  1. As a newbie and former ASL player, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for all the outstanding mods that have been made to an already outstanding basic game. My order is backordered at the moment, but CMBO and CMBB will most certainly live up to (and beyond!) expectations, partly because of the really great job done by Battlefront and the folks that have made many of the mods that go along with it. I'm (not so ) patiently waiting for the backorder to clear so I can get my copy of the combo package. To all, a superb job (based on the demos to date) and my thanks. Best regards, Glenn (Post also sent to the CMBO forum)

  3. Mike, Ales, Oh yeah, I knew it was backordered when I put my order in . They were very clear on the order page that the item was backordered, but I decided these sims/games were worth placing the order for right away. I'm sure it won't be too much longer, but until then I'll just chew on anything within reach and throw temper tantrums all over the place (and maybe even the odd coronary just for good measure) . Yup, I'm a Windows XP user (or is it that XP uses me - never have been too clear on that one)! Agua, Thanks for the welcome! This is a nice place to be, for sure. Borg? Sorry, left them in the last universe (women sure were sexy though! NOT ) Glenn
  4. OK, I too am a newbie, but frankly I purchased these games/sims for the strategy. These games/sims DO (or are supposed to) represent real battles to a degree, and thus *REAL* people (indirectly at least) - many of whom died (on all sides). Think about this when you ask to see blood and guts then - how would you feel if they modelled a soldier in great detail, to look exactly like your father or grandfather, and it was HIM who had his face blown off, or his legs blown off? I would think it would shake the living (expletive) out of you. At least it better! So why would you want to see other people's guts being blown to bits? Please, there are plenty of blood/guts/gory games on the market now (unfortunately) - let's not us add to the "grossness" that is war but instead stick to the strategic/tactical elements instead. Let's honour the people that died, not disgrace them by sensationalizing a body being torn to shreds in a computer game. If that still doesn't satisfy you, then there are plenty of real world conflicts going on in the world. I'm certain you would get more than your fill if you want to go and check them out in person... assuming you survive that is. Glenn
  5. Thanks Panzertruppe . Good to know. I've also downloaded the CMBB patch (I'm getting the North American version, but I have High Speed (sometimes, when my provider is actually up and running  )), so as soon as the order ships, I'll be ready . Thanks again, Glenn
  6. Thanks Panzertruppe! Appreciate the welcome. I have to admit, I'll sure be glad when this game gets off back order!! Can't wait to get into the full thing. Glenn
  7. Hi Hans, Thanks, I will do CMBO first (actually, I'm loving the demo, so even if CMBO isn't as up to date as CMBB, it will still hold my attention, I'm sure . Best of luck with the scenarios, and thanks once again! Glenn
  8. If I (as a newbie) may be so bold as to make a suggestion here to your REALLY excellent idea of making CMBB scenarios from the PB sets; what I used to do was make ASL scenarios based on PB and/or PL sets. The way I did this was to take one segment of the PL or PB battle (say, divide the map into 3rds, or something like that, and take all units that were within that segment). Then, I could make the entire platoon/company/whatever that fell within that segment out of individual SL units. This avoided the necessity of "scaling" down the units. Sometimes I would wait until a turn or 3 had been played before I counted out who was where, and sometimes some "not-so-straight" boundaries had to be drawn or it would be an easy victory for one side, but in the end it was "do-able". The other thing with that is that you don't just divide up units, but you also only use that portion of the map that falls within that one-third (or whatever you choose) area. By the by, since you did ask, my preference would be to use all of the terrain features available, within the context of the scenario of course, in your maps - as good as they were for their time, PB and PL were pretty spartan by CMBB standards . I'm not sure how easy all that is compared with what you have in mind, but it is another option that you might want to explore further down the road. Since I'm still waiting for CMBB/CMBO to arrive, I'm kind of groping in the dark here as to whether or not my idea is viable in CMBB, but I throw it out to you to do with as you see fit. Best of luck, and I hope you'll post them when they become available. That's a superb idea you have! Thanks! Glenn
  9. Hi Guys, Thanks for the feedback here. Yeah, I can see your point about waiting until I've played the full version before designing anything here based on the demo. That makes a lot of sense. I'll also check out the scenarios mentioned as well on this. Let me revisit the idea in about a month or so once I've recieved the full package and have had a chance to play a few scenarios. Thanks guys, Glenn
  10. Based on what little experience I have with CMBO at present (the demo only), I'm thinking I would like to see a few very small unit scenarios. This stems from what is probably a typical newbie's problem of having too much going on at one time to keep track of everything (as the demo readme says, this will take care of itself with time and experience, though). Still I think it would be cool to have a few engagements that perhaps have something the size of a platoon only. With that in mind, I plan to develop a number of scenarios based on Canadian (and maybe others in time) participation/actions along the "Maple Leaf Trail" once I get the full blown version (i.e. once the backorder items are shipped). The main premise of these will be that you can "attach" yourself to the platoon HQ using Camera position #1, and in a way, "put yourself there" as the unit fulfills its missions. Command and giving orders will be very much more difficult of course, but that is part of the idea. Since I'm still new at this, some scenarios will be very lopsided, some perhaps not that exciting, and others may be near impossible to win, but along the way I hope to learn what makes a good scenario as well as making it more realistic, again based on very small unit tactics. I would be most happy to post these if there is enough interest, but please keep in mind that many may not be up to the excellent standards that other folks have produced here. The real "difference" to these may be that the battles and movements are very much more localized than the "typical" scenario, and the fog of war very much more "in your face". Anyway, comments are most welcome and once I get the sim in my hands and figure out how to make scenarios, I'll work on some of these ideas and then let you folks know when they are available. Glenn
  11. Uhhh, if that lady in NY can sue McDonalds because she wasn't told that fat food could make you fat, can I sue you guys because you didn't tell me that this addictive sim could make me addicted to it (note - tongue planted firmly in BOTH cheeks here )? Sheesh guys, I'm only doing the demo, and I am totally, completely hooked!!! . AND, I've heard the CMBB is better still! Uhhh ohhhhh... THANK YOU!! Glenn
  12. Hey, thanks VERY much for this! I've bookmarked the sites and will visit often. I've also found the Canadian's site thanks to Stardog and Michael. Terrific resources there for sure! I have downloaded the patch 1.01 so it's ready to go as soon as my package arrives. Unfortunately it is on back order, and then has to clear Canada Customs, so it sounds like it might be a while. Hopefully not too terribly long though, but by then 1.02 may well be out, so I should be all set. Once again, thanks for the assist/sites, and especially for the welcome! Much appreciated. Glenn
  13. Thanks guys! I was told by Stardog this is a great place with terrific people, and he's never been wrong yet (that I'm aware of) He's certainly called this one correctly. Much appreciate the welcome, and I'll check out that website mentioned for battles and whatnot. Thanks again, and look forward to chatting with you in the near future. Glenn
  14. Cool, thanks Mud! I'll have a look for the patches you mentioned that I would probably need. I have high speed, so big files aren't a problem for me. Hey Stardog! Sent you an email yesterday on this stuff, so hopefully it got through ok. You were right - this is a fabulous program! I started playing without even reading the manual (have now though ), and it's extremely intuitive and fluid. These guys know how to program!! Anyway, I'll be watching the Superbowl but hopefully we can hook up sometime this evening after the game. Yak later then, Glenn
  15. Thank you Jim. Appreciate the quick reply. I'll check it out when I get the CD's. Glenn
  16. Good day Gentlemen, I did a quick search for this but didn't find what I was looking for. I just ordered the CMBO/CMBB combo package (and do realize it's on back order - no problem). May I assume that all applicable patches are in the new CD's being shipped for orders that were placed as of Jan 25? If they aren't, then I'll go ahead and download the patches and have them ready for when the CD's do arrive. Thanks guys, this is one really terrific product you've put together!! Much appreciated! Best regards, Glenn
  17. I'd be pleased if you folks would add me to the list of Newbies to this fine site (I heard that groan ). I tried the demo for CMBO last night at the urging of a friend and meant only to spend about 10 minutes with it to make sure it would run on my system. I wasn't sure what to expect, in all honesty, as I'm an old Advanced Squad Leader player (yeah, for me it was "Advance-to-the-rear" Squad Leader ), Panzer Leader, etc. boardgamer, and somehow the computer versions that were tried never quite satisfied me, despite some really good programming and efforts that went into them. Well, let's just say my "10" minutes turned into like 90 minutes, and even THEN I only quit because at some point I have to get some sleep (so I'm told). Even as the straight demo version, this system is something else again, and from the few posts I've read here and there to familiarize myself with the program and the Battlefront way of doing things, I'm thoroughly impressed! I understand CMBB is better still (I'm actually VERY interested in the Eastern Front as well as the Canadian participation in the western front)! I'll be looking at that demo next. Anyway, the long and short of it is, after trying the demo out for that "10" minutes ( ), I immediately went online and purchased the combo pack with both games/sims in. Now I understand they are backordered, and that's fair enough - I believe they are well worth waiting for, so in the meantime I'll work with the demos and watch the forums. I have read all the forum rules (and I PROMISE not to call anyone's mother a hamster!! (is Alces alces also banned? ) but I hope you folks won't mind a few neophyte questions to get me started. I have conducted searches on a couple of things but with no luck in finding the answer so I'll make another post for that question. So, in hopes that it doesn't appear too arrogant on my part, I thought I'd just drop in and introduce myself. Best regards, Glenn
