  1. Not so much wasps as much as flamethrowers.

I have found it take around 6 shots from a flamthrower to light up a tile. So if you grab maybe 20 of them you will be able to light up around 25 tiles or so. smile.gif

How funny would that be if you light up all the trees and use barracades to keep them from going around the fires. Then all you get is a jeep or Kubelwagon and run around behind the fires and baracades that have mine fields near them. By them time your attacker figures it out you will win by default since his armor will have nowhere to go and only a few troops will have been able to get through.

It could be a good laugh at least smile.gif

  2. I am mixed on veteran status. Guns I find they are worth it as the crews usually dont flee like little school girls at the first sign of arty or a fight.

The only time I have ever used veteran troops was in a IP game. Veteran US Rifle 44 platoons. 3 of them in a 1000 point ME. They ran at the first sign of fighting. They were in a tree line overlooking the approaches to the flag and cameunder fire from VGs that were in the open than they just fled. At least 1 squad did not even take a casualty. So now I dont bother.

Tanks I am not sure either. If I have the points I may pick up a a veteran tank. If you dont get hit on a lucky first shot you have the upper hand with the higher ROF.

This game is about skill but also a little luck smile.gif

  3. The Wasp is a very effective units, mostll because of its range and speed and ammo load. It is least vulnerable to German MGs and hard to hit with Schrecks. It is a so effective unit that it is banned from many ladder games. "

Wasps are easy pickings for German Flak guns smile.gif

Anywho a tactic I am sure will be labeled gamey is if you are on defense. Light up all the tree lines that your enemy will be approaching from. This will force them in the open and in theory if used with barracades and mine field you could really force your enemy to some pretty nasty killing zones smile.gif

**** I just thought this up on the spot. Im off to try it out smile.gif

  4. Where's here? I don't remember the last road I saw that was 2.5 or 5 meters above the surrounding ground However, elevating rail lines does seem correct"

Well it is the closest thing you can do with the engine. If they allowed for shorter elevations then it would look more realistic. Besides this game is about abstraction smile.gif I have never seen a road in the country or not in a city enviornment that is not raised a bit above the surrounding terrain. This is for ovcious reason like runoff.

  5. the LRDG, the SAS, the Sudanese Defense Force, the Czechs, the Poles, the felons that comprised a substantial part of Rgt. 361. Even, for Christ's sake, the bloody Bren tripods! "

Well then I want the British Free Corps.

Just think of the possibilities as an Axis commander. You can use them to invade the bars, brothals, and jails of your enemies town. :D

  6. Plain Roads... Use tree lined roads in abundance. They should be the norm and not the exception. Not only do trees make the roads look more realistic, they also provide the cover that road side ditches would provide."

Why not elevate the roads? I have found that is you make the roads 1 elevation higher than the surrounding landscape it looks quite nice and makes it look like a ditch.

If you want a highway. Make two roads 1 tile away from each other in paralell and elevate the two roads 1 elevation higher. Then in between the two roads make the elevation the same as the sourrounding area. It will make a ditch inbetween the two roads.

  7. Hey Striker when you bring in the Fighter/Bombers in the full game better make sure you know what you are doing. I dont want you coming apart at the seams like you did over Macho Grande! smile.gif

Welcome to the game. It is the best game I have ever bought. So good in fact I have bought 1 game in the last 14 months since I owned this work of art smile.gif

  8. I have thought of a Geforce2 MX, for about $90 or so....is there a better card, or a card which seems to be trouble-free?"

In a couple of months you shouldbe able to grab a Geforce 2 ti card(like the current geforce 2 Pro card) or a Geforce 3 ti 200(in between geforce 2 pro and geforce 3)

for under 200. I already see the geforce 2 ti cards going for about 105 bucks on www.pricewatch.com I am lookin at the geforce 3 ti 200 smile.gif when it gets to about 130 bucks.

  9. BTW : The OOB was set to unrestricted....i will not agree on that in the future "

Well this can be fun but remember in the future that if given the opportunity people will use the uber weapons. Just expect it.

I ran into a nasty QB last winter where we did not agree to an Arty setting. I learned the hard way as I watched round after round of naval arty land on the town I was to defend. The whole town crumbled and so did my troops.

From then on I usually use Panther 76 rules.

  10. Yes

I also like fictional games. I have a fictional battle set in 1957 on a moon of Europa.

About a 25,000 point armor battle. Terrain is interesting as there are no trees or anything. Just snow and ice.

Lots of KTs, Panthers, Tigers, JagdTigers vs Pershings, Super Pershings, M38 TDs. Each side has good guns and about a battalion of troops.

  11. QB would be anything but.

CMs engine would have to be greatly expanded to allow for roughly 5 years and 9 months of fighting smile.gif

Just some raw estimates on the amount of turns hehe.

3016800 turns give or take a few, provided everything went along with history. But who knows maybe we would get some people who load up on gamey weapon systems and prolong the war smile.gif

Cant even imagine the size of the map on this one :D

  12. You bring up something I have been toying with. Mechanised battles. For the last month I have been testing various ways to move men around in HTs or on tanks. Surprisingly Ihave found the Allies fair much better than the Germans in this regard.

Allied infantry tanks are turreted and are damned fast. The HTs are killer on enemy infantry.

But I found it to be rather difficult to really this tactic to its fullest. Maybe it is because the maps are not large enough. But most of the time by the time I get the guys over there, manuever through the enemy and let the guys off they could have walked there.

  13. Welcome to the community. I can assure you this may be the last game you buy for some time. At least until CMBB comes out this winter? smile.gif I have purchased 1 game in 14 months since I have owned this game.

Get into the mods, they make the game evenmore fun.

Anywho they have operations. You play a scenario in the operation for like 20 turns then move onto the next battle. And any units left will move with you.

I hope this is what you are asking about.

    Gen

  14. needed. I created a fun scenario that well is nothing of this world. In my few time playing it while revising lets just say there were plenty of burning Panthers, King Tigers and even a dead JagdTiger. And that was against the A.I. smile.gif

It is a fun scenario that has nothing historical about it. But one of my first scenarios.

If you enjoy large armored battles this could be something worth trying for fun.

Let me know in this thread and I can send it to you.
