  1. Comrade Trapp Thanks for your answer. You misunderstood me. Im not frustrated because Ive lost against my first games against human opponents. (Indeed I did not lose a game until now ) Im frustrated because I dont know if and how to continue. I would prefer PBEM games. Like Curry said this is the right way to play SC because it is a long game. There are not many people who have 20+ hours per week for a game. But now we have the Oak PBEM league and we have the Curry league. Both are very vague regarding rules and laws. What happened in Z-League should not happen. The Admin of the league changed the rules for challenges without asking his members and even against their wishes. What is needed for a long time motivating competition is some kind of democratic struture like a club where the members have well-defined rights before it comes to any changes.
  2. When I dicovered SC a few months ago and played some matches vs the AI I was quite enthusiastic. I convinced some friends to buy the game and started some PBEM as well as a couple of TCP/IP games. All these guys were new to the game as I was. Still I liked the game, but was a bit less enthusiastic because I realized how time consuming it is to play an human opponent, so that time for IP games is hard to find. Moreover I encountered the "reload problem" with PBEM. Its a basic fact that every strategy game needs some sort of sound competion to motivate for a longer time. So I was glad when I found the community here and started some games against more experienced opponents. I had another unpleasant surprise. You cannot win a game even with the best strategy when you dont know all these gamey tactics. The worst thing is this super carrier bug. Carriers can gain experience when shooting at land units while they never take damage themselves, though the land units has a good air defense. Well, with some house rules you could overcome the worst bugs, so I was still willing to go on with SC, but after reading the dispute between Zapp and Terif I surely dont want to join Zappleague. At this point Im quite frustrated and not sure if I should go on with SC or look for another game...
  3. Its a board game by Rampart Games. Units are corps, with Soviet armies and (a few) Axis divisions and "Kampfgruppen". Turns range from a week to a month, depending on the season. (Just like SC!) Here is a review: http://www.grognard.com/reviews/warmoth.txt I dont agree to all conclusions the author made, specially not that every game runs the same. Its possible for Germany to take AND hold Moscow while driving South, but we also had games the Germans did not came far more east than Kiev before the Russians organized their defense. Leningrad is much harder to take as in SC and quasi impossible if you want to take Moscow. PS. "Leichte Division" means light division.
  4. Very intersting thread. Good to see that in this community are several people with interest in history. A wargame that covers the east front well in my eyes is "War For The Motherland" by Masahiro Yamazaki. Anybody knows this game?
  5. Thanks, Terif for your answer. I just wonder if that is a real mistake in the Strat guide or I did get it wrong? Anyway it seems that the purchase and shipping of the 2nd HQ was a waste of money.
  6. One question for the experienced players: In the strategy guide (thanks to Bill and Dan) I read about building supply chains by linking up several HQs to create better supply at the front. I tried to do this in North Afrika with 2 Italian HQs one in the near of Tobruk (has supply value of 8 itself) and the 2nd near Alexandria. What I expected is the better supplied HQ will supply the 2nd but this does not seem to work. Can anybody please tell me how exactly these HQ supply things work?
  7. May I suggest the following ranking system: http://www.daak.de/rang/index.php3?sprache=e&order=rank&art=PBM (You can read the explanation when you click on "ranking formula"; ) It was worked out after some years of experience with other ranking systems and is working very well since a year now. Its especially "designed" for email games wich have a time frame from 2weeks to 2months. The formula is quite simple and can by calculated with Excel. The implementation of the "players experience" is optional and may or may not included In general this system allows newbies to advance quickly, but after a while climbing higher is getting harder and harder until you reach the top. Of course you dont need to take the military ranks and implement these Tier names that JerseyJohn introduced. BTW: I personally like these Tier names.
  8. Well, I dont know if my internet connection will allow for an IP game. Why do you think an IP game should quicken my learning curve? Only because it will end earlier? BTW: How much time does an average IP game take? (And how many turns is an SC game in general? I guess an human vs human game wont be played until one side fullfilled the victory conditions earlier, but surrendered long before in many games)
  9. Are there any real important differences between 1.07b and 1.07, i.e. do I have to download and install 1.07 final or can I stay with 1.07b wich is working fine on my computer??
  10. Thanks to JerseyJohn and Iron Ranger for responding. In the early days our A&A club we had problems with cheaters, too. We solved that mainly by disencouraging them, so I think your on the right way. As I said before Im playing my first 2 Email games. One is going slow but the other is really a blast. We did 30 turns in 4 days! I will probably lose that game but its really great fun anyway. SC is a very good game but the players community is making it a great thing. So I want to thank anyone who is contributing to this community, the creators of mods and this great strategy guide and especially anyone who organizes some kind of league or tournaments, since I know how much time and work such things take. Im in of course and I will ask some friends. I can play up to about 2-4 games at a time. When is this pbem league intended to start?
  11. Im quite new to the game but I would like to participate if Newbies are welcome. Im currently playing 2 (SC) email games against members of our German Axis&Allis online club. (We are playing the A&A game mostly per email so we are used to play several email games concurrently ) I think I can bring my 2 current opponents and perhaps some other players to this league. Im just doing a lot of advertisment for Strategic command. As for cheating: I thougt that the game will recognize it when someone reloads a saved game???
