From WSJ: "Two years after Russia invaded, Ukrainian forces are outgunned. Russia has a 6-to-1 ammunition advantage along the front lines. If this persists, Vladimir Putin’s ambitions will become a reality.

The imbalance in weapons supplies is a major failure of Ukraine’s allies in the West. North Korea delivered as much artillery ammunition to Russia in one month as the European Union has been able to deliver to Ukraine in one year. Russia produces three million shells a year, while the U.S. and Europe combined are able to produce only 1.2 million for Kyiv. Despite the vast economic might of the democratic world, we are being outproduced by an arsenal of autocracy in Russia, Iran and North Korea.

If Western allies don’t immediately ramp up the supply of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, the future will be bleak. If Mr. Putin isn’t stopped in Ukraine, it will mean decades of instability and conflict in Europe. We need to wake up to that danger and put our economies on a war footing."

But it does feel like there's a difference between sending a jeep forward to poke at the enemy perimeter and sending a jeep speeding directly through a town that is suspected of being occupied.

It raises the question of what use are recon vehicles in a typical CM scenario.  One doesn't have to recon for miles to find the enemy.  Usually the recon unit is best dismounted and used on foot from turn 1.

In open terrain have found it useful to send recon vehicles FAST in a relatively tight circular patrol route that gets near to suspected enemy position to see if they draw fire in the hope that their speed and frequent change in direction will assist survivability.  Driving at any speed down a road in a straight line towards enemy positions is suicide.

that is before starting to move your forces...

??  One has to assign all "prep fire" in the setup turn.  The only choice (for offmap arty) is whether it is "immediate" or starts 5, 10 or 15 minutes later.  Prep fire from an onmap gun is always "immediate" (onmap arty fire cannot be delayed).

I cannot see how firing on possible approaches is gamey.  The only house rule that makes sense is "No firing on known enemy set-up locations on turn 1."  (How would one know where the enemy set-up locations are without first loading the game as the enemy player?)

There are no "Brits" in this campaign. You begin with the Canucks, and then go on to fight as the Jocks

Great Britain is composed of England, Scotland, and Wales. (This is different to the UK.)

Jocks (Scots) Welsh and N Irish are all Brits.  (People of Northern Ireland have the right to identify either as Irish or British, or both.)  However, I actually didn't realize I was playing with Canadians in Mission 1.  (They sound like Brits.)  I simply assume they have dual nationality and therefore are also Brits.

When you've lived in the UK long enuff, you'll figure all this out lol.  :)

  5. Been playing these games so long I sometimes get confused between CM1 and CM2 but IIRC in CM1, surrendering units lose their weapons.  I cannot recall if they would accumulate weapons if used to provide medical aid.

In CM2 I vaguely recall rescuing friendlies who had surrendered and they got their weapons back (but perhaps not all their ammo).  Cannot recall if they started broken, or if they recovered back to normal.  But, they were able to function.

  6. Are we talking WEGO or RL play?  Or both?

I still don't understand why no preplanned in ME's.

Also, very hard to have the discipline to do "3. When a Player checks LOS at any given Waypoint, then he must keep that Waypoint..."  That would require a much slower pace of play and very long scenarios.

And...  why "Tracers off"?  That is how one sees enemies in RL and how your own troops see where the shells are landing in RL.

Manually ordered smoke dischargers are needed to provide cover.  I thought that was also a RL tactic.

Not sure about "5. Turn Off Armor Detailed Hits."  Would one not know where one is getting hit?

I like the idea of Green troops.  That would make troops act in a normal "less heroic" manner.

  7. Units that surrender can "unsurrender" if friendly (to them) units come nearby.  That way you can rescue your own surrendered units in the same way that the enemy can theirs.

It is wise to leave some rear area units with enemy units that are surrendering - until the system automatically removes them from the map.

  8. In that case it is even more impressive that you sprecken Anglish.

Sa chás sin: Caithfidh sé a bheith deacair Béarla a fhoghlaim má tá Gàidhlig agat. Meas bro... Agus sea, ba cheart go mbeadh modh cainte Gaeilge againn do na cluichí BF ó tharla go bhfuil/bhí aonaid Ghaeilge ann.

strongly disagree with this one. You can't implement realistic tactics without area fire.

Totally agree with Centurian.  (One cannot see a dam thing especially WW2 night actions.)  It is a very normal RL tactic to hose down suspected enemy positions to allow friendlies to advance.

Am also unsure about the "no preplnned fire in Meeting Engagements".  If you know what your enemy is heading for why not bombard?  Also if you know what you are heading for, why not bombard?

As mentioned earlier, most designers now solve much of this preplanned issue by having arty arrive as a reinforcement

Maybe my Irony was too subtle and oblique...

I did take it literally.  (Subtlety tends to get lost with internet chat. esp with so many here having English as a 2nd language.)    (Your English is quite good, tho'.)
