3Gig available.

But again, I'm upgrading to W7 in the next day or so, so unlikely to be repeated.

Don't bet on it:) I am running Vista with 4G and see it.

What I have found that works is always restart the game after you play a turn. By that I mean if you are playing turns for your 5 PBEM games shut down the game between each one. That seemed to reduce the occurrence. Some one else reported that positioning the camera low and such that very few unit icons were in view and waiting 5s before pressing the big red button and then waiting another 5s before pressing the OK button. I have been doing that - not sure if it helps but I have been doing it.

The most important thing that has been helping me deal with this is I always save the game before pressing the big red button. When the save dialog comes up I add _save at the end. Then when I press the big red button my turn has _save 001 at the end. I then backspace away all that and press OK. That does not stop the problem of the game forgetting your turn but it means that the cost is only a restart and reload.

Hope that helps your remaining time with 1.01 be less stressful.

  14. Word back on the PBEM thing is, in short, that we aren't sure it's completely fixed because we were never able to reproduce it. However, since we moved to a new compiler the problem appears to have gone away, which hints at some sort of issue with the old compiler. We're hopeful that's the end of that one.

    Steve

Yeah, those bugs are the worst kind. I am happy to hear that this is likely behind us. All the wishing that this worked different or that feature got added pale in comparison to spending time working out some new orders for your guys and having the game forget about them.

So, thumbs up. I look forward to pressing the big red button without a care in the world:)

  15. <snip>I prefer to latch on to the word 'finalized' (sic) ;) in the above quote and attach entirely subjective interpretations as to the length of time it implies. I would assume that finalise couldn't possibly mean any length of time exceeding one week.<snip>

Yeah but things are all iterative. Yes, it is true, once you think you have a releasable build there is a finite time between when you make the call to ship it and when it is available. But part of that time is final testing. And if you find something you want to fix before releasing...

    It has to be investigated...

    Then fixed...

Then some testing of the fix...

    Then a new build...

And then the clock of "finite time before shipping" it starts all over again. And trust me you don't want them to short change that final testing process.

The anxiousness of you guys amazes and amuses me. <snip> Maybe not having an internet during most of those years was an advantage as I didn't have a crowd of anxious guys all being anxious together.<snip>

LOL good point. I guess I am not helping either:)
