  1. By the sound of it the Russian version does not have very historical campaigns.

    Can you advise is their anything other than localisation and a few bug fixes the battlefront version will have?

    Also I think it has been asked but will their be a mission editor?

    Is this game using the il2 engine?

    What is the worst sea conditions you have seen- rolling waves that boats cannot see over?

    This is something I have not seen in a game yet - but with rescues etc that these boats carried out sometimes it would be normal.

  2. I am greatly enjoying mucking around with the old Russian demo which is a pleasure to play.

    Three missions in total including a tutorial. The graphics are glorious as is the smoothness of play. Damn the torpedoes here I come!

    Thanks to Some-guy.

    This demo is really really nice.

    "There is an older playable demo. It is Russian.

    Here is a link:

    http://ru.akella.com/Game.aspx?id=121&mode=demos

    Click on this for the file: Морской охотник Демо (1,2 Гб)

    To get the program to install you will need to rename the file after you save it as most US systems do not support cyrillic characters. I renamed mine to demo.exe and then executed it to install the software.

    To make the in-game options in the GUI display in English to know what graphic and realism options settings are you must change a file.

    Find Start.ini in your X:\Program Files\Akella Games\Ìîðñêîé Îõîòíèê folder. Erase what is in there and replace it with the following:

    <root>

    <locale>EN</locale>

    <menu_mission_holder>menu</menu_mission_holder>

    <play_intro val="1"/>

    </root>

    The game will still be in Russain but at least you can see what the settings are.

    Also, your crew will not fire their guns in the first (tutorial) mission on their own but they do in all other missions.

    Please remember this is an older demo released a number of months before Battlefront got involved.

    I hope that helps."

    make sure after you have noted the settings that u change back to Russian or you will see no missions and pressing start will crash the game!

  3. I remember some holiday special comic book with a story about an english pt boat flying a dragon penant because it came from policing chinese waters smugglers.

    Then it entered a port in the invasion of dutch by germans in ww2 at the risk of the neutral country finding them out. They were looking for a german merchant in diguise or something

    Anyone remember it? I cannot remember the name?

  4. ok my bad..... it was just the settings you gave also dictate an invalid path to the mission files. I used those settings to get used to the menu interface and then ditched them for the russian ones so the demo would start.

  5. hmmm demo does not want to run under my win7 64 ultimate install. Get to the start campaign button and to the start button there, but seems no mission is chosen and the start button just crashes things. May have to try virtual XP mode in win 7.... but that will still be virtual 64 XP iirc......

    this is the first game not to work, but i understand its an old demo

  6. actually I have not had time to read any of it yet sorry.

    I did read a comic called PTboat or some such when i was a kid. Prolly have it somewhere still. The captain in that went everywhere. From chinese waters to europe in flames.

    And an australian tv series called patrol boat..

  7. I disagree.... swarms of torpedo boats with 2-4 torps each.... it only takes 3-4 torps to kill a capital warship.

    How about - how many battleships were taken out by carrier aircraft alone.... same weaponry different playform... smaller size.

    In the med especially I think the manchester is a good example of potential for the torpedo boat to pull one out of the bag.

    Submarines/torpedoe bombers etc do have a distinct advantage as a strike platform. The PT boat is just as exciting for me though. Its like a race car with torpedos strapped to it. And the best part about it is that its often sent off on its own with the small crew... its a great platform for individualist tight knit crews.
