  1. There's no snap views in the game. Using the left and right arrow keys are faster than using the mouse when the commander is viewing from the hatch. I agree, the view scan is too slow. Hit the "S" key to turn on the targeting computer (SUO). You need to click twice (within 5 sec) while keeping the gun sight on the target as it's moving, then fire. Do not lead the target. If your targeting computer is damaged, you may have to use RVD mode. Or, if you just want to practice shooting/targeting manually DV
  2. "Still, i hope a fix for the multiplayer code comes out real soon, as im still waiting eagerly to design some missions that test some hardcore tankers!" Me too
  3. You'll have to start it up with the "no video" or "safe mode" option if you don't have DiVx installed. The only diff is you won't see the short startup video...
  4. Hey RG, You prbably have some stuff in the registry left behind by the previous installs. Try using a utility like CCleaner (ccleaner.com) to clean up your registry, then try again. Hope this helps.... DV
  5. "Hey, on Mission 4 he was an ARMS dealer not a DRUG dealer!!!!" You're right...but when I popped him with the HE round, there was a big cloud of white dust, so I figured he was running some bad stuff too! DV
  6. Try running the "no video" menu option to start up T-72. That's was it's called in the full game. It might be called "safe mode" or something like that in the demo. Hope this helps...
  7. ** WARNING. MISSION SPOILERS. ** Don't read any further if you don't want to know how missions 1 thru 4 play out Here's a recap of my experiences with missions 1 thru 4 (I just started on Mission #5): - Mission 1, Capture: Took me two trys to get this one. I came in from behind the ambush area (nice of them to note that for us at quadrant H-2 and managed to nail the RPG guy, but got nailed myself by the Super Sherman as I moved down the hill. The second time I was more careful and approached slowly so I could see the Sherman before he saw me. Well, I found him at the bottom of the hill flipped on his back on the other side of the road. I pumped an AP round in him just to make sure he was dead. Form this point on, it was an easy trek to the Serb to complete the mission. - Mission 2, First Encounter: This one took me about three tries to get it. I moved to position 1 and set up to a hull-down. What made this one hard is there's an enemy tank that moves in quickly from the North (T34 I beieve) and another shortly there after from the South (SU100?), so I had to take out the first tank quickly so I could take on the next before he got me. Practicing the T34's manual sighting helped me get thru this one. - Mission #3, Breakthrough: This one took me several tries to complete....a real bugger! I found that if I came from around hill 353, I could carefully move up unseen at location C8. From here I was able to take out the anti-tank gun in across the valley in the wooded area (Enemy position 2), and the one at E-7. Using the IR view helped me to locate them in the rain. There were two more guns and an MTLB which I took out while moving along the ridge toward the East at F-8. Then it was on to the Village to take out an MTLB(?) and an infantry squad...finally wrapping up the mission. - Mission #4, Commando: I lucked out on this one. On my first try I attempted to get to a position on top of a big hill at A-1. Well, as I was carefully seting up a hull down position at the top of the ridge, a T34 got me....BANG. On try two, I once again attempted to reach the hill, but I saw a T34 running South just to the East of my position, so I turned and fired on him. Took about three shots to do the job. Shortly thereafter, another T34 came from the wooded area of D-4 and I managed to nail him too. I got a couple of hits on my tank during these encounters, but none penetrating. From here I decided to go all the way around, heading north to C-1 and then turning East toward E-1. As I was approaching the village from the North, I saw the jeep with the arms dealer driving very fast heading South on the road out of the village. I managed to let go one round before he crested the hill, but missed.....damn! As I approached the village, heading SE, I ran into a T55 which fired at me and missed. I picked up the driver position (I was in the commaders spot)and ran as fast as I could go down the hill to the area of F-2 / F-3 so I could get out of his line-of-sight. I spent the next hour hunting the T55's, and in the end found that they had both toppled over; one at E-2, and I can't remember where the other was. These AI tanks have a tough time staying upright! As this point the drug dealer was long gone and I figured I had lost the mission. I decided to continue on and headed East on the main roadand located the jeep at J-3!. I guess the map restricted him from going any further. Seemed like a cheap shot, but hell, after all that work I didn't mind in the least blowing his jeep high into the air! After taking out the drug dealer I was directed to go to the check point at B-10. I was was almost out of gas (from hunting those T55's) and just barely made it to the CP and completed the mission. 8. Argus, I see the same thing. Maybe in the next patch they can make the external view changes more responsive, e.g. Move the camera at a constant speed, and immediately start/stop when a key/button is pressed/released. DV
  9. A couple more: 1) AI vehicles rollover too easily. Examples: a) In the ambush mission, the super sherman rolled down the hill before I could shoot him from my ambush position. In mission 2 of the campaign, I found the enemy super sherman rolled on it's back at the eadge of the road. c) In mission 3 of the campaign, the personal carrier rolled over down the hill after it started moving when the player tank approached the serb lines. Actually saw this happen twice (since I had to play this mission about four times to win 2) On many occasions, the commander's orientation/position gets changed while switching between gunner and commander (ususally 180 degress different). I have to rotate the commander all the back to the target direction.
  10. Hi All, I wanted to start a thread about anything y'all have noticed in BOF that appears to be a bug, so here it is These things may not necessarily be bugs, but things that we want the developers to be aware of while they are patching the software, and also stuff that needs further explanation from the developers. Moon / Madmatt, if there is a better place for this thread so the developers can see it, please feel free to move it. Here's what I have so far: 1) The T-34 and T-55 main gun sight slowly drifts (I believe to the left) when the tank and turret are stationary. I haven't noticed this in the T-72. 2) The machine gun on the T-34 and T-55 shoots to the right of the sighting mark. Maybe this is how they really shoot? 3) The statistics page in the Diary needs work. On mine it has that I've completed 1 mission, when I've completed 2 (I've naturally progressed to mission #3). Also, "Failed Missions" is duplicated: One with 5, and the other with 2. 4) Giving orders to "units under your control" from the map is buggy. Sometimes it works, sometimes there is a delayed action by these units, and sometimes nothing. If it's not buggy, I request more detailed intructions on how to do this from the developer. That's it for now. Please feel free to add what you have found. DV
  11. Thnx Martin...I'll take a look at "landeff" and see what I can do with it. DV
  12. Moon, fellow T-72ers........any help here?
  13. Hi, Check out my response here: http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=46;t=000227;p=2
  14. Hi, Check out Mission Pack #2 (http://www.battlefront.com/products/t72/downloads.html). It contains a target practice missions for the T-34 and T-55 (and also missions based on the T-55). I think the Leopard tank will shoot back once you hit it first, but all the other targets are benign DV
  15. The practice missions for the T-34 and T-55 are designed for the full game, not the demo. I know because I designed them I'm pretty sure that the other missions are designed for the full game as well. DoubleVeteran
  16. Hi, Steps to use manual targeting (assuming gunner position): 1) Press Ctrl + W 2) Use the range finder in the sight to calculate the range. 3) Put the targeting diamond on the target. 4) Adjust the range using the "U" and "I" keys. Use the proper scale (AP, HE, etc.) for the round that's loaded. Once you set the scale to the right distance, do not move the diamond back on the target (I did this at first.....duh! 5) FIRE!!! 6) Adjust the gun elevation (using "U" or "I") if the range is off, and fire again.... If you're still not hitting the target, it may be because you're using the wrong scale, or you just need more practice, like me
  17. Hi Moon, I worked thru your tutorials (very nice BTW!) and managed to create a mission based on the “Firing Range” single player training mission. Since “Firing Range” only lets the player choose the T-72 tank, I created a mission based on the T-34 and called it T34/84 Target Practice. It's a training mission that allows the player to learn T34 gunnery in a more controlled environment. I plan to do one for the T-55 as well. I sent the T34 training mission to Madmatt for consideration as a downloaded mission for the T-72 “Downloads” section of Battlefront.com. Anyway, my question is about adding snow to a mission map. In your advanced mission tutorial you mentioned this about core.bat: “For example, check out “i_grasseff:grasseff” and set “24: Season” to “summer” . Or check out “i_raineff:raineff” and change “ 25: Pattern typ” to “snow” ! I looked for the “i_raineff:raineff” object and managed to have the snow fall at the desired size (initially, the snow flakes were huge!) and volume. Since I wanted a snow-covered landscape to go with the falling snow, I tried setting the “Season” attribute of “i_grasseff:grasseff” to “winter”, but the editor didn't like that value (generated an error). An attribute of “fall” removes the grass (and doubles the FPS!); “spring” and “summer” also work. I'm thinking that “i_grasseff:grasseff” is not the place to be looking to do this, since it appears to be related to just the grass and not the landscape as a whole. Can you tell me what I need to do to put snow on the ground in a T-72 mission? Thnx! DoubleVeteran
  18. I just got it last week and I'm enjoying it, but still learning Been practicng as driver, gunner, and commander during the single player missions to get a good feel for things before I jump into the campaign. I'm not doing well with the AI units under player control yet (F11), but I picked up some tips from SimHQ that may help: http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=132;t=000074
