The Daimler Armoured Car was a parallel development to the Daimler Dingo "Scout car", a small armoured vehicle for scouting and liaison roles. Like the scout car, it incorporated some of the most advanced design concepts of the time and is considered one of the best British AFVs of the Second World War.The Daimler saw action in North Africa with the 11th Hussars and the Derbyshire Yeomanry. The M3A1 Light Tank was known to the Commonwealth forces as the Stuart III. It had a new turret with turret basket and no cupola, gun vertical stabilizer installed and the Sponson machine guns were removed.The name General Stuart or Stuart given by the British comes from the American Civil War Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart and was used for both the M3 and the derivative M5 Light Tank.
