Regarding the size of a hex based map, people need to remember what the World in Flames map looked like...it was one of the best aspects of the game.....and now that Matrix is doing the PC version of WiF, the competition for gamers money makes this a more serious issue than just one of personal preference....

The game is a good 8 months away, so I would guess an idea or two might be considered..it's like a domino effect however, if Hubert actually incorporated one idea from the board, it might cause problems or changes with other aspects of the game, so I'm sure a change would be considered very carefully....

That was one of the things I like about Hearts of Iron, the abilty to create your own playlist..I loaded up on WWII film scores..unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the game long enough to ever hear everything I put on my playlist....

These scenarios certainly sound great but since we are quite a way from a release date, I have to temper my potential enthusiasm until we know some details on what this editor can and cannot do...I think there is as much anticipation about the editor as for the game at this point..

KDG...For the Invasion America scenario, Canada was our lone ally and needed to be defended and there was an invading force coming through Central America...it would offer more of a challenge and variety if these areas were included as well, rather than just the USA...the scale may need to be more than 25 mpt if this is used...

Oh ok...don't want this to stray off topic but when you mentioned WWII of the same, I took that to mean Turtledove's WWII series...

Everyone seems to want different types of scenarios, including a battle between the Uglies and the Lizards....it would be beneficial perhaps, if someone on the development team could devote a moment of their time to explain what exactly can be done with this new editor...for example, how is the AI handled when setting up a customized sceanario, and how would a map of the USA from coast to coast be replicated using the tile system... does one figure out the scale and "draws" coastal tiles along the Atlantic and Pacific to provide a representation of the coastline or are there templates that can be used and you simply adjust tile size and scale?...these things are quite vague to me and so just a primer on Scenario Editing 101 would be helpful...

I think you could have achieved breakout and exploitation attacks very easily with a hex based map if stacking was allowed...something that has been mentioned before, but bears repeating here.......

KDG..I still have my Invasion: America - Death Throes of the Superpower game from SPI...Quickly looking at the map, I guess it would be fairly easy to roughly copy hex by hex from the board, to a tile by tile replica for the game...what is also good is that one can use the scenario OOB's to set up the opposing forces...Not having a clue about the editor that will come with the game, and not having a clue how to use it, I do not know if I can actually do it....I will give it a go though once the game comes out...I want to try designing SPI's Russian Civil War for SC2 as well...hope I can do it, if not, someone worthier than me may attempt it...
-
I'm going to take a healthy stab at producing a Russian Civil War scenario...I hope there will be a FAQ on how to use the editor, as I'm sure that I  will need all the damn help that I can get...
-
I sure hope so...there definately needs to be a more aggressive AI, especially, as you mentioned, in the MED....as the Axis, to virtually leave Italy undefended, throughout the entire war, without the Allied AI even taking a sniff at it, must be changed....

There were a couple of sites which carried the SC1 custom scenarios and they are always mentioned in this forum...the same will happen when SC2 comes out, you can be fairly certain of that....by the way, is Otto's site still up?
-
Huh....since when is the word "various" a dirty word?...where is Howard Stern when you need him?

Which is perhaps why the screenshots of SC2 show units on the same map with ******* tech levels...perhaps only new builds will now benefit from the most recent research upgrades... older units perhaps, would need to spend a turn in a city hex for an upgrade...this would be a big improvement...

Of all my complaints about HOI, the one aspect I liked was the research and tech tree...now SC2 does not need the detailed step building that HOI has to complete a project, but if there was a tech tree which allowed you different research and tech paths to take, and the costs prohibited you from having everything maxed by games end, there could be enough variety without the random element...

Would be nice if the game had a scenario wizard JJ...

If it's possible, the custom campaign I would like to try creating is the Russian Civil War...do not know if I have what it takes to create it though...

You will need to be very careful when advacing your units so you do not create these pockets...gives a whole new meaning to flank attacks.......Originally posted by Night:Kuni I was just thinking the exact same thing when I saw the picture of the 5 armies attacking 1.
However note that it is because there is a turn in the line insted of it being a line where only 2 or 3 units could come to bear, in other words it's a weak spot.
-
So, if I understand this notion correctly, with hex based, it took 6 units to completely surround a unit, but with tiles, you will need 8...if so, then you'll need to assign more units for encirclements which could be more challenging, though it will look strange to see a unit escape by squeezing through a corner...

Thanks for that update...and yeah, I guess I have been a damn nag about that huh?...

Surprised you didn't mention Kriegspiel, the game I cut my wargaming teeth with... ...but regarding the map editor, if I can figure out how to do it, I would be very happy to simply max out the European/Mediterranean Theater....Originally posted by Barticus:Hmmm, a map editor you say.......
If you were an old board game grog-type being like myself, you might be inspired to create, or re-create as it were, some of the games of old. Like Tactics II, or Blitzkrieg!

It's nice to read that there will be a dynamic weather system in SC2....now the question is what the turn lengths are...I hope the SC1 system has been scrapped for a weekly or bi-weekly/impulse phase approach....

As Rambo suggested $35 is a good price, but I will not shy away from $50 either...when I think of the money I have blown on games like HOI, I still know that my money will be well spent on SC2....
I want North America off the map
in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare

No North America would mean an even larger map for Europe, while maintaining Huberts' scale of a 120x38 map....I'm for that.....though seriously doubt it would come to pass....
