I have a few small scale scenario ideas taken from a book on the Audklärungs Batallion from the Nordland Division. Could perhaps use master maps provided, for sure the Berlin ones.
No primises though

Just a heads up for BFC, the order of news is messed up, with news about the engine patch above the Fire & Rubble announcement. Would be a pity if people miss out on the module just because it's too far down.

Both my wife's and my oldest son's birthday is March 11. Come, let's get 'er done for them! It's 3 days earlier...we can all get behind that, yes?
My birthday in June 24th so I suggest we delay it until then

Ouch, that would hurt everybody living near Fulda...
The main difference: The landscape near Berlin and towards the east is pretty flat, around Fulda it is pretty hilly. That's why the Fulda Gap was the most likely approach way...
In terms of vegetation: Around Berlin the soil is quite sandy, so you would mostly see open woods with birch trees. They don't have that near Fulda.
But I agree, if you see it from a distance, it may look not too different.
I had to take a look at an old map and realized that I had completely forgotten how far west the East Germany to West Germany border was in some areas.
Live and learn...

Nope, this would be something like 200km to the west of Berlin. More the the „next“ FB module, after Huertgenwald and Aachen.
Yeah, I know, but the type of landscape isn't that different and type of trees etc.

@Bil HardenbergerEight year project - now that's what I call dedication. So I assume a lot of love and tender care has gone into the project and the rest of us can enjoy the ride. Much appreciated!
I'm not sure if my eyes deceive me, but is the movie mode less desaturated than in the WWII titles? Can't say I have ever tried it in the modern titles. I also like a little less saturated look to the games but makes the setting on my monitor. Ideally the movie mode could be set in incremental steps.

OK, thought it might be a change in scope as I would imagine the size of an invasion would include a lot of air assets.
-
Seeing the long list of air assets on both sides, will the game support them fighting each other and not only ground to air?
-
Lovely retro style. Clever way of hiding alpha textures ?
Release the hordes....

At least now we KNOW why the Fire and Rubble module isn't ready yet.
But happy with CM Cold War. Was hoping for that for years.
Isn't the geographical area similar to that of F&R? It would then make sense to develop it in tandem with the module.

I might have to get into Flashpoint Campaigns again to get in the mood for CMCW.

Can't remember what have been said about the Steam releases, do BFC get less of a cut from sales on Steam than here? The Steam page is supposed to go live later today so make sure to "follow" to create buzz in the Steam algorithm.

Strange that we must get that news from Wargamer. This still is the CM forum, isn't it?
Probably because it is a forum and not a news outlet. Bet Slitherine PR people had a say in it. Will definitely check the live stream today with gameplay (link above from @DerKommissar).

We almost named it the same
Wouldn't mind taking this for a spin in CM: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stridsvagn_103

First module...
- Swedish forces
(or maybe not...)
Yes, "Northern Storm" - Soviet invasion through northern Finland, into Sweden and on to NATO Norway.

Well, the Fire and Rubble module isn't out yet. You can start QBs already in weather conditions not in the game and they come up as black, for example snow. And in a timeframe/location that will be in the module. But things look off and probably don't work well.

I've seen that before for other types of mortars. Engine quirk rather than bug?

The next project which has been announced is not CM3. I've never seen them mention CM3 anywhere.
There still working and expanding on their series of games. In fact. Your question is pretty redundant as they keep updating the engine rather than release a new title. So we're on like cm4 .
I know that full well, just wishful thinking. However, my pet theory is that they are working on the next engine behind the scenes already.

Why not just wait till it's released ?
Genuinely puzzled why people do this.
To put money in the hands of BFC as soon as possible so that they can assess how to pool resources for the next project. CM3?

For you there is. The 4.0 Upgrade Big Bundle link will link you to the full game installers for everything except for CMSF2. (Your order number 310297)
Using that link you will notice 4 downloads links for each game. 2 Mac and 2 Windows. And for each operating system 1 for the Upgrade only and 1 for the full game installer. So, when you go to re-install the games the only link that you need is your order number 310297 link. Then download only the full installer for each game. All of those will install the games up to the most recent patch available. If you have all 5 games, 1 download and 1 thing to install for each game. Not quite as simple as Steam but close.
Great, is it new? Can't remember seeing this before. Last time I checked was when R2V was released. But it could be clearer stated I guess. Just seeing a list of numbers in a long list of orders it doesn't exactly make it stand out. Main thing it is there. Now I only have to remember that number
I don't mind entering keys to activate the games that much though.
F&R pre-ordered, yay

The convoluted step by step installation process has been gone since the 4.0 Upgrade was released (and 3.0 with CMBN). If you ever need to install the game always use the 4.0 full game installers. They will install everything in a single download and installation right up to the latest patch.
I wish there was a direct link to full game downloads in my account for all my games/modules/updates. As it is now, there are only links for my incremental purchases. Maybe a new page for my account with all the full downloads with the associated keys stated next to them.
The nice thing with Steam is that once a game is in your account you only have to do one thing, click install and no worries about keeping track of keys. When I get my new rig (March) I will probably start migrating to Steam when the games get there.

There are some other important things, like not getting only 1 stick of RAM (always choose at least 2; so for example 2x8).
[snip]Please enlighten me - I have a new custom built rig arriving in March and have tried to max it for CM as well as other stuff and it has two sticks of 16GB - in which way would it make a difference to just having one stick of 32GB (if possible)?

Playing one of the "In the Shadow of the hill" battles yesterday. I had an Engineer Team take out a Tiger. They began the turn with 2 Satchel charges and 6 Grenades, and ended the turn with exactly the same amount. So they must also have had some kind of Grenade bundles that do not show up in their ammo count. It was great fun watching them lob them over the hedge followed by flames coming out the bloated kitty.
I think all grenades and demo charges used during the turn is deducted at the start of the turn. So no invisible grenade bundles I think.
I bet it was satisfying taking out the Tiger. Was it a planned assault or did they act on their own accord?

In the reference notes to the JTS France 40 game (usually very well researched) they mention two volumes of "Fall Gelb" from Doug Dildy (Osprey). Seems interesting but why two volumes with less than a hundred pages and each about 13 Euro. Got very good reviews though.

Yes, it was the formation with the most Swedish volunteers in the Axis (German, not sure about Finnish) side. I figured I would make scenario(s) in which I can punish them in a digital form for volunteering.
