  1. 2nd SCR is in Vilseck.

Google 2nd SCR and a few HQUSAREUR and Stars and Stripes articles pop up.

Looks like they are operating in Baghdad.

The 1BCT-25ID to 2SCR thing was, IIRC, only for a few months until the Regiment stood up in Vilseck.

I know a few 19D scout NCO's from Knox that PCS'd to Vilseck to form the initial cadre for the Regiment.

    Toujuors Pret

  2. The .50cal on an M1A1 can be fired for both inside (electronically) and outside (manually).

The optics for the weapon are inside.

The optics are prone to fogging, breaking or becoming mis-aligned (losing boresight). They can be a real pain in the ass sometimes.

The electronic trigger mechanism is also prone to breaking.

Sometimes it is better to just start firing the weapon and adjust manually then it is to get inside and attempt to aim with blurry optics.

Depends on the target and situation.

Many times I had to fire the .50cal manually in gunnery, but made damn sure I had a working one in Iraq.

A very good friend of mine was with 3-69AR, 3ID in OIF, his sights broke in the first few hours of the push north and he fought most of the war outside the hatch, firing manually (even using his hand to press the "butterfly" trigger).

Point of all this is to say, **** happens.

Reality is very different then what is written in all those fancy books.

    I'm glad BFC understands that.

  3. An airdrop of the 173rd Airborne Brigade secured Bashur airfield near Kirkuk in OIF.

A company of M1's from 1ID was airlifted in over the next few days.

A Ranger unit airdropped into an airfield in western Iraq.

    From globalsecurity.com

"The US Army's 75th Ranger Regiment captured H1 airfield in a night-time parachute assault on 25 March 2003"

Also a team of M1's was airlifted to help the Rangers.

Look for: JSOTF-West and TEAM Tank

  4. Links to wikipedia:

    US Army Officer

    US Army Enlisted

One thing I would like to see corrected:

In a US Platoon the second in command is the Platoon Sergeant (PSG).

The game has the PSG listed as "XO" (executive officer) in the Squad List.

XO is the correct 2ndIC for Company level and above but not for platoons. (I'm sure BFC knows all this)

(Another tip for scenario makers, the PSG is, usually, in the 4th tank.

    A platoon would be something like: 1st Platoon HQ(LT), 2nd Tank(NCO), 3rd Tank(NCO), 4th Tank(PSG)

  5. The problem was the show's creators/producers etc. must have no idea what is actually going on "over there".

There are enough real storylines, plots, emotions, etc.. from Iraq to make a decade worth of episodes.

But they used old plots/storylines and the worst cliches that have nothing at all to do with Iraq.

Even the title "Over There" is old (WW1) lingo.

Today we would say "Down Range" when trying to say "in Iraq".

The show really pissed me off because it could have been good, it had a lot of potential.

  6. Over There is like a bad Oliver Stone script set in Iraq.

The story lines had nothing to do with Iraq and seemed like old, re-hashed, Vietnam era plots in a middle east country with US troops.

I had high hopes for it and ended up being very disappointed.

Every OIF Vet I talked to about it stopped watching after the second episode.

That is what an "upgrade" is. If the new textures are better then old textures it is an "upgrade".

What is your definition of a graphics upgrade?

  8. Looks like a good idea.

    Some things to note:

The roofs over there usually have a normal sized door. It is either at the bottom of the stairway which leads to up to the roof, or it is at the top.

Alot of families use the roof like a backyard. They cook on it, hang laundry, etc..

Not knocking the pic, I know it is just used as an example.

I wanted to share some info on the roofs I've seen.

    Re Satelite dishes.

When we first got to Baghdad in 2003 there were no dishes on the roof tops. By that winter almost every roof had 2-3.

    I guess that's freedom.

  9. Posted in another thread.

    Battlefront.com

The game is too new, the bugs not quite ironed out yet, so we'll have that discussion later on when people aren't so reactionary and aren't confused by technical issues that exist today but won't tomorrow.

Does it mean we are less then 24hrs from patch? :D
  10. The thing about driving the Abrams is the very, very touchy brakes. It takes some practice to get used to slowy applying brake pressure.

Too much and the brakes will literally lock and all 70 tons will stop dead, the nose pitches down and the rear bucks up like a wild bull. It don't skid like a car :D

Once you get used to the brakes it's a smooth ride with all the power you could ever ask for.
