The 40.xx drivers will allow this through the standard Windows control panel, but of course they have the FSAA issues. For now, in my opinion, it's better to stick with 30.xx with aTuner.

Look on www.guru3d.com for an application called aTuner. This allows you to turn on anisotropic filtering with the 30.xx series drivers.Originally posted by bodman:Is there a version of Nvidia detonator Drivers that provides ansiotropic filtering in direct3d and anti-aliasing with out screwing up the 2d text. I use win xp pro. The 30.82 drivers work perfectly for me with anti-aliasing turned on but do not provide the ansiotropic filtering in direct3d. The 40.72 drivers that I have tried provide the ansiotropic filtering that I want, but cause the screwed up text when I turn on anti-aliasing. Any suggestions. I have all the latest mobo and direct x drivers etc

What, you personally? Now that's what I call a hobbyOriginally posted by MrSpkr:Are you sure it wasn't a Tesla Tower? Those things are DANGEROUS at range!
In all seriousness, maybe it was a demolition charge? I've taken out tanks from 30+ meters with demo charges before.

You know you can get HQ units to spot for your mortars? This way your mortar can target the gun even when it's out-of-sight. Just make sure a) your HQ unit has LOS to the gun and your mortar is in command radius of the HQ unit.Originally posted by cyberlettuce:i had a few 50mm mortars but every time i tried to move them to a spot where (a) they were in range and ( could see the target they got pinned as well or eliminated. but yes this sounds a likely course of action to try out thankyou... (i usually forget all about the poor mortar chaps.) tricky thing on the last senario was that there were three guns right in the corner all capable of giving crossfire to anything targeting one of the guns...nasty! damn i could really have used a nice stuka would have been very satisfying to see all three go up in one blast...
the damn guns are so hard to spot as well.

Three things:
</font>
- AI </font>
- AI </font>
- AI </font>
And better graphics of course. Honestly if I was writing a CM-like game write now, the potential of the up-coming crop of graphics cards would give me wood. They do anyway, and I'm not writing a CM-like game!
They also make graphics pretty much free from the CPU standpoint, and with the capabilities of current high-end processors (which will be very much low-end , ie. obsolete) in two years, I think there should be sufficient horsepower around to do something about one of the AI.
I know writing AI engines is terrificly difficult (I've done it, at a simple level), but more available horsepower allows for more sophisticated algorithms to be implemented, and this has to be very exciting for the future of CM-like games.

Don't know about the Germans, but try the Italian tank destroyer thingy (can't remember their code number). They're pretty red hot against T34's. Just watch out for those pesky Russian ATRs.

There's even more fun to be had when using captured units, as Found out when my Sturmovik wiped out my platoon of captured Panthers...
D'oh!!!

Yeah, I'll second pretty much everything Highlife said. Response time is quite important, even for desktop-based work. Some monitors in the Samsuns range have a good reputation for having fast response times (~25ms). There are other panels on the market with this sort of response time, so you should be aiming for that sort of performance.
My flat-panel is just great for Combat Mission. Much of the criticism flat-panels get from the gaming community comes from the first-person shooter brigade, to whom every frame-per-second is critical. For more sedate games like Combat Mission they're just fine.
The lack of any flicker and the higher contrast makes them easier on the eye too, when spending hours plotting out your shoot-'n-scoot moves ...

I think some versions of Windows are "intelligent" enough to change the target of the short-cut if you rename the executable.
Another example of Windows trying to be helpful and not quite getting the bigger picture.

Right, that may be it, though I thought I saw him firing at targets closer than that. Maybe not. Good job it was an ATR then really!

Morning,
In a PBEM I'm playing with a mate (he's Italian attacking my Rooskie home-boys), he's sneaking his anti-tank rifle up my left flank (for nefarious reasons, no doubt -- I've got my eye on you Steve ).
He crept it into a foxhole in a convenient patch of trees ... which was already occupied by one of my sharpshooters.
So far as we can tell they only exchanged the time of day, no lead or anything like that. Maybe cracked a beer and chatted about the weather, that sort of thing.
Erm, I know he's green and a bit shaken up and all, but why didn't my sharpie put some holes in the presumptuous Italian *!@$"@%* ???
Any ideas? This is with 1.00.

Is that Goo-dale (eeew!!!), or Good-Ale (woohoo!!!)???

For me the 41.03s were better than any of the old 40.xx, and I finally managed to get the control panel working without crashing.
The text problem was still present, albeit intermittently.
So I've rolled back to 30.82, and will await NVIDIAs next roll of the dice. Keep trying chaps, one day you'll accidentally get it right!

No, I don't think it does.
Get aTuner (from www.guru3d.com/atuner), which allows you to force AF and FSAA modes independent of the control panel.
Max range of 88 gun (historical references wanted)

Hey, I like this thread!
When do we get off-map direct AT fire modelled in CMBB???
