Thanks guys - I love the fact that I can get this sort of technical detail in discussion here. You rock!
-
I tried that. I get a big black 1920x1200 square.
Odd:confused: Works fine for me.
Open paint, open CMSF, get into game. Hit print screen, Alt-tab to paint, use mouse to click onto new page and Ctrl-v. I'm not particularly 'puter savvy (they tolerate me, barely); maybe OS? maybe graphics card? Maybe 'puters are even less tolerant of you than me?

I'd expect a backup comms system to be in place at some level - brigade? You could design the units with redundant circuits to be cut in when the originals get fried (and hope no-one decides to let off a second EMP) but this would be expensive.
As far as the tablets (in the Strykers) are concerned, I've been issued one to use in my job, but it's too unreliable. Having two weeks work disappear is no fun at all - I use pen and paper in the field and transcribe to a desk-top.
-
Yup - Print Screen, open Paint and ctrl-v - et voila.
-
I'm curious -
In the first clip the shot is followed by a second puff of smoke(?) from the barrel. Is this a cleaning system like that used by naval guns - a blast of inert gas (usually nitrogen) to clear the barrel of debris? It might make sense to increase the life of the rifled barrel...

Quite the opposite is true, dear friend.
Sometimes - the spectrum of stupid takes in intelligent , that of bravery cowardice. Apples and oranges, yeah? Both are descriptions of behaviour - inferred characteristics. The reality - ok, the simplest and truest observation of their behaviour - is that these men fight. We'd ought to hear them explain the facts behind their decision to fight before justly ascribing a motive, or reason.
I suspect this canyon walk could be appealing for many of the same reasons for which men fight - the brisk adrenalin of risk, calculated and avoided. The tinge of fear that lends itself to our satisfaction with this world. The reward of completing the exercise.
I reckon you'd be feeling pretty good by the end of that little stroll - you might even see a mountain goat.
-
I'd say yes - small calibre stuff isn't going to move the dirt far (which means most of it will end up in the same hole as the cowering dude, who can then throw it back into place). By the time the MG (say) has chopped a hole in the landscape, the cowering dude will either have died of thirst or dug his way out of the LOF.
-
Oh I meant with real firearms against real dirt :-) Maybe it's a goofy question. heh.
Maybe. What's the saying?... "Ask a stupid person, get a stupid answer.":D
Need to find out how much dirt each aimed shell moves - at about 27 cubic feet the target is not really protected any more.
-
One? - unless the ground is invisible?
Maybe "direct LOS to the foxhole before the ground..." :confused:

They were both elected to office - its not as though we didn't have a say. A common sense justification of their actions would lead you to believe that they believed they could do good, but also that they could make a lot of money doing it. They got one bit right.
An awful lot of people bought into this last decade, mostly following the examples set by their leadership. With the use of doublespeak the powers denied they were saying anything of value, but we (generally speaking) sat up and cheered them on.
Undoubtedly Bush and Blair have served their countries - but whereas Blair stood himself down (maybe?), Bush had to be thrashed on his way out. With a shoe.

A man's biggest and worst mistake is to EVER think he can read a woman's mind. At best, he is lucky to see her finger tighten on the trigger before she takes him out of her misery.
fixed that for you gunnergoz

There in lies the irony. The man (Bush) who has made it possible for the journalist to "express his anger" without fear of death is the man who is now being subjected to it.
To expect a dialogue is wishing for too much, but throwing shoes at someone constitutes assault, and it's illegal here - I would think it's illegal there, too. I don't generally condone assault.
Sure, but this is cartoon assault. What is the worst that can physically happen - lose an eye? Bush wasn't worried for his physical wellbeing - except insofar as he showed a fair turn of speed.
First off, how can we be sure he didn't plan it?Who, Bush? Could've, I guess.
Secondly, if it wasn't planned, then at best that makes the journalist a hot-headed spaz who is incapable of controlling himself. I've seen 5 year olds behave in this manner, and nobody has ever praised them for throwing a temper tantrum. How is this man's behaviour any different?Indeed - most unprofessional. Drum him out of the guild. Fine him. One generally doesn't beat up on five year olds.
~~~~And as for whatever motivated him - whether it's the death of civilians or not - really isn't an issue for me, so don't expect me to argue this moot point. I don't give a sht what motivated him, his actions were illegal. He's no hero. He's just another a-hole with an uncontrollable temper.
Amen, brother.
Thanks for the clarification - turns out my comprehension wasn't.
Arty doesn't take and hold ground, for that you need infantry. It does prepare routes for advance though - so if you believe you have the uber troop advantage (through command skill or perceived quality of the troops themselves) and you get lucky, you can fight the second part of the battle in defense, where your numerical disadvantage isn't so pronounced. Or come up against an opponent who knows how to counter the use of your artillery, bleeds you dry then comes on in and stomps on your outnumbered units.
Managing odds is one part of the tactical toolbox - but managing the men and machines and the plan is most of it.
-
Mmm, carp.
Quite possibly it is a healthy sign that someone feels free to express their anger in such a fashion: personally, at the man he holds responsible. In this way dialogue is instituted and maintained - maybe it is preferable to do this without resorting to throwing shoes, certainly it is preferable to do this without resorting to bombs or guns.
-
It's one of the [great] features of this game - you can never be sure of your time limit so you are always pushed to approximate your required reserve. Uncertainty rules!
Because no one is willing to take collective responsibility any more ("its a socialist concept") it is an each-man-for-himself world that we have created. And the species advantage granted by altruism is trumped by the propaganda that no one is to be trusted and no one is to be helped, because, after all, they won't help you.
Consequently we have the new darwinian rule: In a dog eat dog world, the dog with the biggest litters, wins.
And the lie that is told best of all is that it has always been this way. History retold, revised, pandering to the incomplete psyches of the malicious and bored: i.e. those that would eat dogs instead of walking them
Heh, I had no idea the third reichists were believers in reincarnation. This bloke, for some unknowable reason, hopes for the second coming? Face it, the human race has no need to look to its past to find monsters within - we're perfectly capable of throwing up the best yet. Again.
-
If you think it is "fortunate" to end up with a force consisting almost entirely of artillery modules, you have a different problem playing CM.
I'm pretty sure your comprehension skills failed you on that one Jason.
-
Hi Vince.
I haven't experienced this myself, but a search through the archives here shows it to be an occasional problem with few solutions offered; mostly to do with paying attention to ammo levels and morale.
Are you only playing one set of parameters with the battles - or is it happening with all battle types (including scenarios)?
I prefer Kiwis - easier to catch than sheep and fewer teeth.
As far as the original thread topic is concerned, stomp away USA!
Corvidae - crows, ravens, magpies, butcher birds, maybe even the hoopoe.
How is it that I can live this long in a world where money is so important and not know these things? Oh, that's right, I decided money wasn't important to me.
No wonder I don't have any.
Er, -40% of their worth. If they put it all in something like a S&P 500 Index. And if they had it all in stocks as retirees, they're retards.
If they put it all in a Bond Index like they should have, they're up 4.76%.
My bad, that ought to have been writ as "nearly retirees" rather than "current retirees".
So, are you saying that we shouldn't invest in shares? Or just that the risk/return equation is such that 5% return on guaranteed capital is a great way to go, whatever the state of the market?
If the US doesn't get a handle on its financial woes, the value of the dollars the Treasury is paying isn't necessarily going to be worth the same as the value of the dollars paid for the bonds.
The discussion is getting as ugly as the real-world circumstance.
As far as the religious distinction of populaces goes - they all worship the same god. Jew, Catholic, Muslim and Protestant - all worship Jaweh. Which would lead you to believe that the problem lies with the people, not the religion. Try talking about where the money is / is not going - that'll more likely lead you to a solution.
