  1. Wow, lot of bay area peoples. We should get together and buy each other beers or orange smoothies or something. SF CA USA (although I wish someone would resurect Emperor Norton and we could become an independant city state)
  2. About effective armor slope in hulldown / reverse slope I can't quote BTS saying so but I think I remember reading it long ago and it really seems to get me in my games. The velocity and hence trajectory of shell is taken into account when calculating angle of hit. So, those low-velocity (relativly) Shermans get "plunging fire" on my shiny Hetzers and JgIV's (greatly) reducing their effective armor slope. Nailing them when they are all snug and HD on a reverse slope. Makes me very sad.

  4. I love the CW. I don't play DYO QB much so, I don't really know/care if they are good vs the KT/SMG duo. But, historically they have really neat OOB's. The CW has few, comparativly to the Amis and Germs, squads/vehicles/weapons. So, you quickly become expert with those. At least I hope I am. Too many players/posters concentrate on firepower or this gun bigger/this armor thicker to the detriment of tactics and what his total combined force is capable of. PIATs seem to never hit but at least they can try from the 2nd floor without getting 3rd degree burns. IMHO the Wasp is flamethrowers done right. 75m range, that's what we want. Just deal with the anti-armour threat before you bring them out to play. BTW Brit 2" mortars can run, and don't slow down plts really. But hookin them up with a 'bolt or dbl 'bolt leader with good LOS and they really can take out the ATG and MG. Or smoke some crummy ubertank while you maneuver around it. And, I think it was this thread, maybe not, but someone said smoke rounds in a vehicle were a waste. Man, that guy needs to expand his tactics a bit. There is one way to survive, 'don't be seen' cause something can always beat your armor. Best way 'not to be seen', blind your enemy. I leave the rest up to the reader.
  5. I like First Person view, er, realistic. I usually watch the 'movie' 4-5 times from different units perspectives, often 'locked' to moving vehicles. I frequently move the camera to the ground zero of my arty barrages with camera shake, I like to 'feel' the pain my shells are inflicting. If there is a lot of action in a small area I'll pull back to '3' to watch that. Then I usually watch the whole thing at 8 or 9 with 'bases' turned on to spot any new or intermitantly visible targets. I use zoom ('[' and ']') and 'Dip' (shift A shift Z) alot During order 'phase' I use whatever. I also cruize around at 1 or 2 all over the terrain to spot LOS and blindspots.

  7. Sometimes that smoke works great. Recent PBEM had to cross river over two loooong bridges. I layed done lots of arty smoke but a nasty 'Vet' Hetzer still had LOS. While my 'reg' 105 was charging full speed across a RR bridge it rotated and put a nice smoke round right in front of that Hetzer. It was beautifull. But, I'm sure it works against you sometimes as others have stated.
  8. Yeah, that's why I'm monogamous. CMBO/BB is my one and only love. Damn, that is sad. Anyone for a PBEM?
  9. the short 75/panther 76 rules are great to go by for BYO. http://www.rugged-defense.nl/cm/Fionn3.htm Not much of a suprise but interesting is were one person builds both forces and his opponent gets to decide which side he plays. I would love to see more battles/scenarios were one side is overmatched and is gonna 'loose'. But, if they can 'loose' by taking out a large number of opposing units or causing them to spend more than X turns he or she wins.
  10. "I don't think I'll ever forget how much we laughed that night, as the artillery rained down on the old hand/newbie. He just said "F***, that artillery's pretty amazing. Is it always like this?" We assured him it was. He wanted to play on... " Damn your evil, damn that's funny.
