As far as I can tell, an HQ picks the closest 5 units. The computer picks HQ's by starting in the upper left corner of the map and goes down each hex column until it finds an HQ. I have not heard a better theory yet, we will see in the docs.

It's all about HQ's, HQ's experience, HQ's rating and the units experience. If you catch a German panzer that blitzed and outran it's supplies/HQ radius you can kill it fairly easily.

Which units? One of the adjustments made for the final version was for when Allied units are taken off of key positions in the Medeterranean. What will happen is that if Allied units are removed from their current garrison assignments then Italian interest will be peaked for entry into the war. -
Yep, what Aesop said. I will take it a step beyond 'exercise in futility'. Any English unit that lands in Europe without a port to escape from will die fast. This assumes Russia is not in the war yet.

The reason you can't op move AF sometimes is your supply/readiness state is too low. An historical example would be the difficulties the American strat bombers had when they flew to Russia or Africa after hitting targets in Germany. Actually, that's not a great example, but it was the best I could do.

P.S. Don't expect your air units to fight very well without a major city or HQ supplying them either.

Thanks Hubert. I guess I should just wait and see for now. Everything I bring up has been changed for the gold already.

That will probably be enough to save England, or at least make it impossible for Germany to win after buying too many AF in order to conquer England. The point of the "ultimate strategy" did remind me of one small change that I made to Air Fleets, as I think it was brought up a while ago in another thread as well, basically the Air Fleets combat effectiveness has been reduced just slightly against soft and tank targets.I guess we can save the rest of the pbem discussion until SC goes gold.

Give USA 2 fighters and 2 strat bombers that cant be moved or disbanded. You could place them at the edge of the map in the ocean.

C'mon. There's got to be more SC pbemers out there with comments. To make matters worse, Hubert has said that if you start with the invasion of Poland, the Germans probably will not have done as well as how they start out in the demo. The catch is that you may not have done as well, but you could have 1-2 more AF and less armies. The English will also not be able to disband the free French units in the Gold version.

Hubert, do you have an eta for the tcp/ip feature?

bump. Might be good to have a backup in case case's ladder doesn't meet our needs.
-
Nice thing about case's ladder is that anything is fine as long as both players agree. How are we going to decide who gets to play Germans?

I signed up.

Aloid, if you want a game, email me at gorski35@msn.com

I guess I have Aloid mixed up with someone else. Thought Aloid was riczet's handle on the SC board.

It's hard to tell, tactics are still evolving. The demo ends before the Germans can lose, and sometimes before England can be conquered.Gorski, out of curiosity, who seemed to be winning your games, Axis or Allied? We played a couple games with France surrendering on turn 1 and German DoW Russia turn 1. Germany can't win in this scenario, but it's interesting.

Is the SC HQ going to host a ladder?
-
I think Hubert has these issues handled already(hope?) I know he stated that the surprise DoW has been fixed. I think his solutions were give major countries a starting mpp allotment and make certain coastal hexes territorial water so you can't move there until after DoW. The undo move discussion is on the board somewhere. I don't recall wether Hubert or someone else suggested that undo move be a selectable option.
Aloid and I have played about 8 pbem games against each other. Anybody else out there played much SC PBEM?

I will be home all day. Who wants to blitz a pbem game today?

Might want to run that test again in hotseat and check the experience levels of the involved units and HQ's. I just played a game vs the ai with +1 experience. The unescorted English bomber was chewing up my fighters badly. I think this might be partly due to the difference in experience between my units and the AI's.

Maybe we should be able to go negative mpp's for operating?
