It was #8000 back a few months, then we had #10000 roll around (Wherefore art thou Superhero?) so we've picked up 794 new members since Sept 17.Originally posted by Michael Dorosh:Well, click on the "welcome newest member" link and check the guy's membership number. We celebrated the 8000th (or was it 9000th) when Gyrene made a big deal about it, and that was before the release of CMBB. Maybe 1000 or so?
Don't forget a good percentage of our membership was Maximus in his various guises! I think many regulars here have more than one account - Major Tom/Kirby et al. Some people post from work, for example, and couldn't remember their log in, etc., so just created a new one.
794 members in 43 days...At this pace we'll get over 6700 new members in one year.
Can you imagine member #17000?
Hell, by then even Vader's won't be a noob anymore

Maybe they meant "Geico"...They want to get in touch with their insurance company.Originally posted by Michael emrys:When I was playing Citadel Schwerepunkt I kept hearing the Red gun crews call out, "I'm a gecko!" which I thought rather odd, but it takes all kinds, I suppose.

Hey Jussi, how do people call cats in Finland? You know what I mean: Like in the US we call cats over by calling "kittykittykittykitty"
I'm curious.
By the way, has anyone else notice that people sneeze in their native languages? And when you get hurt you express your pain in different languages too.
An "ouch" means little beyond English speaking countries.

Manx, thanks for the reply.
I have no intentions of running a monster site, but I have a very tentative lead on maybe some bandwidth & space I can get from a friend and I don't want to spring any surprises on him, but if it does go through it might work as a mirror for the more popular sites.
My own very modest webspace has felt the hit of a 2 day feeding frenzy and I know it can get pretty crazy.

From the few here that have experience running mod sites, I'd like to hear how much bandwidth is the working minimum to keep a busy site alive.
Any peak traffic at a mod's release and average bandwidth-hits info would be appreciated

Looking forward to the mod, it was ver useful.
You might want to break it down to blocks of bmp numbers

What about sites like fileplanet.com?
They host gigantic FPS mods, can't we use something like that?

Racoons are not marsupials like possums, and they are some smart & crafty little bastards, much smarter than a cat or a dog.Originally posted by Epée:They are cute little buggers!
Are they like possums (the australian variety)?
They are renowned for breaking into cabins and getting into everything, including glass jars (Note the human like hands)
They are a lot of fun to watch but they can be quite destructive and sometimes dangerous to household pets as they can put up a fierce fight and often carry rabies.
Some people do keep them as pets

A paintball gun would be a humane/fun way of getting rid of them.
They'd learn to avoid your yard.

Troops should be able to shoot from trucks & HT's, even if not very effectively.Originally posted by Fishu:Make it like halftracks and trucks.. using same type of action to get people in the bunker, which would be acting like vehicle, but people would be able to shoot from inside it.
I read on the forum a while back that BFC removed that ability because they didn't want hordes of Hillbilly assault trucks roaming the battlefield.

If BFC released a patch for CMBB with Brits, US & French troops they'd have a North Africa game ready out of the box.
Just use the CMBB code, add in every vehicle & human unit type from 1935 to 1954, add a few extra terrain types, allow the building of custom squads & platoons and release it as Combat Mission: Universal Simulator and I'd never leave the house again.

Russian tracers in the 50's to the 70's were green, maybe they were the same in WWII?
Is it too much to ask BFC to model gyroscopic precession on tracers for CM2? - Russian tracers spiral counter-clockwise while western tracers do so clockwise, I got to witness this while flying over Mogadishu.

My money is on that gamey Abbott fella...Originally posted by Stoffel:guys,
Both of you,Abbot and Jean Lafitte.
You should do this battle in TCP or PBEM together and write a nice AAR for all of us.
Could be interesting reading material

I think there's a bug on how the game handles troops in rubble.
In my PBEM game of the Tractor Works scenario with Abbott my troops located in rubble can't see out of it regardless of being often no more than 3m from the edge, I get the red & black LOS line, while his troops can see and target mine, despite of his being on the open factory floor.
There has to be something wrong, unless rubble has been rewritten since CMBO
