I looked up Mine Dogs and someone actually built a set of strategy game rules (for some unknown maybe hand-built strategy game) for the dogs. Hilarious.

Nice doggie....

Will a cover-armor arc work?
I've never seen this problem, but then I don't really rely on the smoke too much, since I think that low-scale tank smoke is nearly useless for cover.

Here's the picture that Headshot was probably referring to.

In a scenario I was in last night (can't remember name, lots of tanks, you have to do a "u-turn" around a giant lake), a German aircraft dropped absolutely the biggest bomb I've seen in CMBB, but I couldn't get the aircraft name, and I don't know what bomb it was.
It made a crater about 25 meters wide, wiped out ("eliminated") 3 entire squads who were spaced far apart and away from the epicenter of the crater (28 casualties).
What size bomb is this? What aircraft is this?
Any help?

Has anyone noticed that if a Sturmtiger shot gets a DIRECT hit on an armored vehicle, the game seems to only models the penetration effects and not the blast (on the vehicle itself -- the blast around it still does nasty things). I think the blast itself should do something to the vehicle itself as well. Shouldn't it kill the crew with a blast that big?
I found this out by firing a Sturmtiger shot at a Half-track, at which it got a direct hit on the tread, mkaing the half-track immobile. The crew suffered NO casualties, nor was even shocked. Even with that huge blast.
Maybe in the next patch?

Out of curiosity, what's the longest anyone has played CMBB (or CMBO) in one-sitting (short bathroom breaks allowed).
Mine's 7 hours. Just forgot about time from the time I got to work until it was 1AM.

Hilarious. I never heard of that. It's like the CIA "Spy Cat" where they wired a house cat internally with a sensitive microphone, and then released it in a public park in Moscow known to be frequented by Soviet insiders, in order to pick up whatever it could.Originally posted by MikeT:Mine dogs, problem was that the Russians trained the dogs by teaching them to look for food beneath a tank that they had handy......a destroyed tank.....a destroyed Russian tank. The dogs learned to associate food with the outline of that tank
The cat got run over by a car in 5 minutes.

I believe someone mentioned once that in an operation, if the tank is only abandoned and now "brewed up" the side that lost it has a chance to recover it for the next battle. That's what the original poster is referring to.Originally posted by Bruno Weiss:Huh? "Start them on fire." I seen some Italian fellers in NY start their cars on fire. Once a tank is knocked out, it is out. End of tank. Doesn't matter who controls the area from then on.
Anyone confirm?

What .bmp number is the Steppe Terrain. I agree that the rest of the mod is great looking and an improvement, but the Steppe's pinkish hue with blue spots (although you only see those if you're looking or at real close angle) is kind of annoying.
I'd like to replace that texture with the original, until DD redoes that texture, which I'm sure he'll do.
Otherwise, great job DD.

I assume you were making a point about the spelling? It's a little subtle.Originally posted by Rudee:This book should be re-written and all those who purchased it should recieve (sic) another copy. Whoever wrote it should be ashamed, and should go back to school.

With the opening of the former Soviet Union, we're now getting access to reams of data from Soviet war archives, previously forbidden to anyone outside of the Soviet inner circle.Originally posted by Xavier:Are there pictures real war pictures or a just a propaganda stuff?

Soddball, in your FAQ it says that ADVANCE is slower than MOVE. Is this correct? My experience is that it's faster. Can you check again?

Could someone fill me in on what this thing is? Why is it 100MB?
-
What is it. What's it do? I'm assuming it was available for CMBO, but I didn't own that game.Originally posted by Agua:If we can find a host for DD's terrain mod, it will be THE terrain mod to have, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Are there any recommendations for really good user-made Operations I could download, which are NOT city based. I like just about anything as long as it's playable against AI, and takes place in some sort of largish outdoor location (medium maps or better).
Thanks in advance.

Yes, that's how it's done. I'd recommend the tiny "Flamethrower mod" which replaces the flame texture and doesn't make it look so much like orange juice. A nice small mod.Originally posted by RSColonel_131st:If not, I guess I'll be off to download. Take it that simple replacing the .bmps is sufficent as installation?
There are high-res wheat mods, houses, etc. Different flame and smoke are also nice sometimes.

Hehe. Good eye, LightningWar. Just noticed that line. OUCH!!Originally posted by LightningWar:6.why the hell is there a limited amount of turns. out of nowhere i could finally be making serious progress and then it ends and says total defeat.
ROTFLMAO! Ya sure you were just about to make your move 40 turns in. But ended with a "Total Defeat" hehehe.
"Dude, I had two entire SMG squads available, and they only had a Panther and HMG sitting on the victory thing! I just needed 4 more turns!"
ROTFLMFAO!!!!!

All that nice molding and marble? Must be Episcopal.Originally posted by Bruno Weiss:Ah, I hate to bring it up but... What denomination is it?

In addition, CMBB has randomized Quick Battle's while you are stuck with stock scenario in every CC I've played. Maybe they changed that in CC4 or 5 I never played those.

The infantry will win every time. Just spread them out and advance. The Sturmtiger will get off a shot about, what, every 90 seconds?</font>Originally posted by CMplayer:</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr />Originally posted by flamingknives:
SturmTiger vs. infantry on an open map anyone?

Reading IGN's list of recent reviews for any high-score game that I haven't bought, and reading about CMBB. I ordered it 10 minutes later.

Yes, but unlike CMBB, chess has a weapon's upgrade! (Pawn to Queen)Originally posted by Mikelas:Yes, but both sides have the same exact pieces (except for the color). And the map is always the same and exactly fair. What's with that?
Chess RuLz, CMBB 5uxx07s!

My favorite part of CC3 were the AI controlled Nashorns that would drunkenly lead the urban assault down a congested street. Bumping into buildings for a while, before some combination of HMG/LMG/ATR/ATG/T34/Infantry/Hamster took it out.

Are infrared sights modeled on Jagdtiger....?
in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Posted
The IR night vision was ACTIVE infra-red wasn't it? (they shined a blacklight searchlight and read the reflected light back from it). What do you think the reach is of that thing? I'm thinking 150 meters at most, kind of pointless.
