If France and Russia had firmly supported the UN sanctions and backed the ultimatum to Saddam perhaps the invasion of Iraq never would have taken place. It would not have angered most arab countries to have seen Saddam displaced.

France's appeasement of the Arabs won't work forever. Wait until the muslims reach a majority in France. It won't be long. They are getting closer in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Same old dead horse. Bush/neocons/et al didn't want sanctions or embargo. Nothing short of full pledged invasion would be satisfactory, all others be damned. Which they got in the end. France rightfully retained the right to say "I told you so".

So pick those who want them to lose as the winners, including exiles and internal libs and also internal displaced leaders like Montazeri, and pick the RG group as the faction that loses, and no balancing. Means used - not a 5 year occupation but SF, arming populace, subsidies, agents, return of exiles currently in US, all of them with the USAF at their beck and call. Spend one year breaking all the RG toys and any of them that want to come out, active CI not security. Dismantle the nuke program in the same period.

Worst that happens is the RG tries to take the place back in a civil war, in which the USAF intervenes with impunity whenever they get large. Doesn't result in any nukes. Does result in no sanctuary, and reduced threat to all of Iran's clients around the region.

    ....

To say that some Iranians will ally with The Great Satan , organize themselves into a meaningful army, and start and fight a bloody and protracted civil war, so that their daughters can wear skimpier clothing in public, is too much of a stretch.

Would love to get this clarified. Im on the

verge of ordering a new desktop (mostly for

CMSF) and am on the fence about getting Vista.

If you are getting a new computer, get Vista. Existing system, don't get Vista. I purchased a desktop from Dell in Feb, right after the Vista launch. Popped in a new 8800GTS and only game not working is CMx1 which I always had problems with on certain nVidia drivers.

Although if you're *only* getting a new computer to run CMSF, have some XP disks handy.

    My opinion anyway... </font>

Perhaps I didn't correctly understand what you wrote but did you say that a TOW ATGM impacting on the ground near a fully functional T-72 caused it to explode?

This seems a bit strange (at least).

The TOW I described basically landed under the front of the tank instead of hitting the front hull. It has a large warhead, and Im guessing the blast was enough to rupture the underbelly of the tank. The thing about the T-72 is that its ammo is held in an unprotected autoloader situated below the turret in the hull. Any penetration of a T-72 risks detonating this ammo, but particually so if its the hull thats penetrated. It was one of those cool CM moments that I probably wont see for another 100 games, hehe.

This is why ERA can be a life saver against these things. Usually a TOW will pack enough punch to still penetrate a T-72 covered with the older kontakt ERA, but even if it does it will do far less damage. </font>

First the hard part, you create an infantry force willing to fight and die, and make the training national so you can call up plenty of reserves. So you are conscripting.

Your elites are not silly useless commandoes, but sapper formations good at emplacing explosives and mines, especially against armor.

The you equip you infantry with:

    - Mortar-delivered nerve gas.

    - 7.62mm assault rifle and make AP ammo standard

    - Sa-14 issued down to infantry platoon.

    - .50 MG issued down to infantry company.

    - .50 single-shot snipe rifle issued down to platoon.

    - RPG-14 issued down to infantry squad.

    - AT-14 issued down to infantry company

Copious amounts of low-metal shoebox mines.

If you have extra cash left over then you plunk out for guided missles.

If you have a coast then it's small boats + Exocet or the Russian analogue.

    Infrastructure things that will help:

    - Communications using wire, motorcycle runners, semaphore, or some other way of talking without transmitting.

    - Populace is armed ahead of time

    - Populace is educated to high school standard.

    - Polulace moves around the same way as your infantry, be it vehicles, camels, foot, whatever. Because the sattelites can't tell the difference.

Do all that, and it would not be fun at all for a NATO-type force to invade you. But as noted, the starting point is a national army capable of rapid expansion of resonably capable infantry formations in case of an invasion.

Good points, but an armed and trained population is the nightmare of every dictator. A democratic third world country might pull it off, though.

    What downed F-15s?

Vs a KE round the plates are moving and and the shearing force(since the odds of a 0 degree hit are next to nil)snaps or redirects the KE round

    now my question would be

Could a Bradley fire it's 25mm chain gun to scrub off the ERA so it's TOW could have a chance at at a penatration or teamworked with an M1 and it's 105 or 120mm gun

I'm figuring that the 25 is going to have to go full auto for 3 to 5 seconds to do a good scrub job

If you are willing to trade a Bradley for a T55/T62/T72, that is. The Bradley is better off firing salvos of TOWs rather than pinging the tank.

I've got it, we get a headwrapped middle eastern man to make a video of him talking to the camera, telling us how, he and his group of terrorists use it to realisticaly train to fight and kill Americans.

Then we get him to post it on YouTube, Google Video, Liveleak and Metacafe. After that, we just wait for the media to go nuts, saying its a terrorist training tool and then Jack Thompson would come and say how its realistic depiction of war is corrupting our youth.

BFC would have more advertisement and sales than they could handle. :D

LOL, that would do the trick :D
