  1. There too many subtle nuances which are lost if you don't know all the rules. I definitely need one.
  2. Finally, the iPad has a real tactical simulator, not toy stuff.
  3. And, what do the colors on the LOS pointer signify?!
  4. I don't understand what this is for with its up or down arrow. Is this the "hide" order someone mentioned?
  5. Exactly and succinctly what is the matter with this promising item. I bought it and I am appalled at the product.
  6. As I explained in my first post, it skips from, for example, page two on the bottom control (which is pages 4 and 5 in the manual) to page four on the bottom control (thus, you lose pages 6 and 7 of the manual). So the online manual is worthless. I am not inclined to buy this game without having played it thoroughly because of the trouble I had with THEATRE OF WAR when I bought it right after it was released, and the big flop I find your PT Boat game to be.
  7. have you noticed that every other page will not appear for viewing (3, 5, etc.---the pages as listed in the center, up/down arrow box), i.e., the manual is of no use! I like the game but I do need a manual.
  8. Many thanks, S. I love this game but I am very annoyed it was not released in a competed state.
  9. And a decent Quick Mission Generator would be much appreciated. Something like "Destroyer Command" had.
  10. In the simulator mode, I accidentally turned off the radar/control panel on the left bottom of the screen. I can't find any button for doing this and there are times I would like it out of the way. Does anybody know how to turn it off/on?
  11. Is this due for release soon? What is it? I can't get enough of this design.
  12. Cancel this. Must have been a temporary glitch because I just directed my 40mm pom-pom gunners to reduce four S-Boats to matchsticks! This was in single player.
  13. What am I doing wrong with the big Fairmile gunboat? When I attempt to mark a target for my gunners, I get the indicator the target is marked, but the gunners do not fire. They don't even fire if the boat is receiving fire from S-Boats.

    Torpedo sight

Thank you very much, Croy. Procedure now clear as glass.

    Torpedo sight

I understand you have to be on the bridge (press 4) and you need to press 4 again to have the sight presented. What I do not understand is how to get yourself in position to look down the sight to mark a target. Please help. Thank you.
  16. I forgot about having to unlicense before uninstalling. Now TOW will not play. Is there a way to fix this?
  17. Well, I have the download version ready to go, and am learning the mechanics. Have to admit I like it so far. I am very happy to have the 1940 French!
  18. Well, he said fatalistically, if this one bites the dust there is always the upcoming STEEL BEASTS 2, and a band of Russians modded OPERATION FLASHPOINT into a WWII East Front tank, gun, and infantry simulator---see: "Liberation 1941-1945": http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?special=articles/mods.html#12
  19. I side with gunnersman, Moon and Freya. I played T-72 constantly right after it was released. Ran into some glitches, and I dropped it. I decided to get PANZER ELITE fully modded up, and I got Ostpak running, and used it constantly for nearly two months. I prefer T-34s to T-72s, and this was the primary reason I stuck with that buggy mess for so long. I think Battlefront ought to get those Russians to get busy cranking out KURSK. I am a little perplexed by the Yugoslav-centered sim, but here it is, and what we have is truly the finest tank sim we have to date for the general public. When I first started using T-72, I was getting an enormous kick just from driving the T-72 all over the countryside. When the T-72 tipped into an antitank ditch (I didn't realize they were SO deep!), I was tickled pink---great authenticity. The big firefight scenario blew my mind: sparks flew from non-penetrating hits on my own T-72, clouds of dust and smoke each time the 120 fired, and dust "smoke screens" when I reversed at high speed (a great way to get out of Dodge fast)---this sim was "immersion" personified. PE Ostpak is not even remotely in the same class with T-72. I recently played an Ostpak-enabled scenario of PE with a platoon of Shermans. They were in line and two Tiger Is ambushed us from the left flank from undulating terrain (that's how they got so close). The range quickly fell to about 50 yards. One of my Shermans changed position by moving right across the front of the cats with its flank exposed at about 25 yards---and lived! I was able to completely change the facing of my platoon under fire by the Tigs, and my own Sherman was hit repeatedly by 88 rounds at about 50 yards range! After about five minutes BOTH Tigers blew up at once---not one of my Shermans was destroyed or damaged! When I and another player noted a number of ludicrous events such as the above on the PE Boards, the chief modder's response was that all were perceptual problems! T-72 has its quirks, but, at least the physics seems to be as good as it gets, and the designer did candidly admit the physics are not real world. I welcome T-72 as, I hope, the leading edge of a new era of armor games. It is the only mass-market armor sim which does for tanks what Il-2 did for WWII aircraft. 20. Jeff---Follow the instructions above in my long entry, and you should be successful. Yes, you can set different waypoints for each tank under your control. The game is buggy and sometimes the tanks wander off. Keep an eye on them by regularly looking at the map, or by following them on the game screen. When ordering vehicles individually, I found you had to give the SPEED order BEFORE the WAYPOINT order for the orders system to work.
  21. Haven't a clue what happened, Moon, and, for all I know, the time of the breakdown might have been random. I did my usual Search for all game programs and trashed them individually. Can't use any uninstaller because they are all gone. Tried clicking on the "X" many times with no success. Tried to find the Battlefront folder, but Search declared: "...not a valid folder". Found many T-72 folders scattered in My Documents and in Shortcut to Program Files---trashed them, but, without a list of all the T-72 folders, there might be some still in those places which I couldn't identify. WHAT A MESS. Still can't reinstall. T-72 was getting more and more buggy as I played it. Driver refusing orders common. Friendly controllable tanks wandering off.
  22. I have never had a game refuse to reinstall before---this is dire.
  23. Strongly suggest: THE HEIGHTS OF COURAGE by Avigdor Kahalani---you can get it from Amazon in paperback. Not a novel but the greatest account ever written of armored warfare to date. He commanded a battalion of Centurions on the Golan Heights in October 1973. Brilliantly written and will have you sweating until the terrifying climax. Excellent source for classic Soviet armor tactics. PANZER ACES is the best tactical manual for operating an armored vehicle in print. Speed Maneuver and Surprise --- the extraordinary success of using these methods is illustrated over and over. [ July 23, 2005, 01:45 PM: Message edited by: tankski ]
