  1. i second that. i just tried letting the computer buy my units, and it made some odd choices, but i got to try some stuff i would not have bought ordinarily. i was reading this old thread because i was looking for a way to save QB maps if i like it, and use it again. its always a crap shoot what sort of terain u will get, and as an earlier poster said, it would be nice to know the map a bit first, so i would not buy useless stuff. some indication if the enemy has air support would be nice too. i dont want to always buy some AA unit just because maybe...

  2. it has usually been my experience that tanks are a poor choice when you want to fight other tanks. in fact, i dont think that is what they were made for. they dont have alot of ammo, so they are not very good at fighting infantry either. i dont think they are very useful at all. i usually don't requisition any. maybe one. if you really want to defeat the enemy's tanks, buy some AT guns, wait till you can read the unit markings, then blow him up. then, when you advance your infantry, move your one tank, or several crappy tanks, up with the infantry. it will scare the hell out of his men, and they will run away, which is a perfect opportunity for you to machine gun him in the back, like the rotten pigs they are.

  3. i've actually never played with any italian troops, but i have heard the english officers saying things like conserve your ammo, pick your targets...fire disipline type of orders. i would take that to mean they are running low on ammo. i usually play as the germans, and i speak pretty good german as well, and i usually only here them say things like 'lets go', 'fire', and sometimes under fire, i think i can here them say, 'that stiener has really buggered us now, can i get a transfer out of his Kampfgruppe?'

  4. "If you mean that you didn't get prompted that something was being copied over, that is the tell-tale symptom that the bmp file number of the mod does not match the bmp file number of the original. If there is no match in the file number, nothing will change."

before i put the un-zipped files into the BMP folder, there was nothing there. thats what i mean when i say i think there was no original files. so there was nothing to write over. its like we are playing totaly seperate games, which is why im writing this. i didnt forget to unzip it or some other stupid thing. I used to be a network engineer, so computer stuff is easy, but this makes me scratch my head.

  5. What vehicles do you like to buy? I used to buy trucks cause they were cheap, but i have found the sdkfz 7 gun tractor to be much better if there does not happen to be a convenient road. Even if there is a road, the tracked mobility can lead to a suprise appearance over a hill, or in an unexpected area. the gun tractor also has a higher capacity. some of you will say the half-tracks have a machine gun, but for the additional cost, I dont find them as useful. Primarily I use the vehicles to add mobility to HMG or mortar units, as well as for unit leaders.

so what about the rest of you?

  6. I just played a few different games using 105, or 150 IG's, and I was quite pleased with the results. I was a little suprised by the size of the explosion a gun like that produces, and it was easily able to knock out any smaller AFV's (even with only a nearby impact) and did not a bad job with anything bigger. what was left was no trouble for a couple my tanks to take care of. In another battle, one such gun accounted for well over 100 enemy infantry casualties as well. despite its slower rate of fire, it more than made up for it with a higher ammo load, and sheer destruction. I have made a new freind.

Do any of you like to use bigger guns, or are you more into precision munition dispersal. personally, i think i like to see alot of running and sreaming and burning across the field.

  7. This is a pretty foggy area, and i only comment with my gut reaction, but i think most soldiers actually try to hit their intended targets, but conversely, there are also alot of examples of how soldiers were ordered to provide covering fire.

your average machine gunner sprays alot of bullets, but im sure he knows a relatively small percentage of those slugs will enter flesh, or knock out vehicles.

this is alot different than firing above a target because you are afraid to kill, or do not intend harm.
