  1. I just refreshed myself on what they were aiming for (first post by Steve).  Looks like they have met their targets for Steam releases, and patches I have seen come out during the year, though if these are all patches people were expecting I don't know.  Nothing at all on the packs as noted above.  Professional, I don't care, does not affect us other than delaying other things if it is ongoing, but they did state they would be putting that on hold (did they however?).  And as for Engine 5, it was not really clear, to me at least, what they were implying about that in terms of timing in their first post.

The German player has very little option on his set up , no option on the barbed wire at all, and my personal opinion in mirror games you should give the defender maximum flexibility and the largest setup zones so the American is totally is completely in the fog about the defender's position , much more fun to allow the German to choose his defense and not have it provided for him. The same exact reason "Dawn Patrol" was modified.

I totally agree.  Just paint a wide swath of real estate for the defender to set up as they see fit within.  Certainly not give hard-wired set up zones with trenches arranged like a trench set up.  Hard to surprise your opponent that way in a mirror match.

Only AMD drivers were converting the point incorrectly. They had put in a workaround for the issue and then AMD fixed their big and then the game did goofy things in certain situations. So, they took out the workaround (actually they made it optional, it might even still be in the option menu).

I will take a look in the options menu (if CMFI will let me finish my plotted turn!!).

But do note I also have observed this behaviour in CMCW with my NVidia graphics card at home.  On the large Grand Tournament Scenario.

Later added ...  Is it ATI Left Click Compatibility?  I just switched it from Off to On

  4. I built a new PC in the early summer.  And finally decided to do the Steam thing and so just loaded up all CM games via Steam on my new PC at home and my old PC which is now up at the cottage (Intel 3970K CPU with 64 GB RAM and using an older AMD 6970 GPU) - I took my GTX 980 and put it on the new machine (Intel i7-13700K with 64 GB RAM) because I just cannot fathom the insane GPU pricing that now exists, and frankly the 980 GTX has worked fine with CM)

Anyhow, I seem to have problems with CMFI (I have used all other CM games but not yet CMBS or CMFB).  Seems I have partial freeze-ups in the sense that, while I can move around views with the mouse, the game refuses to recognize mouse clicks or keyboard commands.  So I am stuck for a while only able to pan around with the mouse.  Eventually (after leaving it for a few minutes, mouse clicks and such are recognized for a short while by the game and then it happens again.

Which as you can imagine is somewhat frustrating.

Anyone else experience this?  Any ideas why it could be happening?  So far only on my cottage PC which as I noted above I pulled out the GTX 980 and put in an older AMD HD 6970.  Never had this issue when the cottage PC was my main unit with the GTX 980.  Cottage is running Win 10 Pro, home is Win 11 Pro.

Have not noticed this with CMBN or CMRT.  And it is also happening with CMCW (on both PCs with the large Grand Tournament scenario, but not smaller ones I have played so far)

  6. If you have more kills in a turn you get 3 points and your opponent gets 1 point. If nothing happens it is 0-0. Presume it is same 0-0 for a tie in kills which might be rare if they score kills based on values of units (e.g., tank vs. X soldiers).

I always thought it an odd way to score and figure it would be more logical to do it the soccer way.  3-0 for a win, 1-1 for a tie, and for CM 0-0 if no casualties in a turn.

Later Added:  Logged in this morning.  Noted that for my e-mail address I had mis-typed a comma instead of a period in my e-mail address.  Corrected that and sent off my Soviet first turn (plotted moves).  There is presently only one incoming turn in my PBEM++ folder after sending the turn.  Which would be my German side first turn.  So looking correct.

Got my Russian turn back from my opponent.  So in my case of the two turn SNAFUS, it may have been the mis-typing of my e-mail.

But I would add for BFC/Matrix benefit that if turns cannot be processed with an incorrectly typed or missing e-mail, the player should not in the first place be allowed to play the turn and think they are sending a completed turn back to their opponent. @BFCElvis

I am afraid I have experienced a bug.  Steam version 2.13, looks like the game won't upload to the server.

Turn 0, my soviet start dialog asked me to choose a PW, I ignore that and hit OK. That brings me to "Save email game" page. I leave it as default save file name and hit OK. however the game is still under "in progress" page, it is still the same turn asking the SOV player to choose a PW.

My German side game had the same problem but bring up a more frustration experience. After I spent 1 hour on deployment, I hit the red button, save file. I almost throw my mouse on the screen when I saw the German side deployment phase game is on the list.

Exact same thing here.  Sent out both initial game turns with moves plotted.  First one from my place up north (Soviet orders) a few days ago.  Looked at German side and realizing a lot of effort I deferred that setup till I got back home.  Started Monday night, left computer running and finished it yesterday and sent it out.  I am pretty sure when I opened PBEM++ here that only one turn was showing as listed on my screen which is what it would be expected as I already sent Soviet side moves.  Looked later and saw two turns waiting and to my dismay they were initial turns waiting for me to set up again.  Contacted my opponent and he confirms he received nothing.  Just installed team versions last week on both machines so should be the latest most up to date version of the game.

  9. Never happens to me.  But I only log in via the Matrix Games system.  Could that be it?

And what happens on my end is once I send back a turn, the turn dissappears from my list of active games in PBEM ++ (unlike regular PBEM ++ turns with friends where the turn my opponent receives is still visible to me, just unplayable to me).  And when I open up another tournament game (as long as I did not exit and restart the CM game), I am still logged in and do not need to re-enter my password.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I've been in Philly for the Eagles/Vikings game (Go Birds)

    Two things......

You have to be in their forum to send a direct message.

Also, from what I understand, you have to have posted a certain number of times on their forum before you can send a direct message. I'll see if I can find put how many times that is tomorrow.

Thanks. I found it.  And sent you a message to see if I could.  I don't think I have made any posts on the Matrix Forum.

Big no no giving out that kind of personal information. I wouldn't do it with the information that Battlefront has and neither would Slitherine.

No, I figured you wouldn't send us their e-mails, but I was thinking more along the lines that you would have their contact info and that in situations where one of us is hearing absolutely nothing, that you could contact them and ask what is going on.

  12. Elvis:

Is there any way that for these tournaments that players are given their opponent's contact e-mail?  At the very least can BFC compile an e-mail contact list for all tournament participants so in the circumstance where an opponent is totally silent and MIA, that we can at least contact you guys to either get their e-mail, or for you to give them a nudge or something?

Because in previous tournaments it just seems to me that there are way too many participants who never bother to show up which then screws with actual players tournament scoring and their enjoyment.

Reminder and heads up........There is just under a week left to wrap up your battles! If you're getting close to next Monday morning's deadline (*:30am UTC) try to at least get ceasefires. That will give you the in game Combat Mission scores which will be much higher than what you see displayed now.

Matrix site says Round 3 starts on Saturday July 15 at 0830 (Greenwich Mean Time? (4:30 AM Eastern Daylight Savings Time)).  If pairings are based on  rankings, how can Round 2 end on Monday July 17th?

Good news:  in Game 1 of Round 2, my unconventional forces apparently waxed a good number of my opponent's Amis. The plan I had seems to be working, and I saw a number of my opponent's pixeltruppen go down at the cost of a few overly enthusiastic guys I expected to lose anyway.

Bad news: I haven't received a turn back from my opponent in a week, and I have not even received the setup file from the other game in this Round.  I also have no way to reach my opponent - he is not active here or on Matrix's forum.  One tweak I would suggest is that the system either automatically share each player's email with his opponent, or, at the very least, make the "share email with opponent" option in-game to default to sharing the email, rather than withholding it.

I was on vacation until this past Monday, able to post initial turns (basically set password) beforehand and started returning turns on Monday.  As Syrian side, I was able to eliminate my opponent's US small force in about 4 minutes of game time by Wednesday.  As Americans, my side is holding up pretty good after 4 minutes.  But I have not received turns back since Wednesday and because there is no way to contact my opponent (as no e-mails provided) i have no way of knowing if they have bailed out, or if they are experiencing a real life situation (e.g., work, vacation, ...). I certainly could not let my opponent know that I was away at the start of this.

I feel the communication aspect of the Tournament system is a weak point and should be addressed.  Even if it has to be done in a manner that anyone wishing to join the tournament has to provide BFC with an e-mail so that there is a way for opponents to communicate.

When have you seen a forest that didn't have a shedload of undergrowth and bushes?

We *know* that there is undergrowth modeled and abstracted away.

Maybe abstract the spotting ability of vehicles hidden within a treeline (say within 3 m of the edge (pick a reasonable distance)) such that for some forward arc (say 60 degrees, +/-30 degrees from its facing) making it as good as spotting, or almost as good, as spotting in the open, with the thinking that the tankers will pick out a location that provides them with a decent forward field of view in the direction they perceive the threat to be coming from (which would be the way I am facing) while providing them concealment.  All other directions keep as is, with branches, underbrush, etc. imposing the spotting penalty that may or may not already be in place for being in the trees.  And in a further abstraction, though not penalizing the forward spotting abilities of vehicles hiding along the treeline, do not make them easier to spot than presently, the abstraction there being the tank crews camouflaging their vehicles with cut brush and stuff without hindering their spotting ability by doing so.

All fine and dandy for me to say, with no knowledge of the abilities of the code and its ability to do anything like this or other things being suggested, but if lying in ambush on the defensive, that is what I would expect my forces to do
