  1. i just finished a meeting engagement, 1000 points, jerry vs the schweinhundt amerikans. during the last few minutes of the fight, the americans still had a sherman tank, in a field, immobile, but still harassing my MG positions. I still had a pzr IVF, that came in on his flank, and was encouraging his inf to go play somewhere else. once the infantry was properly encouraged, and they were seeking their entertainment elsewhere, i decided to move up to the building that was blocking the sherman from firing at me. this is the stupid part. i targeted the sherman, and moved up close to the building to get a shot around it...but as i approached, my tank decided to shoot at something on his 3 oclock, turned his turet, and then was turning the body of his tank, and wack! the sherman pops me. whats wrong with him, he was told to target the sherman! i still won, but i wanted to get that tank out of there. anyway, ill know better next time.

  2. it took me a couple of hours to sort out a battalion command structure. i had a pzr grenadier batt. with 4 companies...A,B,C, and D. A,B and C were all infantry, and D was other, or heavy weapons like AT guns and HMG's and mortars. i used A and C companies to run up the flanks, and held the town in the middle with B, supported by D. the HMG component of D rushed in first, using trucks, then the trucks went back to pick up the AT guns.

The whole plan went off flawlessly. by the time my infantry companies met up in the middle, i was out of MG ammo and mortar, and the remainder of the enemy was surrounded, and gave up easily. some units had as high as 30-40 kills!

i am relating this because i spent the time to sort out each exact units command structure, and kept (as close as possible) all units with their appropriate commanders. i too, didnt quite know what to do with the battalion commander, but the company commaders went with their companies and fought with them. i witnessed some spectacular feats of bravery and leadership. the whole company working together was quite formitable. the HMG's and inf holding the town did such a good job, the enemy rarely even got off a shot. in the end, he suffered 600 losses, and several hundred surrendered while hiding. i also noted after the battle, the remaining enemy units, battered and broken, were looking out at almost their entire officer corp, lying dead in front of them. no wonder ther surrendered when over a hundered jerries ran in from both sides.

fun was had by all, and sausages were served directly afterwards.

  3. Im a pretty big believer in a well placed AT gun being more than worth its cost. my stupid question today is, can i get the crew to drag it into a building to set it up? there is a nice building right where the road curves, and im pretty sure tommy is coming down that road, i want to welcome him properly. if anyone has some good AT gun tips, let me know. still pretty new to this game, and my only other AT gun experience was getting my 88 wacked before it was even set up (some kind of air strike, i heard them, but never saw them...straffing, i think). anyway, i have set up a QB with a battalion of mechanized SS vs Random, and they have attached 3 75's for me. my plan is to deploy some advanced HMG's via trucks, and if any of the trucks escape (survive), they will assist the remainder of D company to support that effort, while the main body of infantry deploys into position on foot. this plan was successful before, and resulted in a victory, but most of my trucks got destroyed by his AC's. the trucks all bunched up on the road, and before they could sort out who goes first, well, i think you can all envision a bunch of confused drivers coming under fire, there was fire and screaming and running, and my battalion was subsequently on foot.

anyway, any comments on this would be welcome.

i also have some questions about command units, unless there is another good thread about it. im a bit confused about how to best use the platoon leaders, company leaders, and battalion commander to their best advantage.

    thanks guys.

"Next time you face me, play like beheaded chickens. Intellectually, you already are, so there's no good reason why your play shouldn't reflect that."

perhaps that would improve my game. is that one of the orders i can give my troops? "meander hapahazardly and then get shot". i dont remember seeing that near run, or hunt. ill have another look.

  5. well, it may not be much to anyone here, but i actually got major victories in my last 3 games, which means i am actually getting the hang of this. i still have the odd spot of trouble with mortars, but things are looking up, it shouldnt be long before im playing real people. i have decided i dont like enemy AT guns punching holes in my tanks. it makes me sad.

  6. what's a kangaroo? perhaps the crew were smoking and some spilled fuel ignited. i think the rifle grenade is most likely, or maybe even some quad 20mm AA fire, and one missed. i wacked one of those guns on a german halftrack this morning, and i know they fire very rapidly. Jerry has alot of stuff it could have been. maybe a nebelwerfer, or some insideous mind control weapon made your sodier pull the pins out of their grenades.

  7. same thing happened to me. after a long hard fight, i managed to maul the british force, destroy all his vehicles, and route most of his forces, and close on the flag. after the last turn, the flag was a question mark, and i hit the button, to end it, and was shocked to see the union jack flying. i had 3 tanks, AC's and sundry troops in the vicinity, while he had nothing coherent left near the flag. i not impressed. must have been a whole platoon of the new invisible british tanks.

  9. hi guys!

im new to the forum here, and very new to cm in general. i have been reading the forum here for a week or so, so i have a pretty good idea who most of the regulars are. i just want to inroduce myself a bit, so you dont wonder who i am when u see me asking questions or replying to stuff here. some of you guys are obviously vets, and i have read some excellent and highly informative posts.

i am new to this game, and loving it. i am however a vetran of the close comabt series, and cc3 in particular. if anyone here is, or was, familiar with the gamezone, and played cc3 out there, you would most likely remember me, as i was quite a regular there, and held a consistent top 20 spot on the ladder.

i look forward to many glorious battles with some of you, so, game on dudes!

    chris
