  1. I'm not even sure what all the fuss over the PD on the resupply drop ship is..? In my experience it's quite easy to destroy the thing.. It has trouble dealing with low trajectory projectiles and is easily overwhelmed, even the stationary towers are not 100% effective at stopping low trajectory rounds like AP..
  2. Many newer AFVs have more significant underside armour these days, in response to mines etc.. So it's not unreasonable that the Thor has decent underside armour.. I really believe the main issue with the 20mm gun is that even hitting the side of the tank at a 179ยบ angle will still give you penetration.. If the shell was more heavily effected by the angle of the shot you would have fewer kill positions and actually have to try and get behind it.. Currently you can go head to head vs the Thor and still get side hits quite easily because the acute angle doesn't significantly effect the shot! The Apollo is at a terrible disadvantage since the frontal armour is easily penetrated by the 20mm rounds, I personally think that should be changed.. Why ever use the Apollo if its armour doesn't even protect you from front on 20mm? I also think the 20mm Apollo variant is sort of useless, why would you ever pick it? Its armour wont help you in close combat with other vehicles and it's much slower than them.. Rear penetration with 20mm vs the Thor is fine, but side and side turret penetration seems too much, especially when you can easily spray the fuel cell.. Current M1A1s do not take damage to the side from 20mm, even AP-RPGs are only able to penetrate the armoured skirt of the side, not the hull or turret.. I believe 1 or 2 WERE disabled from 20mm to the rear though.. These were mobility kills only.. Frontal penetration against the Apollo should really be reconsidered..
  3. Currently can't join any server.. It sits at the join screen for ages then eventually says something about username/password being wrong or unable to validate..
  4. This is common to all OpenGL games.. GL distance fog gives you greater visible distances from the sides of vision from the front because of how it scales for perspective..
  5. I'm not talking so much spinning while moving forward and turning, I'm more talking about crazy spin-outs while sitting still and rotating..
  6. After a bunch of Thor vs 20mm Paladin battles I think the main reason 20mm seems so godly is that even when facing front on to the Thor it can almost always still aim down the side and score lots of hits, due to the angle modifier capping at 0.5 it still easily penetrates at even the most acute angle imaginable, coupled with the very high rate of fire and multiple shells per burst it very quickly rips your internal components up.. Considering it will take the Thor 2-3 hits to knock out the Paladin, in which time the Paladin can land many many hits, the Thor will lose every time unless they foolishly aim at the frontal armour.. Against the Apollo it is even worse, since the 20mm rounds will penetrate the frontal armour!! In the time it takes the 120mm to reload for the 2nd shot you will have killed it easily even by shooting the front..
  7. Yep, I'v seen the same thing a few times.. Though it isn't really common for me.. dual 1.25ghz G4, Radeon 9000...
  8. Read the background story
  9. I think there could be some issue with slower load times on OSX.. I tested it on a 2.4ghz Celeron with 512mb ram (win98) and it loaded a full minute faster than on the dual 1.25 G4 with 1gb ram.. (2min vs 3min)
  10. I find it gets very laggy.. But that could just be my computer.. No other problems..
  11. I don't really see a problem with it, perhaps it could be laid out a little different, like have a major heading for Apollo, Thor, Paladin, etc, then under that heading have the weapon mount 20mm, 76mm, ATGM etc, so it's easy to see there are really only a couple of vehicles with different load outs.. I think perhaps the 20mm Apollo should be changed to a dual mount 76mm turret.. The Apollo is not fast enough to get in close with the 20mm..
  12. Well going by those figures, it seems that 76mm really has no use, 20mm is only slightly weaker but has a crazily high rate of fire which easily makes up for the small power difference.. 120mm Doesn't seem to be significantly more powerful, but of course has much grater effective range.. Perhaps the 20mm really needs to be toned down a bit? Saying that futuristic 20mm rounds are more powerful than ww2 or current ones is fine, but if 20mm rounds are tons more powerful, wouldn't the 76mm and 120mm rounds have scaled up similarly in damage? Instead of 20mm just catching up with them? Anyway I'm sure they are collecting all the stats from the servers and will be able to see what's too power and what's too weak [ March 25, 2006, 06:06 AM: Message edited by: Netherby ]
  13. Well I'm glad to hear suspension is actually there But yeah I think it is too stiff currently.. Any comment on the all wheel drive vs rear? Or the braking thing where you can make them vehicles do wheelies and flips?
  14. At the end of the match I often sink into the ground.. I think it might just be from client side prediction and latency as the map ends..
  15. I kinda think 20mm might be a bit overpowered in drop team.. It's quite capable of penetrating the frontal armour of even the Thor under about 500-400m.. While the 76mm seems ineffective at just about any range..
  16. Well it finally dawned on me why the wheeled vehicles especially just felt "wrong" in their controls.. None of the vehicles have suspension! Which is why they tend to tilt and bounce and roll a lot.. It's just more noticeable in the faster vehicles, but it effects the tanks as well to some extent too, especially going over steep terrain.. I realise it may be difficult to alter the game at this point if there aren't provisions for a suspension type system already in it, but it would make the "feel" of the vehicles a lot better and more fun to drive in my opinion.. They move a bit like bricks without it.. Perhaps also the vehicles should be made all wheel drive? It's sort of annoying to not be able to move because your back wheels aren't on the ground and seems a bit unrealistic for an AFV to be rear wheel drive.. There is also something that niggles at me about the brake system.. Often it feels like brakes are only being applied to the front or rear wheels based on your direction (front wheels for forward movement and rear for backwards). They also seem to react strangely with acceleration.. Hold down forwards and brake at the same time while sitting still (you wont move) then release the brake while still holding forwards and the vehicle will rear up on its back wheels (possibly doing a back flip), doing the same thing with reverse will have the same effect only it will rear up on its front wheels.. It is kinda cool looking to do it, but it makes me wonder what's going on with the brakes.. Another thing I noticed tonight, when a Shrike bumped into my Thor it was able to push me around.. Should smaller vehicles really be able to push the larger heavy ones? (this was from it hitting me in the side, not the front or rear). One final thing with with tracked vehicles turning, not so much with the Thor, but the Apollo and the Command Track can go spinning wildly when you turn them.. You can make them skid sideways too sometimes, but mainly they spin crazily fast sometimes.. I'v seen an Apollo spin out in a full 360.. It's painful turning your front armour towards the enemy only to have it spin out of control and end up facing your rear instead.. Well that's all from me currently p.s. please add gamma correction slider to options menu [ March 24, 2006, 01:12 PM: Message edited by: Netherby ]
  17. I like to see everyones score at the end of the game.. But your team winning should really be the main concern! On the death/kill messages I'v noticed that some things don't report a kill, like turrets have no kill message.. And instead of saying "xxx kills yyy's zzz" perhaps it should say "knocked out" or "destoryed".. Just a personal thing but I find it kinda odd that I killed a lump of metal
  18. Are you sure it is players doing this? Because Bots will ALWAYS suicide if they get: immobilized, run out of ammo, lose their gunner/ability to fire.. I think this is sort of a bug in the AI, but they will never call for extraction.. I'v never seen a player kill themselves when getting pounded.. But people do that sort of thing in lots of games to "annoy" the person trying to kill them or something.. Personally I don't care, it's a team game and they just lost a vehicle for their team that could have been extracted and are no longer a threat to my team, I count that as a kill personally.. Who cares if it's not on the score board?
  19. Seen it too.. I'v never been able to join a server with 11/12.. When you start connecting I believe you do instantly show up as being on the server..
  20. But remember resupply ships are team wide, so don't be too greedy!
  21. I would just like to say I'm really happy with the patch, not a single crash since I updated Well not yet *touch wood*

    Bugs

Yeah I have got a number of kills from fairly tight angles down the side of vehicles, but only at very close ranges.. The getting stuck on the edge of the building thing I mentioned in another thread.. If you're half on the ramp and half on the top of the wall in the ice base, you cannot turn, only go backwards and forwards.
  23. Another bug I experienced seemed to be my client never synchronizing with the game properly.. It showed the match time as 0:00 and I had "Team Water wins the Match!" on my screen, but the next map had just loaded.. It kept prompting me to drop a unit but never actually dropped one and I could still see everything happening in the game, turrets being deployed and the bots and players moving, I could even take control of the bots, but even then I couldn't control the vehicle and was still stuck in observer mode with a match time of 0:00.. Several times I'v had another thing happen, where the game is all fine but I can't get into control of my vehicle, its on the map and I can see it, but pressing tab has no effect.. Taking control of a bot fixes this though and everything goes back to normal..
  24. I'v been doing a little bit of fiddling with customizing controls and the like, I think perhaps that's not quite finished? Anyway there doesn't seem to be any way to currently set mouse buttons/wheels/etc to functions? I guess you might be adding that.. Another thing with controls that would be good, is the option of making some functions toggle, like the zoom function could be set to toggle on/off instead of pressing and holding. Also with the zoom levels it would be great to have a zoom out function so you don't have to cycle through all the levels to get back out.. A feature that I really like in the graphics settings is gamma correction, games that don't have it are annoying because I often have to mess with my monitor brightness to get them looking right.. Could we get a gamma correction feature put in? Pretty please?
  25. It's a bit rare, but I have had this happen a couple of times now, you call for extraction, the dropship picks you up and you get set to observer mode... The drop menu never comes back.. I think it could be related to the extraction ship getting killed before it leaves the battle field, I'm not sure if that was the case every time I'v had it happen, but it was the case tonight.. I think it may have been destroyed *just* as it picked up the vehicle, so I got ejected into observer but perhaps it never registered as an extraction.. A simple work around was to take control of a bots vehicle, they usually don't mind
