  1. Jason - absolutely agree with you that HT's are overpriced. The free market has spoken here and it seems like the CM players think (by their actions) that these units do not are not as effective as their cost. Wish they were cheaper - would love to use them more. John - as with you, while I have seen a tendency toward more armor using unrestricted selection, I have not seen a move toward unbalanced forces. CM remains a combined arms game. Infantry is still the key to winning the battle. But it is not much fun when you run out of armor before your opponent does, and watch your veteran company get pummeled by stand off tank shelling. So I purchase tanks.
  2. Good point, Jeff. I guess that players do not want to risk losing armor superiority by investing a lot of points in half-tracks. I often purchase American half-tracks, and while they can be great units, they seem almost worthless if your opponent has a viable anti-tank force still intact.
  3. Now that BTS has granted the much requested "unrestricted" option on quick battles, I wonder what the impact has been. In PBEM, are your opponents changing their unit selections from what you used to see in Combined Arms QB's? Myself, I have started three of these games recently. The impact seems to be more spending on armor, especially for the Axis. In day / dawn battles, moderate forest, I am seeing armor points of from 25% - 35% of the total force. Also, despite complaints of "uber-halftracks" I have never had a PBEM opponent purchase an allied or axis track. Your experiences? ------------------ "Act after having made assessments. 4. What is the count? PC by a landslide? I'm on PC, but who da' heck cares? The CM disk is what makes the world goes round.
  5. Good Trick, Joe Private. After cresting the hill at the end of the 60 second turn before the tank reverses, you may elect to pause at beginning of the next turn if there are no immediate threats. Stay up long enough to do some damage. If there are threats, just let your tank execute the plotted reverse order and you will not have any command delay. ------------------ "Act after having made assessments. 6. I've already spilled my age, but for those who are interested, here are the updated stats: Total Respondents 53 Total Years 1841 Average 34.7 Youngest - Capt Canuck (14) Oldest (that can remember) - Knaust (61) ------------------ "Act after having made assessments. 7. Oooops. Old age caused me to miss some data - like all the answers on the 2nd page. The real updated totals now are - Number of respondents - 32 Total Years - 1064 Average Age - 33.25
  8. At fourty-three, I am in this thread above average. My family would agree. Hey, most of you guys hardly even studied WWII in school. My son's textbook had like three pages. I count 24 respondents, total years of 757, average of 31.54. ------------------ "Act after having made assessments. 9. Fireflys are not a problem. You usually find them in a field around dusk. The Uber-weapon against them is a pair of hands (75mm or greater) and a glass jar (at least 130mm thick, sloped at 30%). Try this and the Fireflies will not be a worry again. ------------------ "Act after having made assessments. 10. How about "Counter-Attack"? Say the defending side can delay for some of their units entry while paying reduced cost for the reinforcing units. For example, units arriving halfway through the QB may only cost 50% or 75% of normal cost. Both sides are time sensitive and the game momentum can turn! ------------------ "Act after having made assessments. 11. Matters who I am fighting. Against the Amis, the ordinary Jpz IV has plenty of punch and great frontal armor. Against the Brits, you need a bigger gun to take out Churchills. The IV-70 does this nicely and is cheaper than the Jagdpanther. When I am cheap, Hetzers are a deal but have limitations. ------------------ "Act after having made assessments. 12. Best Tank - for the money I don't know how to beat the Churchill VII and VIII. Ideally played in Panther 76 rules, these bests shrug off most hits and keep on shooting. The 95mm in the VIII will tear apart infantry and has amazing punch against armor - and is much tougher than the more expensive M4-105. Had a VIII take out a Jagdpanther the other day in PBEM. That had to hurt! ------------------ "Act after having made assessments. The one who first knows the measures of far and near wins - this the rule of armed struggle." Sun Tzu - The Art of War
  13. I've seen this too. I thought that it may relate to having more tungsten ammo available at later dates, which makes the allied tanks more valuable. Don't think I have seen the same thing with the German tanks.
