  1. If the game is so simple, why do we still have undefeated pbem players here? and others with a very high win rate. Gorski
  2. I delete unit names if I think it might give the enemy a clue as to my deployments. Is that malta AF still there? Where did that corps in the med come from? I have not started using active deception yet. Such as renaming the home AF with the Malta AF name. Gorski
  3. Nahh. The Beta Boys probably just suck. <ducks>
  4. The allied players need your tips or they will be CRUSHED in your pbem challenge. Muahahaha Gorski
  5. Count me in for either side. I am currently playing my 4th and 5th pbem. Undefeated so far. Gorski
  6. Hubert, tell us your allied pbem strategies. Better yet, let the Beta Boys tell us so you can work on v1.05. Better still, send the Beta Boys into the ring so we can take a whack at em in pbem. Gorski
  7. Hoorah for 3 Russian capitals. Gorski
  8. I think MSN is having another snafu. I have not received your turn or Russ's. You emailed it about 2 hours ago? Can't wait till I get DSL. Gorski
  9. How about any unit using undo becomes visible for the current turn? I liked the way your undo's work, and it seems that none will want to use it due to the possibility of cheating. Maybe also keep track of the undo's. ie 'your opponent has done his xxth undo' Gorski
  10. If your HQ is within 10 hexes ,counting terrain, of a level 10 city, it will have a supply level of 10. If you your HQ is 1 hex closer than the city value of a city that has a value less than 10, then the HQ will have a supply level of 8. Regarding your HQ with 6 supply, I can only guess that you are playing v1.04 and that another HQ was providing that supply level. I have not played in the east with v1.04 yet. Gorski
  11. I think you need to play against somone else. I attack Russia as late as possible with 5 Fully utilized HQ's and a smattering of corps. I kill or surround 7 armies and 1 tank corps on turn 1. This is just what I have done. I am sure there are more effective strategies for turn 1 Barbarosa that others have developed. RE gameyness in Russia: I have never actually surrounded Moscow or driven to the eastern edge of the map. If all it takes for Germany to win, is to surround Moscow, then Germany can't possibly lose a game of SC started in 1939. Gorski
  12. I vote for the manual to contain everything. I am not looking for 'immersion' in a strategic wargame. I want to know exactly what happens and when re politics in SC. Gorski P.S. Still love the game, can't wait for tcp/ip
  13. I can't argue with that. With HQ's being able to supply each other in 1.04, the Germans will have an even easier time in barbarosa. Anybody have any bright ideas for stopping Germany? Gorski
  14. Russ, or anyone else, how many games have you won/lost and playing which side? I have won one game as Germans so far. Gorski
  15. I find the battle for the Atlantic in sc very interesting. The allied player can't kill all the German ships in the beginning. After France falls, the axis player can achieve air superiority off the shores of France and have the combined Italian and German navy operating under air cover. This would be especially effective with long range air craft. At this point, building one or two subs could result in a decisive victory in the Atlantic. Eastern Front: I think pushing to the edge of the map in order to prevent the Russians from gaining mpp from the Caucasus is just as gamey as surrounding Moscow. I will not use either of these tactics against a human. Gorski
  16. Home all day. Prefer Germans. gorski35@msn.com Gorski
  17. At last! An intelligent discussion about pbem. I am in the middle of my first full length pbem game, so this is more theory than proven strategy. I don't agree with the many corps plan. I like armies/tanks with HQ's. The idea is to kill German tanks whenever they try to outrun their supply lines. I don't fight hard for the first half of the map. I just try to keep my units alive and slow the Germans a little where possible. Gorski
  18. The HQ's supply level is not (city size)-(distance from city). How are HQ supply levels calculated?(including HQ's supplying each other) Where are the convoy hexes? So far I have heard 'within 5 hexes of certain ports' Gorski
  19. I pre-ordered in the first hour possible and have not received SC yet. Sales at battlefront has not responded to my email containing my confirmation number. I live in Oakland, CA. Was using usps a mistake? Can I at least get a response? Gorski [ August 11, 2002, 01:04 AM: Message edited by: gorski ]
  20. 'How effective is strategic bombing' is not the issue. The top generals of the 8th AF knew that their main objective was to destroy the luftwaffe in air to air combat, not put bombs on target. Gorski
  21. You need to read books on the air war, not just general books covering the entire war. The luftwaffe only flew and attacked when they felt they had an advantage until daylight strategic bombing forced them to fly and fight against every raid. Without the attrition caused by daylight strat bombing, the luftwaffe would have been able to contest the air over the beaches on d-day. The luftwaffe was also forced to redeploy many of it's fighters far away from Normandy to fight the bombers. Gorski
  22. The allies were not capable of bombing oil production for a long time. When they finally got around to bombing Ploesti they took 30-50% losses.(can't quite remember.)
  23. I also pre-ordered on the first day and have not received SC in Oakland, California. I don't have a lot of faith in the Oakland usps and it has not been seven days yet, still kinda peeved though. Gorski
  24. I have noticed once or twice that an AF had a higher readiness than I expected. I didn't identify a cause, but maybe your observation is the reason. Gorski
