  1. All tanks that can be controlled by the player have a basic driver view (F9). But it's in all tanks the same and reminds me as if SBPPE has seen T-72 and quickly adapted that feature... Tankbuster is right, most of the time you won't bother driving the tank in SBPPE, because there's so much else to do, that you propably want to concentrate on more important things at hand.
  2. You have to be in the tank commander's position to give orders to attached units. It doesn't work (at least not for me) when you switch from the driver's position to map mode.
  3. Yes, you are right, I'm writing from Düsseldorf, Germany. Unfortunately I don't know of other German players or SBPPE Squads. I would be glad to try the multiplayer mode, but I won't have enough time to get part of a virtual squad with frequent online sessions. But I'm pretty sure that at least a few SBPPE squads are out there, because part of the dev team and the beta test crew work from Germany. You might contact them in the SB forum.
  4. I got my version of SBPPE yesterday. I played the predecessor (Steal Beasts Gold) several times and knew what to expect. SBPPE is worth any penny IMHO, but it's a different piece of software then T72. SBPPE is used by the military forces of several countries as a tactical simulator. So it is complex! The learning curve is steep and if one hasn't used the SB1 before, one should play the tutorials step by step. It's time consuming, but when you have mastered the controls, you'll never want to go back! In one word: it's awesome! Now the downsides: There's no campaign, no "game", the graphics are well done, but not as good as in T72. It's challenging, but if you are serious in learning the in and out of modern tank warfare, there's no alternative!
  5. You could try Fraps. It should be possible to make a videofile with it.
  6. Hmm, I tried again for a while and it seems that you'll have to be in the TC position (F7) to give movement orders on the map to attached units. (I normally start in the drivers position and don't switch to TC at the beginning of a mission.) Now it worked exactly like you said ... good to know!
  7. No joy - I just tried like you said: F11, waypoint and go. It seems as if the two tanks wait a while (up to 10 minutes) before they start moving. Too bad that I'm not patient enough to wait beside them ... Good idea about the missiles, though! They come in handy when fighting against a target, that is otherwise too far away for a precise first shot. BTW, the canyon map is IMHO one of the best areas I saw so far in the game. I really like driving over this huge mountains ...! [ February 13, 2006, 01:06 PM: Message edited by: Argus ]
  8. Hi all, I've tried again and again to solve the "Canyon" mission of the campaign. After several hours it was a success at least, but only because one of my wingmen shot all Leos. Any hints how to solve this mission without help? 1) I tried hiding in the hills - the enemy killed my tank many times, due to their stand off capability. 2) Another time I stayed down low and dug my tank in, but when all three enemy tanks approached my position simultaneously, I was nailed again. 3) I even tried to attack the enemy at full speed head on... no need to tell you, that I got toasted again. BTW, how do I give movement orders to other tanks of my platoon? There are two T-72 under my command, but I can't order them to move along with my tank? After a while (10-15 minutes?) they left their initial positions and follwed me, but most of the time I was already dead (see no. 2 above)
  9. For a minute I thought about learning Russian, but then again ... nah, takes too long ... Maybe in a few years we'll get synthezized real time audio translations
  10. LOL - something like that must have happened! You're propably right
  11. Don't know if it helps, but have you tried to hit Ctrl+W again and/or to switch between stations (F5, F6 and F7)?
  12. I use mouse and keyboard to control the sim, but I have difficulties to use the external camera: pressing the num keys results in a very imprecise response. The camera rotation or zoom for e.g. don't stop when I release a key. Instead the camera moves on for a while. The controls seem also a bit slow - is there a way to improve the responsiveness of the controls? Should I disable the default "Joystick control" in the config file? Any other ideas/suggestions?
  13. Challenging mission - indeed. I just finished it after many, many fruitless tries. I missed a save game feature (for full version, not demo), so that I could skip the meeting with the informants - but beside that, it was lots of fun! SPOILER . . . My tactic was to speed 90 degrees to the east, after meeting with the scouts. Driving as fast as possible, until I reached a mountain, from which I could overwatch the village, the escape route of the jeep and the approaching T-55. It's an ideal position, but nevertheless my tank limped home, after I tried to knock out all enemy armor. I doubt that my tank would've taken one more hit ... BTW, I finished a damaged T-34 with the AA gun on my way to the checkpoint to end the mission (distance approx. 500 meters/all other ammo were out); hit it several times in the front arc - is that realistic? I thought the armour should have protected it against smaller bullets?
