  1. Or could it be "the Pax. The G-23 Paxilon Hydrochlorate that we added to the air processors. It was supposed to calm the population and weed out aggression."
  2. Just build the frame out of explosive material with a few bits of shrapnel thrown in.
  3. From the New York Times (behind paywall) https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/30/world/europe/ukraine-bakhmut-russia.html
  4. The latest sea-borne attack in Crimea reminded me of the attack on the airfield months ago and has me wondering why we have not seen any of those awesome satellite images that we had back then. Not just concerning this attack, but the drone attack on the railyard a few days ago along with others.
  5. Before seeing the video, I envisioned the SU flying alongside of the drone then sliding in front and releasing fuel. The actual approach is much more dangerous as the pilot loses sight of the drone in the final moments. Considering the closing speed this is far too risky, to my mind it would be far safer to approach from below where the pilot could keep the drone in view for the entire encounter.
  6. 30 years in IT, 20 of it in web development, information architecture, design & security. Honestly could not take it anymore because it seems that everyone now knows how to design websites because they use a lot of sites and know what they like. Of course what they typically like is not the best fit for the content, mission or brand.
  7. I am not sure where you got the impression that I thought the Wehrmacht were boy scouts. Definitely not my intent.
  8. I have no issue coming to the aid of friends, personal or geo-political. I however dread giving certain elements any opportunity to claim that Europe remains broken and cannot function without U.S. involvement.
  9. I completely agree, it is less the dollar amount or percentage and more about the capability.
  10. I have said it before, and I will say it again This is the ONE thing I agreed on with our former President. Our NATO partners needed to contribute more to their own defense and live up to the NATO agreements. Relying on the US is no defense plan, sure we would live up to our agreement, but there must be some kind of local contribution to hold the line, or at least slow the advance until everyone was up to speed. What I DID NOT agree with was his threat to leave NATO unless everyone snapped to attention and caved into his tantrum.
  11. https://www.firstpost.com/world/german-defence-minister-says-his-country-cannot-protect-itself-in-war-12232132.html This is concerning
  12. It has been a while since we have seen that many Deere tractors heading towards customers. I live just a few miles from their HQ and my wife along with several other family/friends are employed by Deere. For the last few years their staging yards have been packed with "almost" complete equipment, ready to ship except for the key micro-chips needed to run the darn things. Imagine if something as benign as tractors are delayed by a chip shortage, what the impact is on high tech military equipment with more specialized chips. Then add sanctions to the mix and you start to get an idea of some of the problems RU is facing.
  13. Now, don't get me wrong, Biden's message sends a strong message, but not a new message. Everyone knew that the US fully supports the people of Ukraine. 11 European heads of state visited in the first 6 months of the war and to my mind these early signs of support when Kyiv was under regular attack meant more simply because there was more doubt at that time. I am not taking anything away from this trip, but from a political and physical standpoint it was a low risk/high gain bit of theater. I am glad he went and agree that it may put a damper on celebrations in Russia, but it does not change the existing equation.
  14. The last major railroad deregulation was the Stagger Act in 1980 and was passed by a democratic senate, democratic house and signed by a democratic president. Following that there have been minor administrative regulatory adjustments handled at the bureau level rather than the legislative level. This is purely from a legislative angle, various adminsitrations can affect the effectiveness of regulations though funding for the appropriate department in order to increase or decrease the enforcement.
  15. I place more of the blame on the monied lobbyists who represent the companies/unions/special interests who own the legislators. Nothing happens without their input up to and including the crafting of bills. They have far more influence than any voting block. Most of the general public has no idea what any single piece of legislation contains, unless some PR group representing even more money tells them what is in the bill and how they should feel about it.
  16. I completely agree that there is a huge difference. I was merely supporting the comment on how the depression affected rural communities in the US 100 years ago. I doubt it would be the same now.
  17. To me an aviation offensive of this nature seems like an admission that their artillery and PGM/cruise missile offensive has failed and that stocks are running low. You don't send a manned aircraft when tubes/rockets/missiles are effective and available.
  18. My wife's grandmother told us the same. They would never have known about the depression as farmers in central IL if not for newspapers. They rarely had money and were so accustomed to helping their neighbors that as a community their lives did not really change much.
  19. Multiple gunshot wounds to the head is the best indicator of suicide. Open and shut case, no need for an autopsy let alone an investigation.
  20. Friday I travel to Orlando for our annual trade show. I am dreading the catchup I will have to slog through a week later! It will be worth it but long. Unless, and this is just a suggestion. Could any of you arrange to have this whole mess cleared up by early Friday morning? That would be great! Thanks in advance.
  21. Yep, Steve grabbed the goodies for himself. I think the only way to make this right is a game update for Kevin. Posted publicly of course
  22. 25 years ago, when we moved into our home, I told my wife we should plant strawberries because she absolutely loves them. She told me not to bother because it will be 3 years before we get any good fruit. How many strawberries would we have harvested in the last 22 years? Putting things off because it takes time, just does not make sense sometimes.
  23. Or, and this scares me, are they planning on doing something incredibly stupid and believe that action will cross a line that could result in the west providing Ukraine with weapons that could actually reach Moscow?
