Heavy tree maps in NA are about as dense as light tree maps in europe. So it isnt the same.Originally posted by 37mm:Some people say they don't like the desert battles because they are all flat & featureless battlefields but can’t they play QB’s with medium hills, villages, medium tree’s etc?

This is more of what I was referring to. I would like to see the next CM try to model in more detail negative moral effects. For example, if a platoon of friendly units is broken and runs away, wouldnt that effect the moral of friendly soldiers around them.Originally posted by Michael Emrys:One thing that I've tried to do many times but never yet succeeded at, is to completely envelop one of his flanks and then to roll up the whole line. That would be fun!

My favorite games are combined arms with cover for inf.
I only played one NA map - a long thin map, armor only. It turned into a long range shooting contest. Not much fun.

Attacking from the rear in CM IMO is not as effective as in real life. The only benefit is if you find soft targets, or if you can attack from 2 directions at once.Originally posted by yacinator:If you manage to do that you can get behind the enemy line and hit him from the rear.
Every time I have gotten to the enemy's rear, it just turns the battle around.

I have never played against a 'sneaky' human. But humans are just much smarter than the AI - which makes the game come to life even more. Since my first game against a human, I have never played against the AI again. It just is no fun.

i always get the urge to play really big games on large maps. And then after I get started I remember why I like 600-1250 point games on small/medium maps. It just takes soooooo long to give individual orders to 300+ units.
If only CMX2 could combine a platoon level game with a squad level game. That would be great!!!!!

the biggest problem IMO is 'the all seeing eye'. I wish they would put in a friendly unit FOW option. It would mean that is a squad is out of C&C and out of line of sight of all other units, a 'friendly unit fow' takes over. The effects of that would be:
1) you (as the all seeing commander) dont see what this unit spots.
2) He location becomes an estimation based on the last order, not a hard location.
3) Tac-AI takes over for engagements.
4) You can still give orders, but the unit might not be where you think it is,
So you could order a squad to go through some woods out of c&C and out of LOS. When that happens, you lose hard info on that unit. It coudl be that it completes and order, or it could have become engaged with enemy units, or it broken and heading for the back of the lines.
I know not everybody likes this, but I think it would be a nice 'option'. And it would definitely limit the 'all seeing commander' problem in a logical way.

is there a good chat room where people are looking for tcp/ip games?
the one at combatmission.com is dead.

And that is only if you have a high speed connection. If you have dial-up - like me  - you will be able to order the full version and it will arrive at your house before the demo is finished downloading.I hear the demo is a four day download.

Jason/Dorosh,
I wonder if you would mind sending me your initial setup files when you guys were defending (Jason for both maps)? I think I really need to learn how to setup defenses better, and I think that would help.
Thanks

If they are going to change the setting for CMX2, they need to focus on the most epic struggle of all time - the one that happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ...

I, for one, think the graphics are just fine. At least it is very easy to see the elevation changes.
How do you keep those MG's from getting blasted with HE and still give them lanes to fire? Is there a some handy tip you could offer, or does it just take skill? My MG's seem to either not do much of anything, or get blasted to oblivion (that was in CMBO - have yet to try a defense in CMBB - always got slaughtered)

They slouch down into a more relaxed posture after that.
Seriously, why are they doing that?

That looks sooooo ignorant!
Can I mod that?

I bet they will send you a free copy of the demo.Originally posted by AndrewTF:Personally, I think BFC should front me a free copy of the game because not only am I a swell guy, but the pre-release of a mod will inspire perhaps dozens of rabid modsluts to purchase CMAK just to use this mod!

I was referring to day compared to dawn/dusk, not day compared to night.Originally posted by Private Bluebottle:And no, it doesn't happen at night - you need heat to create a heat haze. Night in the desert has its own visibility problems.

Why do you 'have' to wait til it comes out in retail? Just curious.
