  1. Thanks for the responses. Yes, it would make sense to copy a legacy version, even at 11 gigs, just to compare it with 3.1. I still enjoy CMSF and fun to move up the ladder to RT and see the obvious improvements in the engine over the years. I will probably wait until after Christmas, though. Need to get Black Sea first.

  2. Forgive me for asking, but I don't post a lot.

    1. To upgrade to 3.X, I don't have to re-install anything, just submit serials for game/modules? Also, must I remove Z folder first and then put it back. I would rather not upgrade than lose Aris and Juju's mods, particularly desktop general.

    2. Do most people see a measurable increase in quality with the shaders?

Basically, I'm hesitant to mess with what is already working well. Thanks!

  3. Well, one of the CMANO devs says the game is doing very well on Steam on the $60 sale. As expected, there's been a huge "pricing" outcry from the same idiots who'll spend $50 for a ninja fighting game. When the price goes up to $80 it will be rougher.

Matrix said they'd never go to Steam, and I'm sure we'll see BFC there in our lifetime - with all due respect. In fact, if CMANO, an extremely hardcore partly finished game is selling there, how could CMx2 possibly do poorly?

Unlike, EA, if BFC makes more money, we get better games, and we get them quicker. We just don't want them to do too good on Steam and decide to retire on us. I have no hope of retiring ever, why should they :D

  4. I agree completely and would be amazed if CMANO was a big hit on Steam.

Very different games, and nothing compares to the immersion of CMx2 anyway. I bought CMANO on game day, and was duly impressed, as Harpoon has just looked like crap for too long. I like the in-game editor, too.

I can't handle learning the game right now anyway, so will wait about a year until all the issues you mentioned are addressed. They should be fairly easy to fix once the devs find the time.

I do expect the Steam CMANO forums to be pretty entertaining, though :)

  5. Well, this whole Steam debate should be answered fairly soon. Matrix just put up Command Modern Air/Naval Operations on Steam. Not only will the price completely freak the Steamers out, but so will the complexity. That is one bad ass game in terms of learning curve. One way to measure its future success or failure will be to see if there is a big drop on the Steam forum discussions after a month or so. Most games that have died on Steam show little or no forum activity after a while. No big secret there.

  6. I have CMRT and holding off on 3.0 for the others at the moment. Here is the question for me - will we be seeing CMBN and/or CMFI modules in the next year maybe that will require 3.0 upgrade?

Reason is, I think it is a very good deal to just have to pay $5 for 3.0 upgrade when buying a new module. That's a very fair policy. So, any modules planned? Thanks!

  7. No big deal really. At the moment, I feel spending $20 to upgrade CMBN and CFI to 3.0 based on the skimpy version log is not worth it. I enjoy them as they are and also have CMRT 3.0. I would rather put that money toward a new CMRT module.

However, when a new, must-have module comes out for CMBN or CFI, I will consider the 3.0 upgrade. If that's how it works...

  8. I think we all trust BFC's judgement regarding Steam. Not that it's any of our business anyway :) But it is pretty darn interesting that Matrix has suddenly opened the floodgates. Distant Worlds and Pandora might do pretty good. But CC will be the better test. That and whether they hold the price for a year.

I think CC will get some curiosity sales, but no big swell. We'll know the results based on the further actions (or inactions) by the publisher of those games.

It's basically crazy - I see WI selling FW on Steam for $25, when it's also available at GG for $4.

  9. S*** happens. XP died two weeks ago and lost everything (almost every game BF ever published) upgrading to Win7. But I have to admit, the license/activation thing caused no issues as I reinstalled and patched all those games. No CD's except CMSF. but did have all the exe's and mods backed up on external hard drive. ha!
