1. I've designed a nice firing range for CM equipment, with over 1,600 meters range between both sides on a flat level field, with marks every 100 meters, to test out my theories of mechanization... I'll clean it up some more, and design a mobility course to help you put various tanks and equipment thru the paces... So you know how long it takes a tank to go 100m in rough, etc etc
2. Some valid points there, and I need to playtest my new doctrine of 2x to 4x Puma Armored Cars 4x Panzer IVs or Panthers 4x StuH42s 1x SS Pz Gren Platoon 1x Sharpshooter 1x Kubelwagen So far, i've been slaughtering all who come up against me. I will try my doctrine on a flat mostly treeless plain (think Russian Steppe), to see if the StuH42s work versus Halftrack and versus walking infantry.
3. I like to buy 4 of the 105mm howitzer armed StuH42s and use them as half-tracks for a mechanized reserve. The StuH42s are capable of resisting medium caliber rounds, and blowing away houses and infantry, and tanks at close range. It is VERY expensive to do this though, but the effect of 4 StuH42s cresting a hill and firing near simultaneously on an enemy position is VERY effective They also resist .50 cal rounds much better, allowing you to speed your mech infantry closer to the battle much quicker. In my most notable game, I really owned the computer player, who was playing as the French, with M-5 Stuarts... Also, plan infantry tactics around houses. Best form of protection, period, unless the house is torched or hit with multiple rounds from 75mm and up. (memories of only 3 squads of SS Pz Grenadiers holding off waves of french troops with StuH42 support) [ 10-08-2001: Message edited by: Ryan Crierie ] [ 10-08-2001: Message edited by: Ryan Crierie ]
4. Hmm, I'm running with Windows ME and 32 MB of video RAM plus 512 MB RAM.. will have to do more intensive testing... will get back to you soon (a day or so)
5. I've tried shutting down everything, but it doesn't work, including antivirus proggies. The really WEIRD thing is sometimes it plays perfectly, with nary a problem, and other times, it has this problem:
6. The game played normally on my Dell 8100 P IV with an ATI Radeon before, but today, an odd error popped up. Despite repeated installs/uninstalls, it hasn't been solved. When I begin the action phase of the game, if I click on the "fast forward" button, garbage appears such as "0:00-12:34" in the timer, and the turn never ends. The only solution to this problem is to play each turn in real time all the way.
7.
quote:
Im sure everyone would hate me for even thinking this, but a sci-fi setting would be cool for this system too. Almost every sci-fi strategy game Ive ever played has sucked. Really bad. The CM system has a depth of tacitcs that is absolutly unheard of in a sci-fi game. Which is too bad, because I really like sci-fi.

HAMMER'S SLAMMERS! Atomic Games was making a Slammers' game when they went under. I want my fix of cyan bolts from PowerGuns! On the whole naval combat issue, I'm convinced that BTS could easily move in and DOMINATE the whole genre, using a overhauled/scratchbuilt engine. It's just that, I feel that BTS needs to avoid being typed in as "the guys who made Combat Mission"....Having a laurel in their cap saying: "FIRST PLAYABLE NAVAL SIM IN 5 YEARS", would be nice.
8. I think that after CM 2: Barbarossa to Berlin, Big Time Software should take a moment to pause and look at where they want to go with their "60sec" realtime engine. Rather than doing another WW2 game, or even a modern version with M1A2s, BTS should take a gander at: http://www.combinedfleet.com in particular: http://www.combinedfleet.com/atully06.htm Shell Game at Surigao: The entangled fates of battleships FUSO and YAMASHIRO Imagine a 3D realtime/60sec WW2 Naval Combat game patterned around BTS' engine. Now THAT would be ultra-cool. Imagine giving orders for the damage control department during that 60 sec pause, and then watching little men climb out of the superstructure of a burning Nagato BB and use hoses to try and put out the deck fires as the big guns fire, lighting up the night with strobing flashes, as the funeral pyres of sinking battlewagons flicker on the horizon, lit intermittently with the shifting light from starshells. <Proceeds to Drool Uncontrollably> Your Opinion?
