  1. Really disappointed in what I've seen with SF2 screenshots.

Looks like the same old CM2 game engine. Call it upgrade 4, upgrade 100...or whatever it's called now. It's still the same engt that was developed in the late 1990s.

I was hoping for something more...perhaps a new game engine that would support larger maps, better terrain, better performance, better multiplayer.

I realize I'll be airbursted to death for saying this, but the lack of optimization is horrible.

There really is no excuse for a modern game to be running this badly.

    I agree 100%

CM isn't pretty and runs poorly - especially compared to competitors like Wargame, which runs and looks amazing.

CM still kicks the tactical sh*t out of any game on the market - I just wish we had the looks to go with it.

  3. I bought multiple copies of CMSF to give to some of my Lieutenants.  I am really at a loss why the Army doesn't at least look into Combat Mission as a low investment sort training.  Likely because it doesn't require a dedicated guy to show you how to do things, or a complicated infastructure to run.

So really, I think if Steve just made a "Department of Defense edition" that was less user friendly, and required some retired Sergeant First Class to baby sit it, and made the graphics worse and introduced more bugs, CMDoDE would be the system of record in no time!

    Quoted for truth!

The retired SFC comment really bugged me. Whenever I'm at the CCTT/VBS3/JCATs those guys are very difficult to work with, and are less than flexible when it comes to altering scenarios.

  4. The group we today know as ISIS did not appear just out of nothing but has, in some form or another, existed ever since the fall of the Saddam regime.

Correct. They were called ISI, and had many smaller groups/gangs that were affiliated.

Not surprising that Naqshabandi is already butting heads; eventual it's all going to fall apart on them. When people realize it's all about money and power, and not ideology....

  5. I've always wondered what the pilots are saying in-game.

I've worked with CCA (Close Combat Aviation) and CAS (close air support) in Iraq. I understand what the chopper pilots are saying, but I've never heard any of the lingo that you hear the CAS pilots use in-game.

    So I looked it up...

"Dash 1 is in the pop"

"DASH #" is used to determine the order of march for aircraft in a flight.

"POP" is when an aircraft is beginning to climb for a ground attack.

  6. It seems silly that the US can flatten towns and villages without so much as a slap on the wrist

    Leveling villages, you say?

    What's your experience?

This conversation can go a few ways; We can talk about how much ordinance is required for 'leveling' a village. We can talk about how many villages have been leveled by US forces since both Iraq and Afghanistan. We can even talk about REALISTIC rules of engagement that US forces have had in both conflicts.

Or we can just come out and say CRAZY THINGS!!!!
