  1. Been a few years, last time had some rigmarole with unregistering/re-registering a license after getting a new PC. Now I can't login to the downloads area (assuming it's still there) and there doesn't seem to be a forgot password mechanism either. Wanted to play WaW before deciding on buying Global Conflict, but if it's going to be this much of a hassle to install, I'll look elsewhere.
  2. No rush. Honestly, it's so nice to hear from someone who's actually responsible for the code/programming vs. getting some canned response from customer service (like every other software vendor out there). </rant>
  3. Not a huge deal, and probably fairly rare, but I noticed when my Corps was adjacent to the port at Rostov, and itself was occupied by a sub, I captured it intact on the next turn when the Russian sub fled. The city itself was taken and scorched like normal, but the port was not.
  4. Not sure what happened but it's July 1940, and all of a sudden all the convoy routes are grayed out in the Convoy Map (see attached .jpg). Halifax and Suez are still allied occupied and Liverpool remains untouched as well.
  5. Doh. That makes sense. Want to be able to surf the Web while the AI is "thinking..."
  6. I've tried unchecking the full screen option in the settings, but it doesn't appear to have an effect at all. Any way to run the game in windowed mode?
  7. Yes, I was ALT-TABing back and forth while it was compiling. No, I didn't try to go back into that one particular scenario but I did get into several others and it worked fine, so you're probably correct.
  8. Can someone enlighten me on what these AI settings mean? Has there been any noticeable changes made in PDE regard this? Thanks
  9. I skipped a few pages of the thread and noticed we're now talking about human vs. human only. Is this campaign not ready for AI play?
  10. Hello, Tried opening Honch Expanded Fall Weiss PDE.cgn (latest from cmmods) in the PDE Editor (1.01) and got the following error: --------------------------- draw_sprite_array(0) --------------------------- DIRECTX FAILED: dderr_invalidrect --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Windows XP Service Pack 2 P4 2.8GHz 2 GB PC3200 RAM DirectX 9.0c Have the video acceleration option checked off in the main game; not sure if that affects the editor.
  11. Not quite sure what PDE offers besides the new campaigns vs. WaW. The AI is supposedly better (and I don't play MP generally) and the map is larger, but the rest (commandos, double strikes, etc.) were in WaW. Can anyone list the differences between the two?
  12. Tried copying and editing the new global campaign that comes with SC2 1.08 but after saving and playing, Japan is France and France is Estonia, even though I only modified the victory.txt conditions and Country Data > Germany.
  13. How does it run on your machine? What is your test machine(s) config?
  14. Do you need to have different layers for the weather/transportation type (road or rail) or could there be a different tile for each terrain type + weather (rain or snow or sandstorm or clear) + transportation (rail or road or clear)? I'm not sure how that would be beneficial vs. layers, if layers are indeed the bottleneck.
  15. I figured you had a reason, Hubert. What would make it faster? Are there any other optimizations you could do?
  16. I've also updated my NVIDIA drivers; no improvements. Currently digging into 2D graphics optimization settings (if there are any; I set the slider to "performance" instead of "quality" but that didn't help either).
  17. Alright, crunched down the Bitmaps directory from 49MB to 21MB using Imagemagick on my Linux box; game seems a tad quicker, but not as much as I was hoping for. The Interfaces folder's .BMPs were already RLE compressed it seems; file size was the same.
  18. Ok, I compressed weather_sprites.bmp with RLE compression (using Adobe Photoshop CS2) and reduced the size from 25.0 KB to 7.52 KB, loaded up WaW and noticed an improvement. Just to be sure that I wasn't losing my mind, I renamed weather_sprites.bmp to weather_sprites.foo and WaW crashed with "failed to initialize weather..." yadda yadda so I'm pretty sure it's being called by the game. I could crunch through all of the BMPs in a batch; I bet I could reduce the BMP footprint by a fairly large degree.
  19. Didn't realize that there was already a thread for this issue: Noticing that the scrolling through the snow-effected Russian portion of the map is very sluggish in contrast to the North Atlantic or even North African regions so one can only assume its the number of sprites(?) used for the snow effect. My comp is by no means a screamer, but should more than enough for WaW: Pentium 4 2.4GHz with 2GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT (256MB RAM) Dell 2005FPW 22" LCD monitor (native 1680x1050) WaW settings: Tried 1680x1050x16 but didn't seem to help much. 1280x1024x16 was slightly better. Running full-screen mode. Can the BMPs be optimized? Some of them seem ginormous, but that's BMPs for you.

  21. I hope I'm not coming off as a whiner -- I'm just trying to drum up some discussion on AI behavior. As for WaW, I'm loving it so far but there's always room for improvements.
  22. Had one of my German armies stumble upon a Russian armored unit (+2 armor technology) camping out in a fortification surrounding Moscow. Surprise attack sent the Army reeling with 8 points damage, leaving it with 1 strength. Adjacent to the Russian armor was a corps and another armored unit with 9 strength. Next turn, I'm ready to write off that Army: with 3 full/nearly-full strength units nearby there's not a chance that my mortally-wounded Army will survive. The Allied turn ends with the Russian corps moving two tiles to the left towards Leningrad, the 9-strength armor reinforcing, and the brutish armored unit responsible for the damage of the previous turn... doing absolutely nothing. Turn ends and no attempt was made to kill off my helpless unit at all. First chance next turn, I re-up the strength of the unit to 10 and thank the God of War for having mercy on my army. Any insight to this behavior? The Army's supply was 7 if that matters and there was an artillery unit (+2 motorization; no artillery technology upgrades) behind the wounded Army. As far as I recall, SC2's AI was pretty good at finishing off isolated units with < 3 strength.
