  1. Yes, captured units can "escape" if you don't watch them, but they've been stripped of their weapons, so how much butt are they going to kick anyhow?

Anyway- if I may offer an obvious solution: Captured units cease to be under *anyones* control- they just immediatlely start walking towards the enemy's back edge of map and disappear into the off-map pow camp, points counted as they should.

I mean, what do they add to the game anyhow? The problem under discussion hasn't affected me one whit, but I can see the concern, and it wouldn't bother me personally if pow behaviour were automated.

I'm sure it will be in the next patch. smile.gif

  2. Most excellent work.

Absolutely, you should alert BFC to the existence of your site- it deserves to be linked to, from BFC's "Buy This Game" page; something like, "Take a peek at a typical PBEM game", or something. Very strong selling tool- who could possibly match it???

If it could be improved at all, I would say this: A slightly larger typeface would benefit those of us old enough to imbibe, and a "Next Page" button on the bottom (when you're done reading that page) would be appropriate.

All things considered, it's a 'schreck of a nice site.

  3. It's one thing to muse over terrain, it's another to have instinctive reactions...

I was walking down the sidewalk, turned a corner onto my street, facing oncoming traffic. Just at the moment I came around, a car which was parked by the curb, facing me, started backing up, and although it was clearly unrelated, I had the feeling that my "sudden" appearance, which one might think oh-so-slightly threatening, was what caused him to backup. (Remind you of anything?)

I *almost* yelled at him to "Quit Chickening Out, you B*st*rd!!".

Not a good thing to yell, in my "hood".

  4. I also played both demos ad nauseum, and I ended up buying just CMBB, when for a few more bucks I could have gotten the FullPack, and also, (quite validly, grogs), I find the W front more entertaining/immersing/something like that.

You say the CMBB Demo sucks, and you're right, but only in regards to one aspect- the scenarios are not as intriguing or replayable, say, than the CMBO demo scenarios. But it does demo for you the difference in play, the diffs between the games.

Since there are clearly very many excellent scenarios for you to play in CMBB, (trust us), regardless of the shortcomings of the demo, your decision should be much like mine, I would think:

BO: Immersing W Front(***), Intriguing implementation(***).

BB: Interesting E Front(**), Ineluctable implementation(*****).

The question of Front is swamped by the difference in game engine, for me personally.

Bought CMBB, therefore, and haven't regretted it, although I have two years to wait for anything other than E... So ask me in six months, maybe I will say I should have gotten both, though I doubt it. At any rate, buying only CMBO strikes me as not an option. Hth,

Hmmm ergo it would be nifty if SDs told us what size it "really" was... CPU-wise, I mean.

I "played" one op which kept getting bigger, and bigger, and bigger... until it just flat out wouldn't load! Oh well- guess I won. smile.gif

  6. IME they are most 'trigger' happy when within 20-25 meters, meaning not closer as well as not further. And of course, (someone said this already prol), no friendlies within blast radius.

Targetting the field, specifically, can be counterproductive as you've seen- I just move them within the magic distance and let them do it as they wish, and they haven't let me down. But it *can* take a couple turns.

Also, if the field is blown with satchels it can take out small buildings nearby. Take cover. smile.gif

More than one pio squad in low vis, ready to chuck charges is recipe numero uno for friendly fire- don't use 'Follow Vehicle' with more than one pio squad at a time in night or fog.

  7. You guys are thinking way too small.

Next time around, I want, (and fully expect to see smile.gif ), briefings as fully animated presentations using the map itself.

Give the designers a few map presentation commands like 'Zoom in on Point Alpha', 'Highlight Yellow Zone', 'Draw Force Arrow from A to B'... You get it.

When combined with hopefully much more sophisticated victory conditions/goals... Wow.

No. Or rather, I have been completely foiled, and so have any number of other people, (campaigners). So if it's possible it sure takes some weird science that noone's discovered, or they're keeping it secret.

Basically, it's like this- the SE is a snob. Anything made in SE is usable anywhere. Anything made in "not SE" is not recognized by SE. By "made not in SE" I mean all Autosave files, (including the AAR), Saved Games, and all QB generated maps which are part of those files.

Remember that your AAR saved game can be imported into a new QB, btw. You can get a bit funky by making a QB, playing hotseat, ceasefire on both sides when you have enough burning tanks around, then use that for a new QB. Too bad you can't load that in the SE, though. smile.gif

Again, this is my experience and my black box interpretation. If I'm wrong on any of this, there are many of us who would *love* to know about it.

The problem with that interpretation is, What happens then? If you can order the TH across the hill regardless, then you have a TH team standing next to an APC, it would be strange if he didn't attack it. If you cannot give him an order to move, then it's a strange sort of a game where you can't tell your guys even where to go...

See what I mean? There's something missing here.

The unit will not be able to do *what*? Accept the command? Or decide what to do about an APC it hasn't yet seen, or... wha? Could you be bothered to rephrase that? Clearly this is the golden nugget of the thread!

  11. My brother asked me how I expected to take out a tank with a flamethrower; his expectation was that if an FT were to fire at a tank, the tank crew would be lucky to even notice, perhaps they might hear a whooshing noise and wonder what it was.

I had no answer, since I don't know, which seems like a good reason to ask y'all. Hopefully it's pretty close to the topic:

What does a FT do to a tank? Is it only the engine which gets fried, or does the crew experience nasty amounts of heat also?

One could call that relevant, but it is not.

You just gotta remember that after you target or give an ARC command, to hide them again.
The fact that there's an "easy' workaround doesn't mean it shouldn't be fixed, or at a minimum some mention from BFC like "Noted." That workaround requires knowledge of the anomaly, (not available to most, even readers here, let alone those who haven't purchased the game yet), and unfailing memory skills, (not available to many here, including me).

Think of an ARC command as 'deferred targeting of a zone'.
Think of the AI belaying your orders for no apparent reason as a bug.

I honestly have no idea what you are talking about in that sentence; I cannot even tell what sense of the word "deferred" you had in mind. I prefer to think of an Arc as the extremely simple thing it's been until this moment. If you truly believe there's some way to rationalize this behaviour, then please think of explaining yourself in a clear and direct manner.

  13. 1) Give your unit a Move command, any type, and add a Hide on it. (Suppose a TH almost to the forest edge of the road).

    2) Because you can visualize his endpoint, you go ahead and give him a Cover Arc, (either type).

    3) He no longer has the Hide command at the end of his path.

Easy workaround, but hey- Bug is a Bug, and I've never seen the forum mention this one. Likely too late as well... what can I say?

  14. That's got to be the most laudatory review I've ever seen.

I'll go along with chadwick- all those numbers look good to me, except for the 10 on the documentation; it's *sorta* deserves a 10, in a way, but... Only one person I think could give it a 10 for real- someone who is *already* very familiar with all these weapons and the history of yadda yadda...

The review does have one extreme problem, after he all but purchases the game for you, he doesn't even mention the Demo!! Not even once; go ahead, look for it. He mentions but doesn't link to this forum either, where my wit and other's wiles would surely finalize the sale of those still teetering with uncertainty. We need more fresh blood and dumb questions here- my number is too high still.

And I couldn't fail to notice that he uses UBB syntax instead of html, quote:

[sARCASM] Well that's not much of a list, is it? [/sARCASM]

    Someone we know? Hmmm?

SS = "SuperSulo", or "Shoots & SCORES!!!" ?

Kick butt, commander- that's an awesome find.
