  1. I can't see the average Russian buying into whatever promises he's given. Nor have his actions contributed to the dream of a Russian resurgence - yet. The populace at large has long been cynical of government by nature, don't you think? And a change would bring "reformers" not hardliners, and maybe that's all wishful thinking.

  2. This discussion has remained generally tactical, as it should be regarding CMBS. What concerns me is Sburke's comment, ..."and then it gets interesting."

Can this group agree on possible outcomes? If not, what can be ruled out:

    1. Russia's fortunes improve significantly, Putin gets much of what he wants, and NATO (the West) backs down. Possible?

    2. The opposite happens and Putin decides to go full scale? What is the West's response?

If there's no point in addressing these strategic issues, no problem. I don't expect to sleep any better tonight.

  3. From a technical and performance standpoint CMBS is king. In fact, I got $20 off by not upgrading CMBN and CMFI to 3x. Although they all use the same "engine" there is no comparison when CMBS required new models and who knows what else. I think BN and CI (and all the mods) run just fine in 2x. I simply don't see the value in upgrading. When they do a new module, then I'll buy in.

  4. I have 162 CMSF scenarios and 100+ CMBN, so the numbers have fallen off. We must also consider the modders that do the critical graphics work that makes these games great. They're too busy to create scenarios! Neither can we ask BFC to stop patching the games and create a paid scenario disk.

Maybe the core community designers could get together and put a preferably paid scenario package on green as jade site? I would gladly pay to support it. However, I prefer scenarios, as I like to tweak (and credit) other people's work. You can't do that with campaigns.

Speaking of that, does anyone know where that campaign zip utility is to break down the campaigns into scenarios?

We could also do a kickstarter to fund experienced designers who have the time to do the job right.

  5. I'm 58 years old and history got me interested in wargames, not the other way around. With this in mind, the future might be bleak for the newer generation interested in space and high tech stuff.

I also enjoyed reading/studying the 300-page manuals. That is something that the "I wanna play right now" generation is not into (I don't think).

I'm sure the hardware will be available though, particularly in iPad form.

  6. I have been questioned about visiting all the ACW sites, as if it were out of morbid curiosity. If I was slain/buried there, I would want future generations to visit. Antietam is usually empty though.

Playing war games for me was motivated by reading 100's of history books. Had I been involved in real bloodshed, I'm not sure I'd even be able to handle CM2, which is not so graphic.

If I have guilt, it's the time I spend playing when I could be doing something for someone else. Does it keep me away from my wife of 30+ years? Definitely. But, in general, I only play when everything else is done.

Beyond that, no guilt. It's an intellectual exercise that helps us remember and honor the units depicted on both sides - except for CMA, maybe.
