  1. I have also started experiencing crashes, on CMBN. I had always regarded these games as extremely stable, so it was a surprise. One possible clue - each time it was when I went AFK for about 20-30 minutes. Since then, I have not gone AFK and left the game running, and it hasn't happened again so far. I wonder if a Windows update is causing the problem. Nothing has changed on my rig. Except maybe an Nvidia driver update some time ago.
  2. Hello there Comrades! It has been 6 months since I headed out for physical training at the gulags! I am now fully re-educated! Looks like the fun has continued unabated!
  3. Sure, sounds good. I don't think we'll use any of the special leaders in the battles this turn, given that each group is in peril (fairly small, and being attacked by more powerful foes).
  4. Okay thanks Phil. Still working on the rest of the map construction. I'll put on a burst of speed on it this week.
  5. Okay. Thanks for processing the battles. And thanks to the guys who fought them as well.
  6. Ha ha! Nice one Snols! Where's your vacation? Hiya Phil, what is 'Combat Operations'?
  7. Yeah Rokko, will do. Only thing is it's still a work in progress. I made enough to do the town battle and the forest for this turn, and I'm working on the rest currently. I read somewhere that Scenario Depot 3 has newly arrived? I could upload it to the BF website too once completed.
  8. Righto. I guess I'll just have to chalk it up to being a total novice to the operational game and the transition between what we see on the hex map and what we see on the CM map. In the image below you can see the entire battlefield, with the forest hex superimposed. So, this is where I thought the battle would be fought. As it is, our forces start out on the plains, and as chance would have it, directly under fire from the enemy assault guns. Snols, given the situation, there seems to be 3 options: - Retreat, while possibly losing more tanks. - Continue the attack. - Hold, and possibly get overwhelmed during the German move. I'll leave the decision to you as field commander. You do have permission to continue the attack if you think there's a chance of taking down some of the assault guns. What do you think?
  9. Just got back from a weekend away at a farm property with some friends. Snols, I see your situation is a difficult one, and your forces are in an awkward starting position. I'm confused about why they are stranded out on the plains. The movement during the operation phase involved an assault in the woods, but it's as if you've started out in the open. To my knowledge, the T-34's have already paid a price moving through this open ground during the operational movement, and were now entering the forest hex, which is behind (south) of the stream. The reason I sent the T-34's into this assault was because I believed they would stand a chance against equal numbers of German assault guns, while fighting in close quarters in the woods. Instead, they seem to be out in the plains, and much further west than I pictured, which of course is not a great position to be in versus German guns, unless the Russians have numerical superiority. Kohlenklau, can you have a look at the situation and help clarify what is happening?
  10. Hi Pallebahtep. Yeah, I know the feeling myself all too well. But remember, the enemy artillery is out of your control, and you're making good progress. Rally your men as best you can and continue where you have strength. I'd be wary of sending your tanks in front of your infantry - as much as possible, use the infantry to spot positions, and then reduce them methodically with the tank's long range firepower. Keep your chin up, and pound them into dust! Even if you don't end up taking all the ground, we can still win by eliminating the enemy, so take your time. Snols, what's the status of your battle?
  11. Sounds like the battle is going well Pallebahtep! Keep up the great work. Thanks for the reports and the screen shots, they look great in the dawn light. It's quite a thrill to have built the map, and then see the screen shots of the battle. What do you use to capture the images? I found the normal 'print screen' doesn't work so well, and I bought the 'Fraps' program about a year ago. Nice mod Phil!
  12. Haha! Nothing so mystical unfortunately. They were piles of dirt and debris that I modeled off an actual photo. There seems to be random piles and mounds around the place in the Hungarian countryside. I suspect they are created by farmers who push debris out of the way to flatten the area, and then they are left there. Then grass and brush grow on them. Interesting that using actual photos as reference, that often the features of the landscape (both natural and man made) are somewhat unusual and unexpected. By the way, do you know who is actually on the allied team? Did Jaeger Jonzo defect? What about Ardem? Snols and Pallebahtep are active. Marco2marzo has popped in once. I haven't heard anything from Strachwitz. So do we have only 3 active members besides myself?
  13. LOL! Time for some parade drills and a field inspection from the -2 German officer! Great medals Phil, nice work! This whole show is like some kind of interactive performance art heh heh! Including a generous helping of comedy. What will the maximum diameter footprint of the mortars be? Excellent Pallebahtep, looking forward to seeing the coming battles.
  14. Turn One, dawn assault on Migojo; briefing by CO. Polkóvnik Pallebahtep, come and warm yourself by the fire. Your mission is to take the town of Migojo from the fascists, and destroy them without mercy. Earlier this night, Comrade Snols lead a reconnaissance mission into the town. They estimated enemy forces at about 2 companies of infantry, supported by machineguns and a 75mm infantry gun. They are dug in. No enemy armour. You have no artillery support for the attack. But you do have 16 tanks and 6 assault guns. THEY are your artillery comrade. Use their high explosive shells and machineguns to pry the fascists out of their holes like flame onto ticks! Use your infantry company teams cautiously, to spot the enemy and then quickly crush them with your guns. Consider joining your tanks and infantry together, as your crews may find it hard to spot the snakes in low light conditions! With so many vehicles, you should have more than enough HE shells, but remember your tanks have MG's if needed. Also remember that your assault guns do not have MG's, and should be kept back. Perhaps use them to cover your flanks. Destroy the defenders surgically and methodically, and keep our troops alive - particularly all of the the armour, which are some of the best units we have available for this operation, and will be much needed in the days ahead. Do you have any questions? Good fortunes Pallebahtep.
  15. Turn One, forest assault at dawn, west of Migojo; briefing by CO. Polkóvnik Snols, at ease. Do you want some vodka? This is a search and destroy mission. Our scouts have spotted enemy assault guns in the area - no more than 9. They are your primary targets! Eliminate them. As you know, the German assault guns have medium frontal armour, so instruct your crews to use their turrets to advantage and get shots on their flanks where possible. Engaging them here in the woods is more effective than engaging them on the plains! Use this opportunity to destroy them. I strongly suggest using the penal company as scouts for your armour. Consider splitting them up and sending scout teams out in every direction. Some teams will reach good vantage points and can stay in cover to observe. Others you will probably risk sending forward into suspected enemy territory. It is unlikely they will have the stomach for combat, so use them as your eyes instead. Be wary of the potential lines of fire on your flanks when crossing the rail lines or the stream. Also, there are reports of some enemy infantry in the area as well, so tell your crews. You have all of our available artillery assets at this time. Use them fully. The plotted footprint of the 122mm howitzer battery can be no larger than 154m diameter. The plotted footprint of the 120mm mortar battery can be no larger than 88m diameter. You must keep the Starshina alive. His leadership skills will be most useful during rest of the operation. Do you have any questions?
  16. Don't worry Snols, just a warm up match. A tough assignment too Snols. You will have the opportunity to fight again. Comrades, a couple more battles coming up soon. We will be attacking into the town of Migojo and attacking the woods to the west. I need 2 heroic volunteers to lead our men to victory!
  17. Thanks very much kohlenklau! I had a peek at the battle raging in Migojo. Axis entrenched all over the place, firing from ambush positions. Snols men are fighting hard. Submachinegun fire everywhere, grenades flying, artillery sounding overhead. Some of Snols scout teams have been ambushed and gunned down, but the sapper's return fire is taking a toll as well. Snols, hope you don't mind me posting these screenshots. Your flamethrowers lighting up the night were too good to resist. Looks like the sappers CAN "hit the side of a barn". The Axis team inside is in grave peril.
  18. P.S. thanks for the unit cards! I will be referring to it regularly! Do our infantry units have any intrinsic support such as mortars or AT guns by the way?
  19. Ah! I see. My eyes were drawn straight to "Assault Aviation"! Thank the Generál Ármii for the additional help. Hmm, I'm concerned about the location of the HQ and batteries. We can't spare adequate protection for them, and while we're busy going up the map, they will be extremely vulnerable. Is it possible to request that they start the setup in the far left corner and the one to the right of that (rough)? It would kinda make sense, since they look like they are all travelling up the road hexes in convoy. I'd like to make an initial move with the cavalry recon if I may - west ('up' the map - 4,6?) 3 hexes to the rough ground, to see what they can see. Did you say visibility is currently 5 hexes?
  20. Calling Comrade Podpolkovnik Snols, do you read over? We need intelligence reports on the enemy disposition in the town of Mogojo, including general layout of trench features. Also enemy composition, particularly any support such as anti tank guns you may come across. Over and out.
