Can't believe I fixed the issue.
It was quite simple really.
I do think I need to read the manual before I can play the game though.
It looks a bit more complicated than SC.
If anyone needs to know how the should free up EMS memory, let me know, I'll be happy to explain... (looks around immensly proud of himself

Yeah JJ, the good old dos days !
I remember having several boots disks for several games. Back then it was easy.
I also remember toying with config.sys and autoexec.bat files to free up the EMS memory but I wouldn't have a clue how to make those things now using windows.

When I run the COS.bat I get : 'Sorry, no EMS found'
I'm running win'98, I downloaded the 1.1 file from the Yahoo Groups site.
What should I do? I'm no wcomputer wiz....

Mmm, the link to download the patch is broken.
I mailed the guys from the site to send me the patch, don't think they'll respond but at least I tried.

Welcome to the forum Frostwarrior.
It's possible to take Vichy France and Vichy Algeria in the same turn. First declare war, this is done by accesing the War Map, selecting Vichy and choose 'declare war'.
Be ready to invade the French part via Italy and France. Also bring up a transport just southwest of Marseille so you can attack it from the west.
Airsupport (with HQ) from France helps alot as well.
Use transports to invade Algeria. Airsupport can operate out of Sicily.

And sorry to say, I don't see the point in playing the AI with a zillion mpp's when I can play and learn the real SC by playing other players.

Dude, relax. You're staking things way to serious.
1. Playing the AI is EASY!!! Your little brother of 5 could do that.
2. Giving the AI extra mpp isn't going to make it play better.
3. Playing the AI will teach only so much. There are tons of strategies out there that you'll miss out on.
4. Playing SC online (TCP/IP) is not slowpaced, PBEM is. Did you play online already?
5. SC is nothing like those other games you mention, if you haven't played SC online you're a SC newbie (that's not meant as a bad thing)
6. Cheating is almost impossible, unless you use FOW sniffers.
7.Welcome to the forum, crack a joke, have a laugh, get to know people and you'll notice everyone is rather friendly overhere. But stop boasting you can beat tha AI with this or that setting.

That's indeed a high risk operation since the Axis air can easily reach you from Sicily.
Would you use Free French units or UK units?
The WE for the US would also get a negative hit.
If this operation fails Allies are set back quite a few turns.
What could be a good idea is to have Algeria become Allied after the fall of France, could be for SC2 maybe.
(btw Comrade, what's up with HQ? Is it down?)

How about x% chance you get a pop-up, telling you that a certain cities is reported to be ungarissoned.Whether this is true could depend on the level spy-technology the player has.

Edit your config.sys. There should be a line that says device=c:\windows\emm386.exe . If there is a word behind emm386.exe, delete it ten save the file and reboot.
Right click on the COS2.exe file. Choose properties, then memory. Look at expanded memory ,you can select total, automatic or a numerical value ,set it at 1024. Fire up the exe file.
I'm running win'98, hope this helps.
