"Panzer Blitz/Leader had a rule where a M or H indirect type weapon could go to 3X attack factor for one attack then be basically eliminated."
Have to look that one up if I still have my copies, as I don't remember that at all. That was the first game discovered in my 20's that started my wargaming obsession.

Also, unless the deisigner is a sadist, a large part of the enemy OOB will be that large arty. So, if you know how to deal with as ASL said, then once it's gone, then there should not be much else defending. So, one can make up the lost 20 minutes with a very rapid 40 minute advance against weak ground force opposition. (Assumes a non-sadistic designer as I said.)
The real irritation is that one is doing very little and not having fun for that first 20 minutes of bombardment. So, it is the negative effect on gameplay fun that is the real problem imo.

Apocal: Yes, CM1 had that capability as well as having battalion, regimental and divisional level reserves that would be automatically commited as reinforcements (to either side) if losses crossed particular thresholds.

Very nice screenshots. I find it hard to manipulate my nVidia settings to get that sort of realistic look. (OT: Actually, looking at your pics I can see why some would like to have a Vietnam mod. It looks a bit like jungle.)

That's makes sense. But, maybe the belts were not quite as white as they'd really stand out when you're trying to hide. (Or were they? Am curious.)
-
Interesting... You wouldn't have thought they'd be "protected memorial sites" just yet.
Hey, maybe they're saved cos they could be used again as modern AAA towers? I was thinking about the London Olympics where discomforted tenants of high rises found AAA batteries installed on their roofs.

Looks good. (Question: Are bullets and their belt that shiny and white?)

I saw a documentary about one being converted to apartments...

IIRC one cannot drive through walls in CMSF.

The 88mm in the photo probably had the good fortune to be shooting on a larger map than a typical CM2 map - ie shooting at ranges of 2Km+.
-
Looking forward to trying this. Thanks.

Loos fascinating. Thanks.

Not sure if that addresses what Zenomorph was saying. I got the impression that he simply switched sides so all units were the same. He had his AT gun hiding until it made its first shot. What I think he's asking is why do the AI tanks all immediately see his AT gun once it fires (and shoot back accurately), when as human controlled they could not see anything.
I figured the issue would be what advantages the AI has in order to make the game playable/enjoyable/challenging vs the AI.

I always thought that 10%+ casualties was considered high enuff to make em combat ineffective. But, perhaps that's for modern warfare, since it appears some of those WW2 companies suffered 30+%(!).

I would check that you have the correct mod selected. It sounds like you have the variant that doesn't have the cal.

I like the crispness and immediacy of the sound, like it's right next to me. made me jump first time I heard shots.

Ok thanks...
My dedication to downloading everything asap has caught me out here.
Options?
So, I can delete all my files for WaffenSSCamo and 12th SS, and simply download the latest versions and I will be up to date?
Or do I need to go thru all the bmps to see which look better/newer?
-
That's a great idea. Thanks...

Yes, indeed. (And we have all the SS camo outfit mods thanks to BJ.)
-
Now if you could mount a monitor and keyboard to rest in front of the Toto...

+1 to a "Follow Command" like in CM1. That was indeed useful (Ambush as well).

Wish we had some WW2 tankers here to tell us troof.

Hey BJ, may need to give us some instruction as to which are the final updated versions. I have been collecting ALL of them and renumbering as needed to prevent overwriting. I didn't realize they were supposed to replace earlier camo mods.
What are the improvements that you made to the ealier versions? I find it hard to tell, and it's a major PITA to load the game, look at the mod, unload the game, change the mod, load the game, and look at the new version (assuming you can remember what the previous one looked like at this point) and on and on...

I would recommend fading it a bit to show wear and tear. Most uniform mods look like they just came from the supply store (or dry cleaners).
BTW: I have so many dozens of SS uniform and helmet mods now. It is appropriate to just put em in the same folder (renumbering as needed) or are some camo designs unique to certain divisions... eg 12th SS?

Interesting material poorfish. Althought it's the allied air superiority that probably was more the determinant for victory than simply the quantity of arty and its ammo.
