  1. I just downloaded the demo. On my machine, it's horrible. I did turn the resolution up to where the game would look somewhat presentable on a wide screen 22" monitor, so that could be the cause of why it's choppy as hell. But for the resolution I chose, the graphics are still very bad. Without throwing my specs out there, let's just say I can run everything else out there. Is the full version any better? I was a huge fan of the CM series. Although the graphics weren't great, it was revolutionary as far as game play. I just don't see that here. I mean no offense to the developers. I mean I'd certainly like to give it a shot, but if it won't even work on machines that are already pushing the limits of modern technology, where do we turn to?
  2. I am also thinking of purchasing this game. I saw it today in Best Buy, and almost bought it. But the lackluster reviews prevented me from doing so. I have all the Combat Mission games. They are all very awesome, but it would be cool to have something with a bit better graphics and in realtime--not the clickfest realtime. Now I'm not a wargame grognard, so I'm curious how this game is holding up. There doesn't appear to be a lot of buzz in the forums.
  3. I read that you could buy the CMAK game and companion for $50.00, but I did not see a place for this. Could anyone direct me in the right place? I'd hesitate to pay more than $50.00. Knavery
  4. No problem guys. I had purchased this game a while ago and recently got hired at Wickedtoast. What a great bunch of guys over there. It was the first game I thought that was deserving of a review because I've been trying to get into wargames for a while and this made it easy for me.
  5. Check it out at www.wickedtoast.com. I know it's been out for a while, but better late than never right? I thought it'd make a good time for a review given that SC2 is in the works.
  6. How do you take screenshots in SC: European Theater? I'm having a tough time getting any form of screenie from hitting the 'print screen' function. Thanks.
  7. Wow! Thanks Les. That's exactly what I need.
  8. Kuniworth, I visited your site, but none of the links seem to work.
  9. Hey guys, I've read the manual and SC looks pretty simple to learn, but what do I do now? I've tried the first campaign where Germany attacks Poland and I've also tried the Overlord campaign. I'm actually kind of lost. Are there any strats for beginners? All I see are these counters and am not sure what I should be attatcking. If I have a division or army with a numerical number of 10 and I attack an enemy with a numerical number of 5, do they have a significant advantage? Is it better to keep the groups smaller without reinforcing them to keep the experience? I'm kind of lost.
  10. Oh I have Century of Warfare. Sarge, you're getting a little ahead of the gun here. You're rattling all of these titles out and I don't even know how to wargame yet. LOLOL. I've seen you around on Matrix and I know you're quite the wargamer. I think I will learn SC to begin with while dabbling with KP and HTTR.
  11. Hi everyone. I used to play the Combat Mission games here and there, but I wanted to get into hex-based wargaming a little bit. I bought this game about a year ago and just loaded it up. It's been referred to as a beer and pretzels game. This is NOT a beer and pretzels game. Unreal Tournament is a beer and pretzels game. This seems like a pretty decent game to start my wargaming experiences. I have also recently purchased Korsun Pocket and Highway to the Reich. Do any of you play the other two and would you strongly suggest learning Strategic Command first before hopping into some of these other titles?
  12. I have never been so impressed than I have with you folks. I haven't been on the forums in a few days and I get an email from my company's mailroom stating that I have a package. I'm thinking WTF. So... I went up there and what do you know... Another strat guide. THANKS BTS!!! [ May 01, 2003, 10:05 AM: Message edited by: Knavery ]
  13. Thanks Spook.. I appreciate it. I don't expect my site to take off, but it's good web development practice. I have had some help from a couple of other individuals with graphic design and such. I would like very much for my site to garner some hits, but it's not of the UTMOST importance to me. I'm just a fan of the game like anyone else, but would like the opportunity to host some scenarios. I'm glad some of you out there will help out. Thanks.
  14. Ok... With things the way they are, is there a way to get some of you scenario designers to allow other sites to host SINGLE downloads of your scenarios regardless of review scores? A completely unbiased position would give all an opportunity to get recognized. Many of you designers have given the Scenario Depot the rights to destribute these, but what of new start-ups like my website and those of others? I'm not saying we have a right to anything, but for the Combat Mission community to grow, there should be a little bit more flexibility then to simply give ONE website all of the rights to distribute user-made scenarios. Of course I agree with contacting the designer and getting permission to distribute their work, but there must be some kind of agreement that can be made than to allow this monopoly of user created scenarios. This community could blossom even larger than it has if users were given more outlets they could gather resources from. What's right and what's wrong -- what's legal and what's not legal -- All of this set aside and using common sense, can there be some kind of agreement made if, in the future, some of us are interested in hosting your scenarios? Or are we wasting our breath?
  15. I don't want a flame war going on. I just think that Jose was treated unfairly for trying to put together a nice collection of scenarios. I mean... Regardless of what route he could have taken in gathering these, there would have been someone unhappy with the outcome. I agree that permission should be granted, but I DON'T believe it would hurt all that much if permission was not granted and he went ahead with it anyway. I almost wish he would have. If proper credit is given, than there's no real harm done. If you're worried about some of the smaller or unpopular scenarios not getting any clout, tell him about it. I'd be happy to host them on my site as well. If many of you knew how much time and effort he has put into Europa Universalis II and how respected he is on those forums, then you might look at him differently. 16. Jose, I think you should still continue to make your presence known in the Combat Mission community. I have a website (http://cmtactics.no-ip.com) which I have been working on for a while now. It is currently down for maintenance, but I think this game deserves as much fanfair as possible. The reason I'm emailing you, is because I have a profound amount of respect for you. Although I bought Europa Universalis II more than a year ago, I still plan on learning the system and have your guide for beginners sitting next to me. You have been a big part of that community and I think the guys at the Battlefront forums would respect you a lot more if they had known you a bit more. I apologize if your NOT new to the Combat Mission forums, but that is what appeared to happen. I don't know how long you have been a member of those forums, but it seems as though you came and left after a sour taste in your mouth. Although I don't agree with most viewpoints of the scenario designers not wanting their scenarios on your site, I think you should at least provide links to them. No one can argue that including the designers themselves. But in all honesty... If the designers don't want the clout and the recognition by a larger audience, then don't give it to them. It's that simple. There are plenty of other designers out there that would love to have their work spread around. I think there may have been some confusion as to who the good guys really are. The ones that do change, edit, take false credit, and try to sell other peoples work for profit are NOT exposing themselves in the community. So... To the scenario designers.... it's out of sight / out of mind. I don't think they were accusing you of any wrongdoing per se, but I do think that you SHOULD be allowed to carry these scenarios on your website given that the proper credit is due. Since I am not well versed in copyright laws, I actually asked whether I could use a lot of what is contained on my site. There have been a couple of people helping, but Combat Mission Tactics mainly consists of links. It's a database of links to tactics in one spot without having to search the world over for them. That makes it easy for me. Someone will occasionally email something that they give permission to be posted. Kudos to them! Although the Combat Mission community is large, we could use another person as dedicated as you due to the success and respect you have gained on the Europa Universalis forums. 17. Markshot, Do you mind if I throw it on my site for download? We could always use the tactics.. LOLOL..
  18. Check it out guys. I hope some of you visit it. I would appreciate ANY players submitted strats or tables. The site has a new look I think you will all like. I personally like the eye candy. http://cmtactics.no-ip.com
  19. I spoke too soon. Just got here. My goodness this thing is huge!
  20. Ok.. If it's normal I can wait. I've lost stuff in the mail though and am just a little concerned. DOH! I keep forgetting it's nearing Christmas. That's probably the #1 reason.
  21. I've seen this numerous times and assumed it was normal. I think it's basically for suppression fire. You can shoot at the target not killing them while you shuffle your other men around. This will result in a 'cautious' status a lot of times in the enemy and they'll keep their heads down because their either pinned or panicked.
  22. I agree. If it is sent priority. It should have been here by now. If not... Then I would understand. It's Monday and I still don't have it. I am going to email sales about it and see if my copy actually got send out. I mean.. How long should someone wait before it's assumed that something went wrong?
  23. Hmmm... I'm still impatiently waiting. It's Friday. It's almost been a week and I STILL do not have the strat guide in my grubby little hands. If it's not here by Monday, I'm assuming something went wrong and I will contact Battlefront and have them re-submit it or something.
  24. Laxx, I'm just a guy wanting to help these fellas out. The Wargamer has been in invaluble source of resources for the beginner to advanced Grognard. I think I will put something up on my site as well.
