To the original post....
2ID doesn't fight as a division. 2-2, 3-2, 4-2 are all Stryker Brigades under I CORPS

I think eSim is heading in the right direction.
For a sim thats been around for just under 10 years it's probably not where it should be. Again, they have a customer (not the people that buy SB Pro - the military) that is looking for a specific product, with specific specifications, and they meet those specifications.
If enough people complain with enough pressure, they will eventually surrender on some aspectI respectfully disagree.
They have even stated on their forums that development is centered around military customers.
One can only hope...

I also don't think he spent a lot of time with the game. It takes a bit of time to learn the camera and use it quickly.
When you compare CM to other games on the market, for example, RUSE

My copy of the sim which is the same copy that all "Joe Public" persons get and is a somewhat distilled version of their "professional" software so really, who knows what they've done because I don't; each country's needs are specifically tailored.
I played the US Army version of SB a few years ago. Graphically, it was terrible. They don't have to worry about AI much because the vehicles are all crewed and driven by Soldiers. The scenarios weren't complicated that required alot of AI. It was usually Platoon vs Platoon, with the enemy sitting in a battle position with scouts deployed.
I'll go way out on a limb here and make the assumption that you don't enjoy multiplayer. The Pro PE community is very much active in this department. Every friday night there is an online session.I have. The SB community is amazing. I've had people take the time to work with me 1 on 1 to help me troubleshoot some technical issues. I had total strangers offer to send me a router when mine went tits-up.
I'm not seeing anything like that with other sim companies producing ground warfare type games (haven't really looked tho)That's my point why eSim has put so little effort into their sim. The militaries that buy this stuff don't really care about visual feedback, just basic functionality.

The mission editor is a scenario designers dream, it's simple and yet affords a great deal of complex scripting. The AI is as good as any out there and I make the assumption that it's light years ahead of the original (I never played it). Single play is solid and you definitely won't go wrong with multiplayer as that is where the team play really shines.
Steel Beasts has, BY FAR, the BEST mission editor i've ever used. Scripting made easy!
My only beef with Steel Beasts is that the game (graphically, and physics) are so far out of date. The developers put up this shield, in that they say that they're not developing the sim for the public, but rather for military contracts.
I'm getting tired of hearing it.
I purchased the 2.6 'addon' but I dont play it. It's just not good. The AI pathfinding is still terrible, and infantry serve no purpose other than graphical representations of dismounted soldiers. they have no soul, and are literally cannon fodder.
Hopefully eSim will eventually realize that they are sitting on a gold mine. Instead of focusing on being a good armor simulator, they can develop their sim a bit further into a good ground combat simulator

They even have a Summer 1942 DLC coming out on Jan. 15th,
Will report back on whether it lives up to the hype.Holy crap that looks amazing

From the review...
it's hard to get back to the Combat Mission glacially slow graphics engine .
Ouch.

Do you really think it would be the end if we could play CMBN with multiple players on each side with Wego or RT? That would be pure joy!
Beating other humans H2H is where the fun is but beating others together is even more fun! Imagine all the bickering going off here after a 4 vs 4!
Coop is where its at. Everyone wants to fight along side their buddies!

I got totally raped in that level by the German artillery!
How did he manage to arrive to the bridge untouched? When I sent my de-miners towards the bridge they got shot at by the arty and fleed.
Are you supposed to fire smoke shells from the start so that you hide your approach?
Same here. My entire engineer platoon was wiped out near the bridge - they werent bunched up or anything. The Germans called in a very large barrage.
Shortly after, my assembly area was hit and my BN commander was killed along with an entire infantry platoon.

Add
-On screen CAS and CCA (close combat attack) would be nice
and ragdoll for our virtual infantrymen
-
It would be nice if CM had a point-and-click UI.
When you press the space bar, you get a list of options. I tried to map that to the right mouse button, but no luck.

I believe Steve answered this already. Going backwards into the darkness isnt going to happen. I play CMSF almost everyday and cant wait to start work on CMSF2. I think the plan is to make the improvements in what we got with BN along with many improvements you guys would like to see. Its easier to do that now that BIJ2 is in the mix. Just we all have to be patient.
Backwards into darkness? I'm not sure what you're referring to.
So, you guys aren't putting any more effort into the engine?

I'm not really concerned with WHO is in the next game.
I'd like to see some development time dedicated to improving the engine
-
aHHHHH
Thank you.

bump this thread.
I'm in the same pool. I'm good with photoshop, but not really sure how to get my own icons in game.
-
how do you create these icons?
I'm going crazy trying to make my markers transparent. I'm using photoshop, but I get an error when I try to load a transparent .bmp
When I try to edit the markers in paint, they end up in game with a black border.
THanks

Any news on where the Battlefront team is headed next?
I'd love to see a CMx3 engine with improved physics (ragdoll effects, vehicle handling)
I'd also like to see a mission editor similar to Steel Beasts - something that offers easy in-game scripting.
Any news?
Thanks

These textures look insane when you compare them in game to the stock textures.
Do you have an eta on Sherman? They're looking too clean!
Thanks

Running around seems to be a bit 'cowardly' so I rather have them hugging the ground Especially if close to enemy when they get shot also when they start running for cover.
Since I have never been in an arty barrage I wonder what they would do in real life when spotting rounds start falling. I'd quess not running around
There's nothing cowardly about getting out of the impact area.
In game, if I see spotting rounds landing near my men, I'll haul ass away.
It is also US Army doctrine to move out of the impact area.

Agreed. It just isn't right that a K98 has the same sound as a Garand. If nothing else, have one sound for bolt-action rifles (K98 and M1903) and one for semi-autos (G43 and Garand).
I'd prefer that the G43 and K98 use the same sound. Same nation, same cartridge, easier to tell who's shooting.
Same applies for M1903 and M1 Garand...same cartridge

reminds me of the Stu from Company of Heroes. Looks good, cant wait to downoad
-
Just a quick reminder here for the next patch.
Please include distinct sounds for the k98 and mp40
-
Looks great in game. Thank you

Maybe it's me, but the Sherman, Stuart and Pz IV do sound a bit like my lawnmower. Crappy lawnmower that is..
You must have a very powerful lawn mower
Sound Request
in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy

I've been gone for a while, but I just wanted to say a quick 'thank you' to the dev team for finally adding the different sounds.
