  1. The Pentagon threw a LOT of money at IED solutions while we were in Iraq. I wouldn't say the didn't get anything out of it, but they were distinctly short of miracles. That is why we have an approximate infinity of MRAPS to give the Ukrainians.
  2. Well the AFU General Staff is rather good at this after all. A lot to be said for having a water obstacle on both sides of your advance.
  3. Some good maps here, especially of the minor water ways.
  4. I would have sworn your post took me this vid, but maybe I just got that wrong.
  5. That was a LONG shot. edit: Did the original video get substituted somehow? Twitter get more broken by the day.
  6. Thank you filling the details, so it his mission in life to follow in Tucker's foot steps.
  7. I am sure he is a terrible problem for sane education policy in the state of Virginia, but that is about the limit of his ability to bleep things up.
  8. He is a STATE senator, every U.S. state has its own mini Senate and House that comprise the legislative branch of the state government. He, barely, mentions that he is in the Virginia Senate. There are very approximately 2000 state senators if you add up the fifty states, and they have zero say in foreign policy. That is If he is a real person, and I honestly can't be bothered to check. Some parts of rural Virginia voted for Trump by 70 or eighty percent even as the state as whole went for Biden. I grew up in an adjacent part of Tennessee, that did the same thing. The average elected official there these days seems to think 1857 was great year. It STILL 1857 in Russia, and some of them are wacky enough to think that is a good thing. Apologies Steve is this is to much politics. Heck, even the Confederacy never resorted to forcing troops to fight with guns at their backs.
  9. You say that it is necessary to chose one or the other when it is so obviously both. Putin has bought and paid for his wing of his party.
  10. The Moscow elite has learned what the utter lack of hope the regional people have always felt is like.
  11. This whole war happened because of unclear communication, and Putin thought he could get away with it. The red line around that nuke plant needs to be visible from nearby star systems.
  12. It is a classic case of an institution that doesn't matter, until it does.
  13. I would give decent odds that the Poles would suit Up every soldier they can find a MOPP suit for and send then east as fast as they possibly could. Edit: If I may attempt the to channel The_Capt, the best course of action would be to offer the commander at the plant a stupendous bribe, and be very industrious about getting his family out of Russia.
  14. What Orwell understood, and and how early he understood it is truly breathtaking. Above article is a nice little starter on her, she is quite special. Her standard rant has about a quarter of degree of separation from Tucker at his worst.
  15. Biden needs to make VERY clear that if they blow the plant every NATO plane in Europe joins the war in about two hours, and they are going to do their level best to kill every Russian soldier in Ukraine. The next stupidity gets the entire Russian navy sunk.
  16. The crazy Irish woman who carries water for Putin must have lost her mind.
  17. I ranted about it on twitter until they kicked me off. What I think should happen to every upper level person in the Russian government is unprintable, And I think NATO's air force should be committed to this war. Neither seems in the cards, so I just try stay in the lanes Steve has set out.The stated goal here is more analytic, so I try to comply. This is literally the best place on the internet to keep track of what is going on, unless you have access to classified data. The three things you can do that matter the most are write your Congressperson, send a little money, and support Ukraine on your social media of choice.
  18. Because what Russia needs is Ukraine getting 500 Abrams, and NATO's air force showing up for a long weekend to shatter what is left of the Russian army. I mean I think that needs to happen, but I really doubt anyone in Russia does. There may be one or two coup plotters who are hoping for the worst possible defeat, but that is about it. Ukraine has beaten the Russian army to a pulp, from a starting point that is far less than ideal. NATO should be aspiring to THEIR standards. Sadly I agree that there has to some semblance of peace first.
  19. I think Putin's math neglects to mention that most of the recidivism reduction is due the vast percentage of them that wind up KIA. I would say KIA or badly wounded but I don't think many badly wounded convicts survive, unless they are lucky enough to get captured by the Ukrainians. Edit: Today's whole ISW write up is worth your time.
  20. Sorry it comes out hard to read on the board, 51 Oryx confirmed Russian vehicle losses in 24 hours. I rather like the line with 8 tanks to blown up to further identify.
  21. The_Capt's little shop of horrors is moving right along.
  22. Well, you have to applaud the Ukrainian mortar crews for excellent work.
  23. How many guns did they lose figuring they had a problem?
  24. Seems like a target worth another five or ten rounds.
