  1. I for one wasn't bothered about the higher price of the BF version, but i was slightly maddened that when my copy arrived the case was very badly damaged. The only thing that prevented the disc from being snapped was, ironically the larger manual. I know the UK postal service isn't what it used to be regarding how they treat the mail, but it was only shipped in a jiffy bag which hardly offered much protection.
  2. The present commander of the British army was a former CO of mine back in the early 90s. Danat i think his name is spelt.
  3. I agree 100% with the mouseover. I've yet to recieve my manual and figuring out all the icons can be quite tricky. On the subject of ammo. In a normal stryker squad, who would use the 7.62mm ammo. Or do all the ammo types appear regardless if no members of your squad can use it.
  4. No the buffs arn't part of the Green Howards. Although there is a story dating back to when the regiment was formed that there were two regiments, each commanded by a man called Howard. The reason for the 'Green' in Howards was because of the colour of the facings on the uniform. So they were named Green Howards and Buff Howards because of buff colouring. I havn't heard of the buffs except from this story so i'm not sure what there called now.
  5. Served in the Green Howards (UK infantry regiment) for just over 6 years. 87-89 londonderry, Northern Ireland 90-93 Catterick garrison, North Yorks, spending time in Cypress, West Germany, kenya, falkland isles and another 6 month tour of NI, this time Armah, bandit country. I served most of my time in mortar platoon, fun times indeed. I've had Gerry Adams in my SUSAT sight and knelt in Martin Mcgiuness front doorway.
  6. I had no problems moving my stykers past those trucks. I actually moved 3 stykers in a line formation (giving each styker individual move orders)all the way to the barracks. I do however have problems about openings inbetween walls however. Also when you try moving a vehicle and it has to pass by a stationary vehicle is a bit of a dilema. I usually use slow command in built up areas. This sounds stupid and i don't mean to offend, but make sure your not on 'hunt' move command. I know i've done it a couple of times without realising...

  9. I too have had a LOS issue. I started one of the single battles and 3 of my strykers were instantly taken out. I found the culprits to be a couple of T55s that were a whole map side away to my right, and behind a building and trees.I locked onto one of the T55s and lowered my camera to his turret level and there was noway he could see my stykers.
  10. This is my first CM game, and i do feel that i've jumped in at the deep end. The tutorial didn't realy help me, but playing the game for many hours now has improved me somewhat. I thought the review was pretty much spot on. It also helped clear up a little misunderstanding i was having with the second mission of the campaign. Having the uncons invisible, imho, is not fair. I suddenly found myself surrounded by uncons which seemed to spawn in buildings. Now if there had of been civis/exclamation marks in those buildings my forces would of been more alerted to any possible danger. Just having them spawn is an AI cheat. That mission in particular should not have had any civilians in the area as it was only recently bombed. I also agree somewhat with the graphics statement. I'm not overly impressed with the landscapes, infact after having just replayed Comany of Heroes i was downright dissapointed. The vehicle details are admitedly very good but alas you have to be up real close to see this and as i zoom out i start seeing flickering textures, especially on the slat armoured strykers. As the UI is quite daunting for newcomers to CM, i was atleast expecting to see a far better control panel implemented. Having to flick through the manual every so often just to see what the icon represents is offputting, when all was needed was a 'point mouse over icon and a box appears' would of helped. Speaking from a first timer perspective i can see great potential for this game but as i'm unfamiliar with BFs ongoing support i don't know how much better it will get.
  11. Where do you find the training missions, or are you refering to the battle missions.
