  1. No, I don't think it's even a vehicle. It looks like an 88mm ATG PaK43. The gun shield is easely recognizable.

By the way, the weapons doesn't look simply set up on the ground, but on a kind of platform with camoflage

Edited : I've just noticed that the gun has a "chair" in front of it. This device is to be used during transport... ...strange !

However, the cost of jars to sustain an additional brain may put this out of reach also.

Why not launching a general donation thread ?
  3. They could even suppress the entire manual ! Everybody here knows how to play, right ?

BTW, if you compare the price between the production of another CD and the complete redaction-publishing-routing operation for the manual, I'm almost sure the second solution is far more expensive.

  4. ...oh no, I don't think so !

Even if the scene in BoB is quite short, the general shape of the gun is easely recognizable. I'm almost sure it's a 37mm PAK, with the HC round "stielgranate".

If I remember correctly, the scene just after the shot shows the entire german crew withdrawing to a safer place (say 6 - 10 men), running and towing the little gun with'em.

It's difficult for me to imagine men running with a "88mm rocket launcher" (you're not talking about a Püppchen, are you ?) under enemy fire... However, 37mm PaK crews often manned and moved the gun in combat.

  5. Sounds right. Here is another good article about the main drawbacks of the cramped AFV interior.

Personally, I do not consider the Hetzer to be one of the more advanced tank destroyers of WW2. It was an improvement over the self-propelled AT guns the Infantry Divisions had to rely on, but that's all. The gun itself was excellent, but its location in the vehicle was a major drawback. The main fault lies in the positioning of the crew members, forced by the off-center mounting of the armament, and was by far the worst of any of the numerous German vehicles of the limited traverse category. This type of vehicle depends on the closest cooperation between commander, gunner and driver to locate targets and aim the vehicle and gun at them. This teamwork was especially important in the Hetzer, with the smallest amount of traverse of any type in service, 16 degrees. It is disasterous to rip this team apart, but it was done here, and the commander was stuck in a box cut out from the engine compartment and separated from the rest of his crew by the gun in front of his belly. Due to his position so far back, a large area in front of the vehicle was outside his vision. Observation was very difficult and smoke from the gun directly in front of him made it worse.

I also want to point out his very limited provision of periscopes, as compared to other TD models, which didn't help matters either. Due to the limited traverse to the left of only 5 degrees, the driver was forced to position the vehicle at an angle, to give the gunner a chance to follow targets moving to the left, and this started to expose the thinner 20mm side armor, the weakest of any German tank destroyer. Any traverse to the right, which was 11 degrees, pushed the loader away from his main supply of ammunition underneath the gun and on the right wall opposite from him. The Pak 39 was designed for right side operation, but since the loader was seated to the left of the gun, he had to load over the solid deflector screen instead of the low-mounted bar on the right, designed for this purpose. All controls were mounted on the right side of the breech ring, operating lever, safety switch and extractor release, and he had to lean over the gunner and breech to reach them.

Opening the breechblock for the first round, unloading the gun, not to mention the removal of jammed cartridge cases, required almost acrobatic skills. His movements were somewhat restricted by the controls for the MG mount sticking down from the ceiling. The idea of the remote control MG was very good, but since it was drum-fed from 50-round drums, reloading had to be frequent, and this was something else!! The hatches could only be opened when the MG was turned sideways, and the loader's movements to attach a new drum (and much more to handle jammed cases), were restricted by the side shields of the mount. On the positive side this shield did provide a bit of cover for him. By the way, all 3 crew members on the left had to bail out through this hatch, the commander was privileged in this respect.

  6. Hello Gentlemen,

Here are some interesting pictures of the interior of the Hetzer Jagdpanzer.

View of Hetzer tank showing periscopes and part of interior - on the right is recoil mechanism for main gun - on the left is the brown handle for the machine gun. and just to leeft of the periscope is the contol for the range finder. The white bar is part of the swivel mechanism for turning the periscope.

I had this problem, long time ago... ...see this dedicated thread .

To be short : keep the spacebar hold while launching the game ;)

  8. Hi BDW,

I could recommend this huge album, a bit expensive, but definitly a goldmine for panzer amateurs :

Panzertaktik German Small-Unit Armor Tactics (Wolfgang Schneider).  Hard cover, large format (9”x12"), 512 pages, 600+ photos, maps and diagrams.  Wolfgang Schneider has written the definitive account of German Army small-unit tactics in World War 2. Using period training manuals, after-action reports, countless interviews with Panzer veterans and his own experiences as a highly successful armor commander in the Bundeswehr, Schneider describes period Panzer tactics and couples this narrative with related maps and diagrams and hundreds of exciting photographs. Indeed, the photographs alone are worth the price of the book. Drawing on many previously unpublished sources, the photos illustrate all of the concepts presented in the text.

Concentrating at the battalion level and below, Schneider discusses the major types of small-unit operational art — the offense and the defense — as well as road marches, reconnaissance, command and control, working with other arms of service, life in a tank, armor training and gunnery and the future of armor. The text provides useful insight into armor tactics for both the layman and the armor professional.

This title plugs a gap in the available literature, since very little has been written on the topic for the general public by soldiers who are intimately familiar with the demands of armored warfare.

This is the third title written by Wolfgang Schneider for J.J. Fedorowicz Publishing. It joins the hugely successful titles, Tigers in Combat and Tigers in Combat 2, as an indispensable reference work on World War 2 armor. Price $85 USD / $120 CDN.

There is a chapter about life in the panzer, task and training of each member of the crew.

Taken from the Fedorowicz publishing website

There is also a good article in a recent "Military Illustrated" magazine. I've to check the issue number...

PS : you are #30 registered member at BFC

  9. Dear MikeyD,

Your skies are pure heaven. The desert scenes are very impressive, these mods make the battlefield almost infinite.

Kind suggestion : what about a CMBB sky for steppe scenario. I remember many pictures were panzers rolled in an almost never-ending flat plain...

However, I think that your actual mods (what am I saying... ...artworks smile.gif ) don't really fit for Normandy countryside. A bit too hilly in my opinion.

Anyway, keep up the good work ! Thanx

    Yeah, it's a shame.

I often saw that a complete STG44 ammo load is required to shot down someone (MoH)... ...CM is just inaccurate in representing this balistic particularity ( :D )...

    What ?

Is this possible ? I guess the PzB 28 is carried inside the SPW... ...not following the towed PaK, true ?

A screenshot would be just cool

  12. Hi,

I've read that BFC was actually working on a 1.02 patch for CMAK. Unfortunatelly, we don't know when... ...ask Madmatt or Moon for it :D

It will probably contain some minor fixes, and/or corrections about various OOB. But I would be glad to be wrong about that !

Do a search in the last topics of the AK board, IIRC, some guys talked about it last week...

  14. Dear Michael,

Thanks for your advice but I never intended to buy OFP, as I thought it was devoted to modern era conflict(s). Also, if you say it's possible to inflict bad damages to a heavy tank with MG... ...I definitly prefer CM smile.gif

However, on the other hand, OFP appears very impressive, eye candy to me. And I'm sure that many persons here could think the same and start dreaming about CMX2 with these pictures in mind LOL !

As a modest modders, I find these graphics really nice, say beautifull.

Also, you surelly know, many guys here posted wishes about the next generation of CM, and, in particular, spoke about the graphic rendering. I modestly think that these screenshots nicely illustrate the quality to which the next game could tend. Don't you agree ?

Armor is nicely textured, zimmerited, with dust, battle damage, mud at an extremely high rendering point, IMHO. Dynamic lightening is cool too

    PS : hi Mom ! tongue.gif

  15. Hi guys,

I sometimes, like many other players here, have a look to the Panzer Elite board, and read a few comments about the game in itself or the new/incoming patches and mods.

An interesting thread page about the next PE game held my attention, where someone posted some marvellous screenshots of an addon designed for "Operation Flashpoint". I never see much of the game before (I thought I wasn't a WW2 era game). These pictures really impressed me

I perfectly know that this is not directly related to CM but, I have to admit that this stuff is really nice !

Ok ! Stop talking, pictures please :D

    Really impressive, IMHO.

Do you plan to include buildings, skies, terrain tiles and some other stuff ?

Can't wait for the mod !
