  1. Very much so!

Similar experience when I was in Arnhem. I was looking at a large metal panel with a map of the September battle and an elderly gentleman was so impressed I was interested in something so long past, I got a guided tour of the town, showing me where the action took place, bullet scars still on the walls in places, etc.

Such a shame that this living history will not be here to satisfy the curious for coming generations. :(

    Amazing luck.

  2. The museum at La Gleize is really good. I spent some time talking to the curator who was a boy during the Battle in 1944. What an amazing experience. He was so eager to share his experiences he came with me and showed me the distant fields where action took place and where he hid during the fighting.  Helps I could speak French. ;)

    Lucky!

  3. Ahh...SL/ASL.  Bought the original SL (purple box) right after seeing the ad for it in The General - see pic #1. No wargame up to that time looked like that.  And, of course I bought most ASL modules, Delux ASL modules, Annuals, 3rd Party stuff and still have it all.

But I will never play ASL again because - and let's all be honest here - do I really want to memorize all those rules when  a high fidelity PC game like CMx2 will either let me move or shoot something or it won't?  Yea, thought so.  I attached another screenshot w/ a "brief" (in the ASL world) summary of hedge effects from one of the starter kits.  With CMx2 I don't need to determine who has "Wall Advantage" or that weird LOS hedge line across hexes C2/C3, I just move my units and shoot stuff.  Oh sweet bliss.

  4. Well, simple... there is not a single tiger tank in the basic (allied) campaigns that come with the base game. And there have been no tigers in any of the scenarios that I downloaded. Seems like the designers that make scenarios that I like the look of, don't often use tigers... which is perfectly fine with me :)

User made scenarios are teaming wit them. It is odd that the MG stock scenarios don't feature a few Tiger IIs from the 506th Heavy Panzer Battalion.  Too "Hollywood" I guess.

  5. Two comments:

    - The book "Eisenhower's Lieutenants" has a very good Operation Dragoon chapter (and is a fine operational level history of the NW Europe campaign as a whole).

    - The 11th Panzer was a very good outfit ably commanded by von Wietersheim and gave a very good account of iteself - aided by favorable terrain - in a series of holding actions as it retreated up the Moselle valley.  Yes the US forces were overwhelming but the terrain served to channel the advance onto some key - and easily defended - main  roads.

  6. Not sure what you are referring to: Bulge or the Battle Pack?

For now, giving away information on the battle pack's content is up to the content creator, if he's willing to share.

    For Bulge:

    October 1944 - Jan 1945

Standalones can take place anywhere in the France/Belgium/Germany region during that time period. Most take place somewhere in the Ardennes.

German campaign covers the more important actions of Kampfgruppe Pieper (think Stavelot, Stoumont, and the areas around there).

American campaign covers the 4th Armored Division's drive north to relieve the Bastogne defenders, Dec 23-26. Core unit will be CCR.

    Sounds good to me!!

  7. I have all of the CMx2 products. I'm done - I would sell all at a loss just to get out from the crap.

I'm not going to pay for patches anymore that should be free.

I buy expensive wargames from Matrix. Never paid for any improvements to the game. They still patch WitP AE.

Why should I pay for yours.

Great game ruined by poor marketing and charging for piddly patches instead of an actual expansion pack.

Get it all in one package and sell it for one price - otherwise take me off the mailing list.

Oh please. No one is forcing you to pay for new content. You have 2.0 so enjoy 2.0. A matter of principle you claim? OK. Fine. Go sell your CMx stuff at a - say - $30 loss to maintain your principled purity in the face of a $10 upgrade. Quelle Horreur.
